The contact owns a 2013 Toyota Prius V. The contact stated that while pulling out of a parking space at approximately 15 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal felt spongy, but the vehicle responded as intended. The brake, the ABS, the traction control warning lights, and an unknown warning light were illuminated. The contact scanned the vehicle with a code reader and retrieved diagno
... stic trouble codes for the brake booster and brake accumulator systems failure. The contact related the failure to the Toyota Customer Satisfaction Program: 20TE07 (Certain 2012 - 2014 Model Year Prius V Coverage for Brake Booster and Brake Booster Pump Assemblies). The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was no longer covered because the 10-year limit was exceeded. The contact was referred to the dealer, who provided an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.Read more

I am filing a complaint against our 2026 Toyota Camry XLE AWD, this complaint probably impacts all new cars. I have no issues with the mechanics or the car, its mileage, etc. However, the so-called safety features, what you call ADAS, are nothing more than a driver distraction. The reason for the complaint is that there is no means by which these distractions can be permanently disabled. I unders
... tand that there was a law suit a number of years ago whose outcome resulted in the distractions being permanently on. However, this is wrong! Adding a disable feature to the system is trivial; and to avoid future lawsuits, only allowing the dealership to activate this feature once the car owner signs a form that prevents them from filing suits is easily accomplished. I urge you to change the rules so these distraction features can be disabled. They are certainly going to cause accidents because the driver pays attention to the car and not that which is happening outside the car.Read more

On Tuesday, April 14, 2026 I was looking for something in my rear seat and noticed the seat was damp. I couldn't figure out the cause so I goggled it and found out that Toyota had a limited service campaign called LSC21TD03 on my 2017 Tacoma because of the third brake light having a gasket issue causing water to enter the vehicle. I called a local Toyota dealer and was told that the fix for my v
... ehicle had expired in 2025. This water intrusion from the high third brake light can cause mold, interior damage, or electrical issues. This is an issue that Toyota previously acknowledged but has now stopped covering it. I called Toyota Corporate and was again told yes the repair fix was expired. I asked why wasn't I notified and was told that Toyota sent out letters. I told the representative that I never received a letter and was told the mailing was done by an outside company. I asked what could Toyota do to help me and was told to go back to the dealer and maybe they "would give me a discount or reduced price on the fix". The dealer offered nothing. Upon further research I found that several Toyota Tacoma owners state they were not aware of the service campaign and ended up changing the light themselves or paying out of pocket to have it repaired. I feel that this is an issue that Toyota is aware of and they should take care of it. This should have been a recall issue rather than just a service campaign that the public was not fully aware of. I still don't know the extent of damage to my vehicle because the dealer gave me a quote of $690 to repair. I questioned why so much to change a light and gasket and was told they have to take the panels down and clean the vehicle to make sure no mold was there. The quote was given without even examining the vehicle. I'm asking you to please look into this situation.Read more

There is a recall for this vehicle for a loose inverter bolt. NHTSA recall No. 25V-869. The inverter bolt can become loose leading to a loss of drive power or fire while vehicle is on which can cause an accident, injury, or loss of life/property if the above mentioned occur while operating the vehicle. Information given by Toyota Brand Engagement Center has stated the remedy was supposed to have
... been available in February 2026. When follow up calls were made after February passed with no recall update, Toyota stated that the remedy should be available by the end of the 1st quarter. When the first quarter passed with still no update regarding the recall, another follow up call was made to Toyota with no updates available and no idea when an update could occur or when a remedy could possibly become available. They have failed to provide an update to the recall and when its potential remedy will be available in a timely manner allowing the continued use of these vehicles, knowing the potential for sudden loss of drive power could lead to accidents with the potential for catastrophic outcomes such as loss of life. This delay in remedy seems unacceptable and reckless at minimum.Read more

The radio/audio system has twice stopped working completely during travel--without warning--which is a safety issue since no emergency alerts can be received. The outage cannot be fixed by turning off the radio or any known practical intervention while the vehicle is moving. Audio reading of incoming text messages also fails. AM/FM/SiriusXM are all affected. Audio resumes at the next vehicle start
... -up. The vehicle is available for inspection. Safety is compromised since emergency alerts may be missed during these complete audio outages. Due to the randomness of the audio outages, independent confirmation has not been practical to date. No inspection by manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others has been requested or yet occurred. Other than the abrupt audio cut-off, no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure have been observed. Thank you.Read more

Incident date: Mar 16, 2026
I am reporting a premature transmission failure on a 2022 Toyota Highlander LE at approximately 85,000 miles. The vehicle began exhibiting a whining noise. When brought into the Toyota Dealership, I was notified that it needs a full transmission replacement. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Toyota dealership, which determined that the transmission has failed and requires full replacemen
... t at an estimated cost of approximately $9,400. There were no warning lamps or messages of the problem prior to the failure. A transmission failing at this mileage creates a significant safety risk, especially when merging into traffic, accelerating from a stop, or maintaining highway speeds. This vehicle has been regularly maintained, with service performed through authorized Toyota dealerships. Despite this, Toyota has declined to provide assistance for the repair. This has caused a massive financial stress and strain. There is a documented pattern of similar transmission failures involving Toyota Highlander vehicles equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission (UA80 platform) across multiple model years. This appears to be part of a broader pattern of premature transmission failures that may indicate a defect affecting vehicle safety. The consistency of complaints across multiple vehicles and model years suggests this is not an isolated incident. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue for potential safety defects and determine whether further action, including recall or manufacturer accountability, is warranted.Read more

I live in a city with many roundabouts for intersections. These do not require a full stop, rather a yield and go. I often encounter throttle lag when I roll into the roundabout and need to accelerate to fit a gap in traffic. This lag results in the inability of a continuous flow of traffic because my vehicle simply does not respond to the accelerator.

UA80 8 Speed transmission on 3.5V6 AWD transmission whine with transmission failure
Incident date: Apr 4, 2026
My transmission has started with a whining noise, Toyota knows about this issue with thousands of cases regarding the faulty transmission, yet only a few are being covered under a customer support bulletin ZJC. I am an owner of a 2021 Highlander XLE AWD (bought new). In October of 2024 around 34000 miles the transmission started to make a whining noise and seemed to be surging/bucking , hesitation and hunting for gears. Toyota determined it fit the criteria of a TSB to have the transmission replaced. The dealership had my car for two months and then eventually replaced the transmission with a remanufact
... ured unit. This “new” unit still has the issues of surging/bucking , hesitation and hunting for gears. I fear that this “new” transmission is in the process of failing again with less than 10k on it. Of course I will be out of warranty when it does and I’ll be on the hook for a $10000 repair. I’m appalled that Toyota has not done a true fix for this issue and has not even put an extended warranty on it either. I purchased this vehicle from Toyota on good faith that it would last and be reliable. 34k one transmission died and I’m sure this one will follow suite. Ultimately UA80 transmission is ticking time bomb and Toyota needs to be held accountable for this.Read more

The affected component appears to be the rear seat / seat track recall system. I took my Toyota vehicle to the dealership / repair center in approximately October 2025 for recall-related repair, and the vehicle was then kept there for months. During that time, I was deprived of the use of the vehicle while continuing to make lease payments. I repeatedly contacted the repair center for updates but
... was not provided a clear repair completion date. Toyota and the dealership later claimed that the recall had been repaired only after the stated 60-day buyback review period had expired, yet NHTSA’s VIN lookup still showed the same recall as unrepaired for my vehicle. No credible current documentation was provided showing the exact recall repair completion date or the work performed. Under these circumstances, I am not comfortable accepting return of the vehicle. My children ride in the rear seat, and because this recall involves the seat / seat track area, I cannot reasonably be expected to trust the vehicle without clear proof that the recall repair was properly completed. I have also experienced a serious accident in the past, which makes this issue even more concerning to me. At this point, I have lost confidence in Toyota’s handling of this matter. I am seeking repurchase of the vehicle and fair final resolution.Read more

See attached document for complaint. My husband and I purchased a Sienna, 7-passenger van, April 2025 and have received two safety recalls, the first being the lack of second-row seats being installed correctly presenting a safety problem, and later a possible problem with the backup camera. We purchased a vehicle of that size especially for the convenience of transporting family when they visit.
... Also, we have a granddaughter, husband and one-year old great-grandson who live nearby and thought having a van would be helpful for trips together. Unfortunately, all our hopes were diminished at being able to enjoy the reason we purchased such an expensive vehicle, $65,000+. We are an elderly, retired couple, considered the vehicle an investment, because our two previous Toyota vehicles had lasted us for 15 years with no problems. Therefore hoping our daughter and grandchildren would be able to use the van for many years. The van has been nothing but an Albatross, not being able to drive it with only two passengers, in the front, since learning of the first recall on the second row seats. The local dealer told me if I’d get an appointment and be at their door at 7:00 a.m. they could repair the camera. BUT, dealers have no fix from Toyota for the second row seats. However, I went on line to the Toyota web site and they have a “FIX” process listed. I cannot imagine how a vehicle maker can be allowed to sell a vehicle when they find out it has such safety hazards? We consumers can beg our Legislators to pass laws to that effect, but, hope your agency will take the lead on protecting us consumers since we know this Congress will do nothing. I ask your agency to please take action on this issue and prod Toyota to do something concerning the major safety hazards with their 2025 model Sienna vans.Read more

The factory (OEM) roof rails on my 2023 Toyota Sequoia have become loose at the front and are popping up, no longer sitting flush or appearing securely attached to the roof. This issue occurs during normal driving and is visible without removing any trim or components. The front portion of the OEM roof rails appears to lift or separate, creating concern that the rails or associated hardware could
... detach while the vehicle is in motion. This presents a potential safety hazard due to the risk of parts coming loose at speed and becoming road debris, which could endanger other vehicles. I am aware of other owners reporting similar issues with the factory roof rails on this model, suggesting this may not be an isolated incident. The vehicle has approximately just over 40,000 miles. The dealer has inspected the vehicle and advised that the repair would require significant disassembly and replacement, with an estimated cost of approximately $3,400. Despite the issue involving OEM components and their secure attachment to the vehicle, the repair was denied under warranty due to mileage. Given that this involves factory-installed exterior structural components becoming unsecured, I believe this represents a potential safety-related defect rather than normal wear or damage.Read more

The second row right seat belt receptacle wiring harness failed on my 2024 Toyota Sequoia. The two wires connecting the seat belt buckle sensor were severed cleanly. The wiring harness is routed through the seat fold/pivot mechanism with insufficient slack or protection. Normal use of the fold-flat seat function caused the harness to be pinched and abraded at the pivot point over time, eventually
... shearing the wires completely. The seat belt alarm activated continuously even when buckled, as the sensor could no longer detect buckle engagement. The dealer inspected the vehicle and attributed the damage to user fault, declining warranty coverage. Upon self-repair, the cause was clearly mechanical — the harness routing places the wires directly in the path of the seat pivot with no grommet or strain relief. This is a design defect that poses a safety risk, as a non-functioning seat belt sensor may give false readings about buckle status. The failed component is available for inspection.Read more
