The front multipurpose camera that controls all safety features has failed. This is a major safety hazard because almost every safety feature is non functioning. Driving my Rivian R1S on a road trip with family from Seattle, WA to Ketchum, ID (about 600miles.) Stopped to recharge outside of Boise, ID for about 20mins. Started driving again and in about 5 minutes the car started warning (visual message and audible alarm). The following events then occurred: -- The warning message stated something along the line of "Pull over immediately the car will sh
... ut down imminently." -- I was driving in traffic and was able to make it through an intersection and saw a gas station in the distance. -- The power steering and braking began to go unresponsive and the car began slowing down as I drove through the intersection. I tried to guide the car to the gas station. -- While pulling in to the gas station the car could barely be controlled. Once dropping below 5mph or so it immediately shut itself down. -- The inability to effectively control the vehicle was extremely unsafe. If the intersection I had to pass through had a red light the car would likely have shut itself down and stranded our family at a very busy intersection. -- The car began flashing a ton of different warning messages. "Suspension needs to be serviced", "Front trunk unable to close please service", "Battery system overheating" are a few as an example. -- After calling customer service I reset the vehicle (using prescribed sequence of button pushes.) The car then went dark and nothing worked from there out. -- Called a tow truck and found hotel for family. My vehicles speedometer is always reading 1-4 mph faster than the actual speed I am driving at. For example cars speedometer would read 67 but only actually going 63. The WUM-98 recall fix did not address the problem with the front passenger occupancy detection system. This is jeopardizing the safety of occupants in the front passenger seat for extended periods of time while waiting for parts, whereby the airbag is not active due to the sensor mat problem. The original recall should have encompassed not only the harness cable component, but also the sensor mat. I am being forced to drive a loaner vehicle and pay a car note with NO fixes or repairs being done to the vehicle. I need assistance getting my car fixed or refunded for the purchase. It's been over a year that they've held the car and they have no plans to fix it. I'm including a letter that details the incident. ... sy access. However, the programming they have installed requires the driver to push 2 separate buttons to change a channel rather than a single button. This may seem petty on the surface, however, when you are traveling at 40-60 mph on a highway or busy local street with traffic lights looking for that second button on a touch screen with about 20 buttons, it does divert the driver’s attention for at least 3-4 seconds. No different than texting except that this is what Mercedes has programmed into the car. Very dangerous as I have already experienced. My car is one month old and this problem is a new feature. I know this because I also have another 2024 Mercedes that is 3 months old and is not programmed the same way. It requires only a single touch button to change the channel. Much safer. I am not aware of any other car on the road (ever built) that requires the pushing of 2 buttons to change the channel. I have brought this to the attention of my dealership and Mercedes directly. I was blown off by both as nothing is being planned by Mercedes to correct this. To me it seems to be a simple reprogramming of the radio system to what they had before. The danger should not be underestimated. To answer the questions posed on this site: my car is available for inspection; already explained the safety risk to myself and others; problem has been confirmed by the dealer and Mercedes directly; there are no warning lights for this problem until there is a collision due to driver distraction. I get a random warning that is an issue with the braking system and the Brake light comes on. The lane departure and cruise control is shut off while the vehicle is in motion. There is a sudden and unexpected drop in speed when the cruise control is shut off by the vehicle. The vehicle remains operable without the systems activated the warnings go away after restarting.

Local mechanic informed me that there there is a defect in the piston causing oil to leak in and ruin the piston and spark plugs. This is fouling up the spark plugs, which are covered in oil. There is a recall for this exact issue, same year and model, but my VIN is not included. Diagnostic at dealership shows issue is same as recalled issue but is not able to repair under recall due to VIN. Dealership states cost to repair is $3400.
