My transmission broke down, There have been multiple reports of CVT transmission failures. Toyota experimented with a new transmission in the 2017-2020 CH-r models. No disclosures were attached. Replacements are the only option for this repair. Toyota is charging between $10,000-$14,000 for parts and labor.

Several of us on the Toyota forum are noting that the portion of the sunroof positioned toward the rear seat does not form a proper seal and is letting water into the vehicle. This in turn puts electronics at risk or being compromised and unsafe driving conditions.

The second row seat rails have been improperly welded, and we have been told not to use the second row. The recall was issued in October 2025. There is no fix scheduled. We have a baby and a young child. This car is unsafe for them.

On Feb. 19, 2026, I went to an auto repair store to change oil. I was told that I need to have rear brake pad and rotor replacement service because my car does not have it. The mechanic showed me and said that I only have the front brake work and it can cause safety issue.

Transmission creating a very load whining sound and feels wrong. It sounds like it’s going to blow up. Mechanic said it’s a known issue that can’t be repaired and no recall has been issued. The car is necessary for college and I’m concerned about the safety of driving it with the potential of total transmission failure.

Shop said metal filings were found in the fluids, leading to the breakdown and need for full replacement. No other warning lights or lamps indicated a problem.
