Incident date: May 14, 2022
Incurable Electrical Nonconformity and Active Safety Hazard Four years ago, I reported a severe electrical integration failure to an authorized Tiffin service center. The vehicle’s aftermarket stereo integration harness back-feeds power into the Mercedes-Benz CAN-bus network, causing erratic flashing of the SOS emergency lighting, mirror puddle lights, and interior dome lights all night long.
... Because Tiffin failed to locate this defect, it created a massive, continuous parasitic draw. This system was so violently miswired that it destroyed three heavy-duty automotive batteries in the first year of ownership alone. In an attempt to resolve the issue, the Mercedes-Benz Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS) was replaced. However, because the underlying Tiffin wiring bridge was never severed, the vehicle's central computing network has been fundamentally corrupted. The vehicle is now locked in a permanent "Limp Home Mode," restricting speed to a dangerously low 28 mph on inclines. Operating a heavy motorhome at 28 mph on a public highway incline is a life-threatening safety hazard that leaves me completely vulnerable to catastrophic rear-end collisions. In addition to the chassis-corrupting CAN-bus defects, the vehicle suffers from a total, systemic failure of its primary living-quarter electrical systems. The factory-installed solar panels have never functioned since the date of purchase. Furthermore, the secondary high-output alternator has suffered a complete mechanical and electrical failure, and the primary electrical outlet has physically charred and melted due to dangerous electrical arcing. The vehicle’s entire electrical infrastructure is fundamentally defective, dangerous, and poses an immediate fire and safety risk to its occupants.Read more

On 6/16 we experienced a Freightliner Optiview Dash Flat Panel Delamination with resulted in lines going through the gauges on the Dash. The Dash appears to be functioning with the defect. Initially we thought the flat panel display had cracked. We contacted Freightliner 24/7 Technical Support (Case #15355287) to report the issue. The Representative said that he had not heard of this issue. Whe
... n in fact Freightliner had a recall on the flat panel units manufactured by Medallion Inc, that our Motorhome was not included based on the 2020 model year. We asked the Freightliner representative if the Dash flat panel could stop working which would present a safety issues while traveling down the highway. The Representative would not offer any guidance. He said we should check our fluid levels and in the event the Dash fails we should monitor our speed with a GPS. The representative indicated that we should contact a local Freightliner Service Center to determine what the replacement cost would be for a new Dash flat panel since we were out of warranty. We contacted our local Freightliner Service Center in Hattiesburg, MS. Freightliner part number 66-02439-000 They quoted the cost at $5133 + Installation A search on the Medallion Delamination issue is wide spread across Trucks and many different Motorhome manufacturers. When we first purchased our Motorhome in 2020 the Dash would blackout while traveling down the highway. Freightliner indicated that is was a firmware issue. Flashed the unit and issue has not repeated itself. This was 1 model year after the Medallion flat panel recall. While we understand that component failures can occur having your Dash fail while underway is not acceptable and a manufacturer who cannot answer whether it will eventually fail and will need to replaced.Read more

I bought my Tiffin Open Trail in Nov. 2025. The vehicle pitched, rolled and swayed so badly it could be hard to control going over a speed bump. I decided to upgrade the suspension. I went to Owl Vans in Austin, Texas on March 9, 2026. I stayed a hotel while the work was performed. I received a phone call from Owl the night of March 9th, because they found the inside dually tire had been rubbing o
... n the frame underneath the entire time, with tire failure immenint. This is a 12k pound vehicle. I contacted Tiffin who really seemed unconcerned. Owl provided me with a new tire and informed me that they were upfitting many (25) Open Trails by Tiffin and they had found the vehicle too heavy for the stock Mercedes 3500XD suspension. They informed Tiffin of their concerns. Because I upgraded the suspension significantly it resolved my issue. HOWEVER, I contacted friends who had recently purchased an Open Trail with stock suspension and shared my findings and concern. They had their Open Trail inspected and ALSO found the leaf springs flat and the rear tire rubbing with imminent failure expected. I spent $12k making my vehicle SAFE. If the tire would have blown at 70 mph, losing control of a 12k pound vehicle would have been catastrophic, not only me but anyone else near me. I travel extensively in my Open Trai and so do others.Read more

The vehicle was purchased on 04/07 and represented with a mileage of 167,334 at the time of sale. No issues with the odometer or mileage accuracy were disclosed prior to purchase. On 04/08, the vehicle was taken to Walmart Auto Care Center for routine service, where it was identified and documented that the odometer/instrument cluster is not functioning and does not display or track mileage. Beca
... use the odometer is inoperative, the stated mileage cannot be verified, and the condition existed at the time of sale but was not disclosed. The vehicle was sold in a condition where accurate mileage could not be determined, despite a specific mileage being provided. The failure of the odometer creates a safety concern, as it prevents proper tracking of maintenance intervals, including oil changes, brake servicing, and other critical upkeep. This increases the risk of operating the vehicle with worn or unsafe components, which could lead to mechanical failure while driving. The issue has been confirmed by an independent service center, and documentation is available. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. No prior warnings, indicator lights, or disclosures were provided before purchase, and the defect was identified within one day of ownership.Read more

Concerns a safety-related defect involving the infotainment system in my 2022 Bronco, which is directly related to an active recall and has not been properly addressed by the manufacturer or dealership. Ford issued a recall concerning the infotainment system due to a safety concern. For over a quarter, Ford had no available fix. The entire time I had my Bronco, my infotainment system repeatedly m
... alfunctioned, required frequent resets, & ultimately failed completely. When I contacted the dealership 10/23/25, the earliest service appt was 12/17/25. Upon arrival, I was informed that the infotainment system would need to be repaired before the recall software update could be applied. I explained that the failure itself was the reason for the recall. Despite this, I was required to pay a $196 diagnostic fee to determine if the failure was recall-related. After the eval, the dealership stated the failure was not Ford’s responsibility & provided an estimate of approximately $1,672.61 w/o tax to repair the system on a '22 vehicle. This determination contradicts the stated safety basis of the recall. I contacted my insurance provider to explore coverage. The claim was denied, w/the insurer stating the issue was not caused by an accident or break-in, but was consistent w/a vehicle defect. Despite this, I was still charged the diagnostic fee. Research indicates the recall involves an electrical defect, not only a software issue. A non-functioning infotainment system impacts access to safety alerts & vehicle information, which presents a legitimate safety risk. Ford & the dealership refused to repair the system under the recall, refund the diagnostic fee, or acknowledge the failure as recall-related. I'm continuing to operate a vehicle w/a known safety defect. I'm requesting NHTSA review if recall remedies are being improperly limited, if consumers are being charged for recall-related defects , and if manufacturer &dealership practices comply w/ fed safety requirements.Read more

This vehicle has less than 3,000 miles on it and has been in the shop at least three times for a recurring issue with the transmission "lunging" and "clunking hard upon down shift and upshift (automatic). The electrical system and computer are confused and cause the vehicle to literally stop and not engage in gear while driving! Today, the truck was in DRIVE awhile I was sitting at a light in he
... avy traffic. When I hit the gas at light change, the truck revved up but did not go! I was almost hit from behind as I had no brake lights indicated. Additionally, I kept getting a flashing gear selector indicator knob saying to put the TRUCK IN PARK AND SELECT THE DRIVE OPTION. I did but it still wouldn't go. I then got a software update light on the screen and the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT came on. I finally had to literally wave people around me in traffic as I was stalled out. I turned the truck off, restarted and it moved forward BUT at a high RPM. I have parked the truck but the dealer service is full up until late in the week and RAM CARE representatives were foreign and did not speak English well (I could not clearly understand them in my emergency call). Dealer is unwilling to act decisively to a life or death situation (opinion mine). SO we need to ensure we don't get killed or injured (God forbid) and IF there is a serious incident with this vehicle, there is documentation to attest it has been "serviced" several times for the electrical system fluctuating, the transmission dropping, and the engine not engaging the power train while driving. Attaching a PHOTO of the CURRENT Dash Lights (Warnings on the Left) and check engine light being on AFTER I got the vehicle re-running.Read more

I have taken my car to the dealership now 3 times for the same recall issue. It will not accelerate quickly, could go up in flames, and does not go the speed limit on highways which are required for me to get home and to work. The recall was confirmed by the dealer as the check engine light flashed and caused a certain code to pop up for maintenance. The solution would be for Hyundai to fix the car, but they are refusing and saying the whole engine needs to be replaced now even though there's nothing wrong with the engine.Read more

... use the car was getting NO power. The converter was completely clogged and the whole thing had to be replaced (AT OUR EXPENSE)! This was a recall for the same year Kia Souls, but somehow this one is NOT on the recall list for the exact thing that these were being recalled. How does that work? We were left without a vehicle for days and we had to pay to have the car towed to a garage and repaired. Kia would do nothing, so we had to have it repaired at a reputable garage in our area! Only having the car of less than 8 months after buying it used from a KIA dealership, this is disheartening. How could they sell a car that obviously had issues with the catalytic converter, or they did just NOT check the vehicle out before they sold it to someone. I get that it was a used car but are we seriously going to sell a car to someone that obviously has an issue! So why exactly was this 2016 KIA Soul with the GDI engine, NOT recalled?? We should be reimbursed for this. This is crazy. My daughter could have been in a horrible accident. THANKFULLY she was only leaving her apartment and in the parking lot of her home! What do we do about getting this? This car clearly has issues and should have been recalled with the others!Read more

I am submitting a complaint regarding an unresolved safety issue with the front passenger restraint system in my 2019 Tesla Model 3 (VIN: [XXX] ). Since February 2024, I have encountered recurring alerts for this system, despite multiple service visits to address it. Service History and Concerns: The initial repair attempt on February 27, 2024, involved Tesla replacing the Occupant Classification
... System (OCS) filter module. However, the alert returned shortly after, showing the issue was not resolved. On October 14, 2024, I returned to Tesla, where they quoted $1,800 for further repairs, claiming my general warranty was expired. Their records indicate that this failure directly impacts the front passenger’s safety restraint, making it a serious defect. During a follow-up visit on October 23, 2024, the issue was confirmed but left unaddressed unless I paid out-of-pocket. This recurring fault poses a critical safety risk, as a defective restraint system compromises passenger protection in a crash. Tesla’s refusal to provide coverage, despite prior similar recalls for restraint systems, suggests a pattern of shifting safety costs onto consumers. I request the NHTSA to investigate this fault’s prevalence and require Tesla to provide a remedy that upholds passenger safety. Thank you for your attention to this serious issue. A couple of days before taking my vehicle to get serviced, I started noticing some concerning factors about an issue going on with the vehicles fuel system. When putting fuel in my car, the gas odometer wouldn't match with what the car was marking the gas miles to be. It would fluctuate throughout the day, in the morning it would mark 174 miles of fuel and in the afternoon it would somehow say I h
... ad 215 miles of fuel when I never added more fuel to my call. Also when I opened the gas tank I saw white smoke come out from the tank. My back seat also popped out of the clips that kept it in place. It was very apparent while doing research online of the issues I was going through, that other have similar issues, all leading to the fuel tank expanding. The service center at my local Kia claimed their not 1 but 2 recalls on the vehicles and unfortunately the sensor in the fuel tank needed an update, but because my gas tank expanded while they checked it out, they said they couldn't simply update the sensor as my whole fuel system had to be redone. I have tried to reach out to Kia since I do not have a vehicle to commute to work and it is essential I get the issue resolved with my car. I don't know how long this process will take either since no one provides clear time frames or how the process will go. I am pretty much out of a car for over 6 days and still don't know if it can be repaired or what can be done with my vehicle in the condition it is in.Read more

When making left turns, the Ryker suddenly would ‘skip’ on the right hand side, as though it was lagging behind any time above about 35mph.
