On 9/4/23, I encountered a serious malfunction with my Model Y. The issue in question involved the vehicle crashing into a wall on the top level of a parking structure while using the “Smart Summon” feature in Tesla’s mobile app. The “Smart Summon” feature allows you to use the Tesla app to retrieve the vehicle and have it move to your location (within 12 meters) while you are standing o

I immediately contacted Tesla's customer support and was advised to take my vehicle to the nearest Tesla Service Center or certified repair service center. The Tesla Service Center located in West Covina, CA, performed a diagnostics inspection and technicians said that due to the “Smart Summon” feature being a beta version, they do not take responsibility for the damage caused. I explained that the “Smart Summon” feature was first released in 2016 and that it’s original feature design is for the vehicle to stop completely if it detects any objects in its path of travel. I also raised the question on what if it was our children or any other pedestrian that could have been injured. I would like to emphasize that my Model Y is only 1.4 year old, purchased in April 2022 and it has been meticulously maintained according to Tesla's recommended guidelines. It is perplexing and disheartening to learn that a significant malfunction, seemingly unrelated to any neglect or misuse on my part, would not be covered by Tesla's warranty. I understand that warranties have limitations, but I firmly believe that the malfunction I experienced falls well within the scope of what should be covered. This situation has placed an unexpected financial burden on me, as the estimated repair costs are substantial at almost $8,000. While driving on the highway between Nenana and Fairbanks, AK, on August 9, 2023, I attempted to pass a slow moving RV towing a trailer. While in the passing lane, I accelerated and my vehicle suddenly loss power. ... mph up hills. Immediately after the event, the service engine light came on and the dash showed engine error codes. I took the vehicle to the dealer (Gene's Chrysler in Fairbanks Alaska). After inspection, they indicate that the magnetic surface of the engine tone wheel was delaminating and this initiated the sensor to cause a "limp mode" (mode that limits vehicle's speed). After that event, the vehicle also had trouble starting as though it was not receiving sufficient fuel. The dealer indicated that my vehicle's vin was not covered under the recall even though the problem matched NHTSA campaign number: 23V411. Stellantis’ own number for this recall is 66A. This recall is an expansion of recall 20V475. I feel that my vehicle needs to be added to this recall. Without my vehicle covered under this recall, my family is incurring the costs of a rental car until the new part arrives. The vehicle was dropped off at the dealer on August 23. The part is delayed and expected on October 15 (nearly a two month wait because of a vehicle defect that effects safety). The dealer indicated my vehicle is unsafe to drive. Why isn't my vehicle part of this recall? It is clearly the exact problem identified in the recall notice.Read more

Upon inspection the control arm was seen to be broken in two. I took the problem part to the Octane GMC/Buick dealership in Santa Fe where the vehicle was purchased new and showed the part to one of the mechanics who informed me that he had seen this happen before. As this is a relatively small dealership I thought that it was significant that this mechanic had seen this failure previously. ... front of me in my lane. I was using adaptive cruise control. I can tell you the responsive of this system had me worried from in several other situations I was in. Not only did the adaptive cruise fail detect and slow the vehicle based on the vehicle in front of me, the safety system did not make any attempt to slow the vehicle and no detection was made by the system until about .2 seconds (or about 6') prior to the actual impact. I investigated the safety systems logs with a Honda mechanic by connecting a device to the OBD2 port and downloading the logs to a computer to verify indeed it failed to properly detect any obstacle until it was far to late. This seems to be a concern other Honda drivers have expressed as well with this revision of their Collision mitigation braking system. I believe they market as if this and the adaptive cruise system are features you can rely on to keep you safe and while I understand it can not account for every situation this was a perfectly clear day in Arizona at about 5:30pm in moderate day light. I believe this system is dangerous and has serious flaws that do not properly detect vehicles in front of you in many situations is extremely slow to react in almost every situation. Vehicle has 59,000 miles on it currently I am a Toyota certified collision tech so I try to fix my own cars and not cause unnecessary visits to the dealer and my car started making a wining/clicking noise early 2022 around 55,000 miles. So I tried to diagnose this problem I replaced both front wheel bearings and it seemed to get a little better. Then it got exceptionally worse after about 57,000
... miles the noise was always slightly there since I bought the car used with 20,000 miles. So as the noise continued to get louder I scanned the car and found no trouble codes in any of the vehicle systems. So I did some research online and found ALOT of people complaining about the same type of noise and all said they took the car to the dealer and was told the transmission needed to be replaced. So I took my car in because I knew my warranty expired at 60,000 miles. They said my transmission had an internal failure and that all of the fluids and stuff on my car looked great but unfortunately the transmission had broken internally. They also informed me that my warranty had expired in November of 2022. So even with the milage being in warranty because I do my own maintenance and car on my vehicle they were not willing to help with the costs of repair at all. And the best part is the transmission replacement is $10,000!!!! This isn't a Bentley or Lamborghini it's supposed to be a reliable affordable car and I can't think of any vehicle maker that has anything besides tires brakes and fluids that should need to be replaced before 60,000 miles.Read more

Error message popped on my screen steering might require extra force and shortly after that I lost power steering, cruise control, automatic emergency, braking, forward collision warning land departure etc. Contacted Tesla service to acquire about recalls since I remember reading about it.

The contact stated that the shoulder strap of the front passenger seat belt had caused bruising on her left shoulder and rib cage and she was in pain. The contact stated that emergency services transported her to the emergency room for evaluation and later her driver drove himself to the emergency room for evaluation. The police were on the scene and filed a report. The contact stated that both vehicles were not drivable and her vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The contact said that her insurance provider declared the vehicle a total loss and had determined that the air bags had not deployed as designed.
