I purchased my 2018 Kia Optima directly from the dealership, brand new. I've had the vehicle since then and have followed all of the warranty guidelines and only went to them for oil changes & other maintenance issues. ... k the oil and it'd be low so I would refill my oil. However, this was happening 2 months after my last oil change which wasn't normal. I took the vehicle to Kia and they did an "Engine Consumption Test" where I had to drive for 1000 miles with a seal on the drain plug. After the 1000 miles, I came back and I was only 1/2 quart low. According to Kia it didn't meet the guidelines for engine replacement so they topped off my oil and I left. About 2 weeks after, my oil light came back on. I went back to Kia and spoke with the Shop Manager who stated I was 3 1/2 quarts low! He added oil to my engine and we did another round of the consumption test. When I came back in after that, I was 2 quarts low so that meant I qualified for a "Consumption Cleaning". They kept my vehicle overnight & I had to drive another 1000 miles. When I came in after my 1000 miles again I was only 1/2 quart low and therefore Kia said there wasn't an issue. I've reached out to multiple auto repair shops who state it is a Kia problem, that the engine is using it and processing it out of the exhaust. I don't know what else I have to do in order for Kia to honor the 20 year, 200k warranty. I have all documentation for all of my oil changes and from the consumption tests also.Read more

I was driving in the rain and I experienced an issue with a vehicle’s automatic safety systems that are designed to aid you from crashing and it would have been the proximate cause of my fatal accident had I not realized what was happening and stopped the system’s actions. ... d because it detected the event and created a countering event to correct my mistake, hence begins the issue. When the car veered right it didn’t need to so I had to counter that movement to keep from hitting the car next to me. The car then detected this and created another event that I again corrected before the system could. This created a situation now where the systems working together were creating events to correct events it didn’t need to do because the systems when working together now had a response time to real world events slower than mine and it couldn’t stop itself from doing this solely due to a lack of processing power. In less than 2 seconds I went from driving straight to fighting a car that put me into a horizontal “death wobble” that would have caused my car to spin either clockwise or counterclockwise at some point had I panicked and slammed on the brakes, which is what most people would have done in this situation, but I knew better. I realized what was happening immediately and I stopped it by simply keeping the steering wheel centered straight ahead forcefully until the safety systems caught up and cleared all the events. I am giving you the short version because the system in the first 1-2 seconds made, created, and stacked at least 5 of these events as I fought to correct them until the vehicle’s body roll and “death wobble” stopped and I was able to drive straight again. ... we took it to an independent who had to replace the entire manifold as no service parts were otherwise available. They could find no reason for the sliding car icon to have kept coming on. Even after the manifold replacement it continues to do so at random times. It causes concern over the brakes which is disconcerting at the least. The sudden loss of acceleration while the problem was going on also caused a few scary moments. Nissan was contacted and declined to reimburse us nor did they offer to check the car. This car has been serviced by the dealer exclusively except for the manifold replacement and the service schedule was adhered to. It is a 2017 model and now has under 45,000 miles. It had about 41,000 when the problem occurred. No reason for such an early failure. It is a relatively rare model so no information was available.Read more

Sept 9th, 2023 while driving on the interstate the vehicle lost all propulsion power, red lights shown in "gear, P N D" indicator area. I was in left lane and had to get to the side of the road, 4 lanes over, where putting the car in park and back in drive allowed for it to move forward again. I proceeded to a charging station to inspect the car and during this I hear a thump in the trunk area whe
... n going over bumps. Upon inspection under the car the rear access cover was hanging down but it was dark. The following morning a closer look revealed the rear subframe where the engine mounts had broken and a large piece of the frame was missing from the inside down. Mounting tab and hardware were still in place but pulled from the structure itself. The car was not handling correctly as if it had a low tire but tire pressure was correct. At drop off I noticed the rear camber seemed quite cambered. As a structural engineer I can see where the mounting tab weld to the aluminum frame failed. The frame appears to be cast and extruded tubing welded together and the failure is what would be considered a weak point at a weld. Car is currently at Tesla Norfolk Virginia for an evaluation and when I showed them the issue the staff did not want to document the issue and requested I perform a drive along with a tech. I asked why as the pics were evidence enough as to my complaint and issue. Cursory investigation online yielded this is not an isolated occurrence and with others having very serious failures I felt it important that perhaps it is severe enough for a modified part replacement. Timeline: Around 38,900 miles, during an August 19th maintenance appointment, the technician identified error code C1300, indicating an ABS skid control ECU malfunction and advised dealer contact. In September, during my first visit to the dealer for this issue, despite mentioning C1300, the dealer recommended a battery replacement, which didn't resolve the issue. 2nd Visit to Dealer Service Center: Toyota dealer service detected code C1300 and recommended replacing the ABS Actuator for an estimated cost of $2,009.41. However, this may not guarantee issue resolution, requiring further diagnostics due to potential concurrent unknown factors. C1300 Code: The ABS skid control ECU outputs this DTC if malfunction are found in the circuit inside the ECU by self-diagnosis. Manufacturing Defect: I strongly believe that this malfunction in the ABS skid control ECU is a manufacturing defect. It's rare for a newer, low-mileage vehicle to experience such a critical issue. Safety Implications: This malfunction poses life-threatening hazards, including loss of anti-lock braking, extended braking distances, reduced steering control, decreased stability, increased risk in adverse conditions, and traction control issues. Repetitive Contact with Toyota Headquarters: Despite multiple attempts, Toyota hasn't accepted responsibility. ... ntact stated that upon returning from vacation and driving the vehicle at an undisclosed speed, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with low fuel pressure. The independent mechanic related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) and referred the contact to the dealer for repairs. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump had disintegrated, which caused metal shavings intrusion in the fuel system. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. I went to work at 5 in the morning, I turned the heater for the first time after last winter. I noticed that the heater was struggling to warm the cabin. After 10 minutes driven I got an overheating alert on the dashboard. ... went back home, I drove for 6 minutes and notice a huge amount of smoke coming from the exhaust I pulled over agin on the freeway and waited 20 minutes i finally arrived home and notice the coolant reservoir was empty since the car was burning all the coolant through the exhaust. I went online and saw many many people with Hybrid sonatas complaining about the same issue. This should be a massive recall many of the customers complaining had 20 to 50 thousand miles on their vehicle. This is definitely a safety issue. I’m glad my wife wasn’t driving that day cause the freeway only has two lanes and the shoulder is extremely narrow. I am getting a run around from Nissan at this time as to wether they will pay for the car to be fixed or not. Gateway Nissan has inspected the car and diagnosed the failure of the steering rack. The attached video shows the third time the vibration occurred and the sound is the vibration which did not stop until the car stopped. I was sent out being told it was perfectly safe to drive.
