TL*- THE CONTACT SMELLED GAS FUMES ON THE 2006 SUZUKI VZR1800 MOTORCYCLE. IT DID NOT MATTER HOW LONG HE DROVE THE VEHICLE HE STILL SMELLED THE FUMES. WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING OUR SUZUKI XL7 2004, THE PASSENGER DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, BEGAN TO SHOW SOME SMOKE. SUDDENLY, FLAMES STARTED TO COME OUT FROM THE POWER WINDOW BUTTON. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT WITH WATER. WHEN THE PANAL WAS REMOVED, APPARENTLY THE FIRE WAS DUE TO THE WIRING SYSTEM. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE I HAD EXCEEDED MY WARRANTY PERIOD OF 3/36,000. I BEGAN NOTICING A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE AROUND MY SUZUKI M109R MOTORCYCLE AND COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE STRONG ODOR. I STARTED THE MOTORCYCLE IN MY GARAGE TO LET IT WARM UP AND WENT INSIDE MY HOME TO RETRIEVE A JACKET SO I COULD GO RIDING. WHEN I RETURNED SEVERAL MINUTES LATER THE ODOR OF GASOLINE WAS EXTREMELY STRONG AND I NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE OF GAS HAD FORMED ON THE GROUND UNDER MOTO
... RCYCLE. I SHUT THE MOTOR OFF AND LOOKED AND NOTICED THAT FRESH GASOLINE WAS POURING FROM UNDER THE LEFT SIDE OF THE AIR BREATHER AND DUMPING ONTO THE ENGINE AND THEN ONTO THE GROUND. THIS WENT ON FOR SEVERAL MORE SECONDS UNTIL THE FUEL STOPPED FLOWING FROM UNDER THE AIR BREATHER. I CLEANED OFF THE FUEL FROM THE MOTOR AND OFF THE GROUND AND BEGAN TO DO A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS FROM OTHER SUZUKI M109R OWNERS. I FOUND DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE AND ARE STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. TODAY I CONTACTED MY LOCAL SUZUKI DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED THEM OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THIS IS THE FIRST THEY HAVE HEARD OF THE PROBLEM I DESCRIBED. I WILL TAKE THE MOTORCYCLE IN TO THE DEALER SERVICE AREA THIS COMING SATURDAY AND LET THEM LOOK AT AND FIX WHATEVER HAS GONE WRONG. THE VISCOUS COUPLING WAS REPLACED AND THE ALIGNMENT WAS CHANGED PER MY WORK ORDER AS RECOMMENDED BY THE TS BULLETIN 11225. NOW MY CAR HAS 30,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE TO REPLACE MY TIRES AGAIN. THIS IS A ROUGH DRAFT OF THE LETTER I WILL BE SENDING TO SUZUKI: I BOUGHT MY SUZUKI FORENZA IN FEBRUARY OF 2005. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR THREE TIMES TO SUZUKI OF WEST BROWARD FOR AN OIL LEAK. THE FIRST TIME THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD AN AFTERMARKET OIL FILTER (FROM MEINEKE). I HAD MY DOUBTS THAT THIS WAS THE PROBLEM. I AUTHORIZED THAT THEY CHANGE THE OIL FILTER. THEY ARRIVED THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY AFTERNOON. THE OIL PAN WAS REPLACED. THE CAR WAS STILL LEAKING OIL. I TOOK IT A THIRD TIME AND THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE. THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. BESIDES THE OIL LEAK, THE POWER STEERING HAS BEEN MAKING A HUMMING SOUND WHEN I WOULD TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS PROBLEM I TOOK TO BILL SEIDLES SUZUKI IN MIAMI. I WAS TOLD THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS DIRTY. THIS SEEMED TO WORK FOR SOME TIME BUT NOW THERE IS STILL A LOWER HUM. BEFORE THESE TWO SETBACKS, THERE WERE MINOR PROBLEMS THAT AROSE AFTER THE 36,000 MILE BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. A BULB WENT OUT IN THE DASH AND THE FOG-LIGHT BULBS WOULD CONTINUOUSLY BURN OUT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A GROUNDING PROBLEM IN THE CAR THAT PRODUCES INTERFERENCE ON THE RADIO DIRECTLY RELATED TO MY ACCELERATION OF THE CAR. I DROVE THE CAR OUT AND TALKED TO ANOTHER MECHANIC PLUS THE OWNER OF SPEEDEE'S AND THEY ALL LAUGHED, AND SAID THAT'S NOT RIGHT AND I WOULD NOT GO BACK. I WAS ABLE TO DO SOME RESEARCH PUBLISHED BY OTHER OWNERS AND FOUND THAT THE YEARS 2001 AND 2002 AND PERHAPS LATER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM RESULTING IN REBUILT ENGINES AND REPAIRS PAID FOR UNDER WARRANTY. THE REBUILDS OFTEN WERE DONE MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL SUZUKI REALIZED THE FAULTY DESIGN OF THE PISTON AND REPLACED THEM WITH A 2000 PISTON DESIGN OR A COMPLETE REDESIGN.
