Shortly after purchase, one of the factory tires had a side bulge. The dealer indicated in their opinion, was from a pot hole. However when they checked the rim, it was not damaged. I had tire replaced. Then at 39K miles, all the the other tires were already getting worn out. I've NEVER had tires wear about pre-40K miles in all my life. At local belle tire, they told me that the Hankook tires that
... come with new cars are not the same quality as those you would buy at tire store. But I submitted a replacement claim to Hankook, as the belle tire rep suggested, but they would not honor anything. Simply said need tire insurance. I notice when buying the car new, the dealers offer extra (cost) tire insurance. Must be because the are lousy, compared to buying at a local tire store. Now at 42K I'm replacing tires already. New cars should come with same quality tires as you buy at tire stores. And I will tell everyone about poor quality of Hankook brand.Read more

On the date below, a warning banner and chime signaled that our car's emergency communication system was not functional. Soon after, we noticed that the navigation system was "lost"; ie, showing our car in a different state, sometimes in water, incorrect displays of speed limits being shown, etc. Vehicle was evaluated at a BMW dealership, and the primary defective part was found to be the "shark
... fin" on the roof. Water entered the roof structure (not the interior of the car) via this sharkfin, and resulted in damage to the TCB, which reportedly controls many of the car's more-advanced electrical functions. Due to unfortunate clauses in warrantees on the car--both BMW certified pre-owned coverage, and also a 3rd party service contract that was purchased at the time of purchase, from the BMW dealer, as a bumper-to-bumper "platinum" supplement to the certified pre-owned warranty, are currently in effect for this car--this defect is NOT covered. Cost to repair all involvedf parts is approximately $5,000. As a consequence of this expense, it has not been repaired, and likely will not be in the near future. A Google search about this issue yielded numerous identical incidents involving this same model/year of BMW. Several owners wondered if a recall was needed, since it is clearly a manufacturer defect with clear-cut and repeated ramifications, is very costly to repair (so is likely to NOT be repaired, in many instances), and is subject to a loophole in warranty coverage. My impression from this internet search is that other systems in the car might soon stop working. I believe it is a safety issue, now, given the failure of the emergency communication function controlled by the TCB, and might become more of an issue in the future, when/if additional functions fail.Read more

The electrical call system malfunctions. I’ve done extensive research and actually confirmed with Garret today at A&L BMW that there is a problem in the manufacturing of the shark fin. The gasket that BMW uses does not hole up and the sealant does not keep water from leaking into the fin. Every time it rains/snows or the vehicle is wet the system malfunctions. Currently it only has the ability t
... o affect me if I were in a wreck and won’t notify emergency services. This has the ability to shut down all electrical functions in my car and has been a common issue in BMW dating back as far as 2015. I called them in April to have it looked at, but I didn’t understand the problem and it had ceased. But since the weather has now began to be more frequently wet, this problem has become more persistent. Now they won’t cover because the final warranty expired in December of 2023. This should be recalled because it is a manufacturing issue.Read more

I hit a rock at approximately 35 mph that got projected under my car and caused a bad leak in the battery coolant system. Received a low coolant warning about one minute after the incident. The alert indicated that the car was safe to drive but to schedule service asap. Tesla instructed me to drive to the local SC that is 15 min away when though enough coolant had leaked to render the user display
... black. I had no turn signals, no speedometer, nothing except the ability to move the car. Tesla alerted me the next day that the damaged occurred at a poorly protected point where the coolant lines connect to the HV battery and that the battery with less than 20K miles needs to be replaced. As a result, they discharged the energy from the battery to avoid a “thermal event”. In doing some research, I discovered a number of documented cases of similar failure due to the fact that a plastic part is used to protect this critical area and is known to break and not offer ample protection to the coolant lines and front drive system. I’m very concerned that had this occurred on the highway and I continued to drive that a “thermal event” would occur and put me in grave danger of a vehicle fire. This area is too critical for proper vehicle operation and safety around high voltage components to use plastic parts to protect them. I also discovered that earlier model Model 3s used a heavy cloth for this role before changing to the plastic version.Read more
