On or about 13 May 2024 my family and I traveling. During the travel the vehicle displayed “Hybrid System Stop and Do Not Drive”. We took it in to Kia during the time that they had the vehicle, they informed us that it needed an ECU update (recall). When services were finished, we picked up the vehicle and was made to pay for services that were part of the recall. When we left the dealership,
... the lights on the dashboard appeared 1. Engine, 2. HEV. We called the dealership back and informed them what happened. They told us to take the vehicle back to them. After checking it, they informed us that due to the update that was done to the vehicle it triggered faults in the battery. They informed us we would have to replace the Hybrid Battery that would cost us about $13,000. We stated to them our vehicle wasn’t having battery issues when we initially turned the vehicle in for service. They refused to assist and stated it wasn’t there responsibility even though it was given to us with these faults. We left the dealership and after driving for a few minutes, the warning sign came on and the car began to smell like smoke. I contacted KIA Corporate and informed them that the vehicle displayed a message on the dashboard and smoke. The gentleman I spoke to informed me not to drive the vehicle and park it away from other vehicles and to get the vehicle to KIA to check services. We took it to a different KIA for services. They informed us that the hybrid battery needed to be replaced and the cost. I explained to them the recall issue and that the vehicle was given to us with the issues that started to occur after the update. They said it wasn’t their responsibility and that they weren’t going to fix the damages or issues that were caused by another dealership. I called KIA Corporate and informed them of the situation and how the dealership refused to make repairs although they knew the hybrid battery issues were triggered from the recall updates/repairs.Read more

I have had two incidents with the automatic braking system occur in a short period of time. The Lyriq is not a car that I drive very often so when the incidents occurred in the last 2 of the 3 times of driving the car it makes me scared to drive the car again. The first incident occurred while driving at approximately 35 mph. The road I was on had 4 lanes with a turn lane in the middle dividing
... the 4 lanes with 2 lanes on each side of the turn lane. The road carries moderately heavy traffic as it has many businesses (fast food restaurants, strip malls, etc.) I was driving in the left lane when a truck in the on coming traffic entered the middle turn lane and a vehicle ahead of me entered the lane to the right of me. Neither vehicle crossed the line of the lane I was in. This is normal traffic for the type of road I was on. I know there have been reports of rain interfering with sensors in the past, but this day was clear. My vehicle flashed a red collision warning and engaged the automatic braking system. This was scary as heck. It was very jarring to me and my passenger. Next incident I was parking along a curb. So this time I was driving under 10 mph. I was backing up and there was a hand rail along on a walkway on the curb. There was no way I would hit the railing as it was several feet from the roadway. There was no warning in my car when it engaged the automatic braking system. Even though I wasn’t traveling very fast it was very jarring and my neck was still hurting from the last incident when it engaged the automatic braking. When the car engages the automatic braking system it sounds as though it has hit something or someone has hit you. It’s very confusing. I reported previous incidents to my dealer and they said that the sensors were sensitive and they supposedly did some sort of fix, but frankly I’m concerned what could happen as these incidents have quite seriously been a pain in the neck for me.Read more

Component: Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) My car has less than 2,000 miles on it. I have experienced the situation described below 3 times now. Traffic on a freeway/highway slowed down quickly, and I stepped on the brake pedal to slow down quickly but still gradually. However, the collision auto-braking system activated and my car suddenly halted to a stop with plenty of room (about 1
... and a half cars length) ahead of me. In 2 of those situations, I can see the car behind me quickly react by swerving into the shoulder. Rather than improve safety, this feature created a dangerous situation. In 1 of these situations, I released the brake pedal to move forward slightly (without stepping on the accelerator) and then stepped on the brake down slightly to slow down; the automatic braking system jerked the car to a stop once again.Read more

Upon parking after 20-mile drive, severe leak of transmission oil from transmission oil cooler area, no warning messages/lights or fault codes present. No evidence of leak at starting point for drive, was sudden failure internal to transmission cooler with no evidence of impact/vibration damage or corrosion; failure was perhaps at welds of fins to tubing. Leaking oil creates fire and slip hazard,
... lack of any kind of warning to driver would have allowed continued driving until transmission failed except for luck that this was short trip. Vehicle has never been damaged in a crash, has been carefully inspected and maintained since purchase new. Difficult to believe that this anything other than a manufacturing defect on this early production (VIN ending 002034) vehicle. Under Subaru campaign WQK47, which supersedes an earlier campaign, 05-09 Legacy/Outback and other models are known to undergo accelerated brake line corrosion due to sub-par materials and design. Subaru of America's "fix" for this issue is to inspect the lines: if the lines are compromised, they replace them. If the lines are corroded but not yet compromised, the lines are coated with an anti-co
... rrosion wax. This wax washes off the car and is ineffective. Subaru performed this recall work insufficiently on my vehicle, failing to identify the severity of the corrosion. They coated the lines, called it "fixed", and the brake lines later ruptured under normal driving conditions. This caused a highway near-miss at speed that could have impacted everyone on the road. Multiple Subaru dealerships in Connecticut have refused to re-inspect and repair the vehicle under the recall campaign, despite it being a known critical safety concern, and despite knowledge that the original parts and anti-corrosion application are sub-par. They insist that because the ineffective recall campaign was already "completed", they bear no further responsibility for the design compromises and sub-par materials that are the root cause of this issue. Additionally: Under Subaru bulletin 12-197-16R the dashboard of 05-09 Subaru Legacy/Outback models is known to become sticky and melt. While this might initially be considered a cosmetic issue, the melted surface is DRAMATICALLY reflective. The hump over the gauge cluster melts first, causing a huge, intense sun glare reflection in the windscreen directly ahead of the driver. I own two 05-09 Subaru Legacies; this issue is present in both. Subaru of America has rejected my replacement claims on both cars because the cutoff date for their open recall has expired. This is a major and constantly worsening safety issue that severely limits driver visibility. Because it developed slowly, it was not a safety concern until after closure of the recall.Read more
