I write to add my voice to the litany of complaints in support of NHTSA investigation DP23005. While on an interstate road trip recently the ABS, Traction Control, and Brake warning lights all came on. The brake felt squishy and didn't seem to be functioning as confidently as before. I altered my driving (giving plenty of distance, lowering my speed) so that in the event the brakes quit working I
... would have an exit strategy. I took it to my Independent Service Center as soon as possible who found the code C1391 and diagnosed the need to replace the master cylinder / booster assembly for several thousand dollars. Of course I must do this in order to remain safe but this is clearly a safety issue that could have been catastrophic. Meanwhile I am out of a car for several weeks until the part arrives and out of at least $2000 as quoted by my mechanic ($1640 for the part). The car only has 146,500 miles on it so otherwise would have plenty of life left in it. I'm filing this complaint to add my voice to the open petition and toward the NHTSA's investigation in strong support of holding Toyota responsible for PREVENTING injury and death through a proper recall, as well as against burdening the car owner with the costs of making up for Toyota's negligence on this issue. At the least they need to cover the cost of these necessary safety repairs when they are warned by the lights and reinstate their warranty extension for this issue ("POL18-03") which expired for my vehicle in August of 2021.Read more

I am writing to report a persistent issue with my Chevy Malibu, specifically related to the Stabilitrak system. The Stabilitrak light intermittently flickers on and off while driving, which raises significant safety concerns. This malfunction has been ongoing, and despite efforts to diagnose the problem, my local auto mechanic has been unable to pinpoint the exact cause. Services Performed: Initi
... al diagnostic checks were conducted to identify any fault codes related to the Stabilitrak system. The mechanic found no definitive issues but noted that the warning light's behavior indicated a potential underlying problem. Each visit has led to additional uncertainty, with suggestions from the mechanic to proceed through the GM flow chart for further diagnosis. However, this approach may lead to extensive labor costs with no guaranteed resolution. Financial Burden: The recommendation to follow the GM flow chart for diagnosis is concerning, as it may result in significant and unnecessary expenses without a clear outcome. As a consumer, I believe that a properly functioning diagnostic system should provide clarity on such issues without incurring exorbitant costs. The erratic behavior of the Stabilitrak system poses a serious safety risk while driving. This system is critical for maintaining vehicle stability, particularly in adverse conditions, and its failure could lead to loss of control of the vehicle. I have been made aware of other drivers experiencing similar issues with their Chevy Malibu vehicles. It raises the question of whether there is a known defect in the Stabilitrak system that warrants a recall. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter further, as it seems that GM has not taken the necessary steps to address these concernsRead more

My teenage son was involved in an accident because of distraction caused by his he dashboard. Upon taking right turns with the right blinker, the LEFT blinker would subsequently illuminate for at least 4 blinks. Additionally, the CHECK ENGINE light was also illuminated. The vehicle only had less than 90miles on it. As he took a right turn at a 4 way stop, he was distracted by the left blinker and
... attempted to turn off the blinker manually which caused him to steer into the curb which them caused him to lose control and his a brick mailbox. $8500 worth of vehicle damage and $1500 worth of mailbox replacement damage was caused. After collision repair, I will take the truck jn to get switch replaced AND inspect why the check engine light is illuminated.Read more

My vehicle was not included in BMW Recall "23V-707: Replace Vanos Adjustment Unit Screw Connection" but has suffered the same failure described in this recall. My vanos adjustment unit bolts on both exhaust and intake sides of the engine were all much more loose than factory specification, so much so that I was able to remove 6 of them with my fingers alone. I think there should be a full safety recall on this issue as it seems to affect a much wider variety of cars than initially thought. I was able to re-tighten them to factory specs, but I have no confidence that it will stay that way. NHTSA Recall No: 22V-702, in 2022, was where there was supposedly an OTA update to stop the windows from increasing force in some situations when an object was stuck in the gap between the window and the frame. My 2021 Tesla received that update at the time, and I didn't think much of it...until January 2024 when it actually happened to me. I shut the door with my hand on the window, and at the
... moment it closed, the window went up to close the small gap. My finger was in there and as I tried to pull it out, the window was still trying to close, not allowing me to do so. Component that failed -- the window, supposedly fixed in 2022 Available for inspection upon request -- returned the leased car in September 2024 How was safety put at risk -- could not remove finger from gap between window and frame since window was continuously trying to close Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center -- I was ignored by Tesla HQ, and by my closest dealer. The Tesla dealer from which I leased the car (a different one) told me to make a service appointment. Has the component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others -- no Were there any warnings or symptoms -- no. No reason to think it would ever happen, then it did in January 2024.Read more

Case number 240821-000271 was opened on 8/21/24 with Volvo Car USA Support. I have three main concerns: 1) The infotainment system losing the favorites that I have saved in the Sirius application. This had been an intermittent problem that I had been having since I purchased the car. I finally took it into the service department at Volvo Cars of Gilbert on 1/7/23 for this problem (Invoice Numb

As I was driving down the road the HVAC system shut off and the dash and infotainment system screens went blank. All car systems completely shut down except the engine. This was an extremely frightening experience as all of this happened with no warning whatsoever WHILE I WAS DRIVING. This is a huge safety issue! Within about a minute of driving like this the systems started to come back up. I proceeded home. The next morning I took the car to Volvo Cars of Gilbert again. They had the car for 5 days and performed a software update on the IHU (Infotainment Head Unit) (Invoice Number VOCS120164). 3)The failure of the infotainment system to update after starting the car and driving. This happened on 8/7/24 and I took the car directly to Volvo Cars of Gilbert again. The infotainment system was stuck on “Infotainment system starting…” for the entire 12-minute drive to Volvo. Volvo Cars of Gilbert had my car for 8 days this time and this time they did a reload to the existing IHU (Invoice Number VOCS121204). I asked that they replace the IHU. Volvo refused to replace the IHU because it was too expensive at $3200. Also, the problem of the infotainment system losing its radio favorites has become much worse. It happens daily now. I believe there is an opportunity for a catastrophic event to happen while I am driving if this IHU problem is not corrected immediately.Read more

It has not been duplicated by the dealership that I have taken my car to however I have been able to record it several times when it occurred. There are no other warning lights that come up when this occurs, however I have codes that show that some of my radar sensors are not functioning properly. I pressed the gas pedal, thinking I might have let up too much or accidentally had my foot on the brake. However, pressing the gas only caused the RPM to spike, with no change in my speed. I had to act quickly, paying close attention to the surrounding traffic as my car slowed down. Thankfully, I managed to maneuver from the far-left lane to the shoulder of the highway. My speed had dropped to around 30 mph and was decreasing. Trying to safely navigate a slowing vehicle on a highway filled with traffic is an adrenaline rush I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I was in a state of severe panic. As I steered the car onto the shoulder, I noticed it was shaking and struggling to move forward. White smoke was also coming from the exhaust. A connecting rod bearing failed in the engine leading to catastrophic engine failure with the connecting rod breaking through the wall of the engine block causing a hole and undriveable vehicle. According to my research, this issue has been recalled in adjacent model years (2015-2016) but not in my model year (2013) that has the same engine. This issue has already been confirmed in these engines,
... but Hyundai states my car is not included in the recall. This was a safety risk because the engine failure breached the engine wall which could have ignited engine oil and caused a fire. The engine may have also failed at a critical driving moment when acceleration was needed and stranded the car in an unsafe position. Yes, the problem was reproduced at the dealer's service center because the failure occurred while they were test driving my vehicle. Since the service center tech was the one driving the car when the incident occured, I do not know if there was a fire or not and the speed they were traveling, etc. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer service center and confirmed that this is the issue that caused the problem. The dealer even suspected this was going to happen as they had foreknowledge of the issue occurring on other vehicles that had already been recalled for this issue. The only prior warning of this issue is that I had some misfires on the engine a few days before which is what prompted me to bring it in for service. The misfires temporarily illuminated the "check engine" light but then the light went back out again. I had no idea this minor issue would result in such a severe, catastrophic failure.Read more
