What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Key ignition does not want to release once car is in park and shutdown. There have been numerous problems associated with battery drain and improper function of the vehicle's automatic lift gate. Starting with the first dead battery situation on 12/25/21, there have been a total of 6 dead battery situations with this relatively new, certified pre-owned vehicle. Two new batteries have been provided through a AAA membership, but neither new battery has addressed the s
... ituation. The vehicle was taken to its place of purchase (Kendall Subaru of Eugene) on 02/02/22 to have a battery charge test conducted which was described by the dealership as the first and only course of action for the problem. The car passed Subaru's battery charge test and continued to have battery problems. Other than dealing with numerous dead batteries, improper function of the lift gate has also caused frustrating and unsettling conditions. For example, sometimes the automatic lift gate function on the vehicle's trunk won't work and the trunk will stay open. After force-closing the trunk, sometimes a loud beeping noise persists during driving of the vehicle for seemingly arbitrary and lengthy periods of time. Following is a list of dates when battery problems with this vehicle have occurred: 12/25/21; 12/27/21; 1/25/22; 3/21/22; 4/4/22; 5/22/22Read more

When I cont

I have since read that this has been a known issue for several years as the windshields on these models are reportedly thinner than normal so that the "eyesight" technology can function appropriately, and it concerns me that this spontaneous cracking is a safety issue yet no recalls have been made. I am afraid to drive my car further as the crack enlarges day by day. I am still waiting to get this sorted out to get it replaced.Read more

My car battery went dead and I was unable to start the car. I was camping and fortunately the ranger had a battery jump box. There was nothing wrong with the battery. When I returned I asked the dealer about it and was told these new cars have so many things that need battery power and we must have opened the doors too many times. On 12/27/2021, I decided to purchase a new battery plus the portabl

We made sure to keep the doors shut to keep interior lights off and turned the light off when the rear gate was open. The jump box was a life saver as again we needed to jump the car. Then next day as the car sat with all the doors closed, I started hearing beeping sounds almost like an SOS. Lights flashed. The car beeped more and more. We tried starting it to no avail. Luckily, we were able to charge the jump box and successfully start the engine again. This vehicle was made for an active outdoor life style. Windshield Replacement due to rock chips: Within 3 months of purchasing my Crosstrek, my windshield received 3 rock chips: I will say, I don't drive OFF ROAD. I drive on the highways or paved city streets. When this first occurred in 2018 (purchased in Oct2018), I was shocked. I've owned cars all my life (I'm over 50y - drove Nissans) & NEVER had a rock chip incident. Anyway, dealer told me I shou
... ld be more careful and it's my fault - the service guy actually inferred that it must be because I'm a woman and drive badly (I haven't gone back to that dealer). I wasn't happy but had the rock chip repaired but one: It couldn't be repaired because it was on passenger side but down by the black area where the shield connects with the body of the car. Was told to wait and see. That winter the crack spread significantly to a 48+ inch crack that scaled the entire windshield. Because of the pandemic, I recently took it in for replacement (costing $1,076.52). Now, not even a month after replacing the old windshield - yesterday in fact - the windshield developed a new rock chip crack. I'm beyond understanding why this is occurring. It's as though the Crosstrek is a magnet for this type of event. I love my car but I really am not pleased - and feel the design of the windshield makes these vehicles prone to this type of issue. I know the manufacture has to be aware due to the number of complaints they receive but have yet to improve the design to correct for it.Read more

My windshield cracked in February 2022 while parked and was replaced with a new Subaru windshield under warranty in February 2022. After having the windshield replaced, it cracked again in May 2022, with the crack propagating from the same spot at the base of the wiper blade on the driver's side windshield. The windshield glass failed. It was available for inspection at Safelite and Subaru upon
... request. Disagreement between myself and Subaru and Safelite as to cause. The main crack is a stress crack, which started from the base of the windshield and propagated towards the center of the windshield. There is a small radial fracture, which seems to be around a jog in the main fracture, possibly where there was a local stress field change in the glass around the intermittent tip of the propagating fracture. Subaru and Safelite claim it is an impact fracture because of the small radial/conchoidal fracture. However, a) I did not witness an impact while driving when the crack initiated, b) the same type of conchoidal/radial fracture can occur due to localized stress field changes in the damage zone ahead of a propagating fracture tip, 3) and the main fracture can then continue to propagate through the damage zone, as it seemed to do in my windshield. The fracture deviates slightly at the radial point, suggesting the radial nature is due to a local stress field change rather than an impact. Furthermore, the intersection of the crack with the molding at the base of the windshield is in almost an identical location to the February 2022 crack, which occurred while my car was parked and had no impact. Even if there was a minor impact, the crack propagating at the same location at the base of the windshield is statistically unlikely unless there is an issue with the glass. Safety of myself and others was put at risk by reducing visibility. No warnings or other signs of failure occurred prior to the windshield failure.Read more
