The electrical system fails, and the battery is not charging sufficiently. When the auto start/stop engages, the car does not restart in traffic. Requested a battery test at the dealership in May 2025; was told it could not be done that day because it would require leaving the dealer service shop. Eventually, the electrical system became unstable, and the car stopped in traffic on 11/07/2025. Repl

While driving at 45 MPH with my wife in the front passenger seat, on a two lane road (one way each direction) in Wake Forest NC, no cars were in the front or rear of my vehicle , sunny clear weather, the following happened: Driving normally, then all of a sudden, the car proceeds to, what felt like emergency braking and then a split second, the dashboard signals come on , different symbols, then
... a red image appears on the dashboard (for a split second) then it brakes hard a second time (within a split second) then everything clears and the car proceeds to drive normally. The braking action felt like a severe brake pulsing, then a split second release and then another spilt second brake pulsing and then everything cleared and the car continued to drive normally. The braking was so severe, my wife and I lurched forward towards the windshield, held back by our seat belts. The braking occurred suddenly with nothing near the vehicle. The emergency braking came in the first pulse, then followed by a extremely brief release(split second) then another quick emergency braking action(split second), then multiple lights and warnings quickly appeared on the dash board ending with a split second red symbol (so brief i could not determine any of the warnings or lights). Then the car drove normally after that. If any vehicle had been behind us, a rear accident collision could have taken place. This happened on Saturday, February 14th at approximately 2:30pm on Forestville Road, in Wake Forest, NC. This was an extremely dangerous situation. As this is now a Sunday, the Nissan dealer will be contacted tomorrow and arrangements will be made to bring the vehicle in for an inspection ASAP. I feel the vehicle is unsafe to drive at this point in time.Read more

Sudden High-Decibel Static Noise and Complete Failure of the Audio Head Unit/Infotainment System 1. Component or system failure and availability for inspection: The component that failed is the Audio Head Unit (Infotainment System). During operation, the system suddenly malfunctions by emitting an extremely loud, high-decibel "static" or "screeching" white noise through all vehicle speakers. When
... this occurs, the volume controls (both on the steering wheel and the dash) become completely unresponsive, and the unit cannot be turned off. The only way to stop the noise is to pull the vehicle over and perform a full ignition cycle (turning the engine off and on). 2. Risk to the safety of the driver and others: This failure poses a severe safety hazard for the following reasons: Startle Effect: The noise occurs abruptly at maximum volume, causing an immediate "startle response" that can lead to a loss of vehicle control, especially at highway speeds. Aural Overload & Panic: The intensity of the noise is so high that it causes physical pain and cognitive overload, making it nearly impossible for the driver to focus on the road or hear surrounding traffic, such as emergency sirens or horns from other vehicles. Operational Distraction: Since the noise cannot be silenced while the car is in motion, the driver is forced to navigate to a stop under extreme duress, significantly increasing the risk of a collision.Read more

On December 27, 2025, at approximately 150,556 miles, my 2015 Kia Optima Hybrid experienced sudden engine knocking, power loss, and failure while driving at 65 mph on a highway. The vehicle dropped into limp mode and I had to pull off the highway. The car required towing to the dealership as it would not drive safely. Diagnostics revealed a knock sensor error (P1326 code) and failing connecting ro
... d bearings via Bearing Clearance Test, consistent with the known Theta II engine defect (manufacturing debris causing oil starvation and premature bearing wear). This follows earlier symptoms: Intermittent 'Check Hybrid System' warnings in early December 2025 at 148,665 miles (dealership unable to reproduce, but historical codes noted). The Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software update was performed in February 2022 during prior CHS warnings. Despite onset of issues under the 150,000-mile extended warranty limit per the Kia E2 Settlement, Kia denied coverage due to the minor mileage overage and directed me in a loop between Consumer Assistance and the Settlement Administrator. The defect poses a serious safety risk: potential for sudden engine seizure, stalling while driving, or engine compartment fire (as seen in related Theta II recalls and thousands of NHTSA complaints). No crash, injury, or fire occurred in my case, but the failure left the vehicle undrivable and unsafe on the road. I have service records and diagnostic reports to support this.Read more

On or about January 7, 2026, we were driving through town and the dash cluster lit up with five separate warnings for safety features no longer operational. These are adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation, road departure mitigation, and automatic high beams. We cleaned the windshield and radar housing. Then the battery was replaced. None corrected the problem. An appoi
... ntment was then scheduled at the dealership for 1/9/2026. It was determined the multi-purpose camera had an internal short. The only fix is a new camera ($1284) and re-aim process. The total repair cost, not including the $165 diagnostic fee, is $1727. In the meantime, the driver safety features are mostly unavailable, including the traditional cruise control. I say mostly because the system randomly works for a few minutes before overheating/shorting. I worry about fire and sudden emergency braking due to the short. I must note this system has never functioned well. In particular, the camera and/or radar “sees” problems that don’t exist and unnecessarily and repeatedly activates the warning notifications, especially on two-lane highways. I may still have video of a trip where there were dozens of warning notifications within just a few miles for cars in their own lane. The collision mitigation system has been off for nearly all our ownership as it nearly caused a major accident on our second day. As I was accelerating up to highway speed to merge onto the highway I activated my turn signal. A truck in the driving lane was slowing to let me in, however, the system saw traffic in the vicinity and activated numerous warnings on the dash while simultaneously activating the brakes and steering me towards the ditch. The car behind me had to panic brake to avoid hitting me. I had limited driver input during this period but was able to get stopped on the shoulder of the highway. I liken the Honda Sensing system to a 16 year old driver who is prone to panic.Read more
