Given the lane position and obstructions ahead (freeway on ramp), the car ran over a median and scraped along side the curb and on top to damage the front passenger wheel enough for it to pop. Only when the wheel broke did the car’s brake re-engage and I was able to put it into park. The vehicle has not yet been inspected and is available in my driveway for inspection. There was no warning or indicators leading up to this. In fact, the vehicle had just been inspected for an oil change at the dealership three weeks prior. This accident would have caused a fatality, mine, if not many others if there had been cars ahead of me or cars had been in the intersection or if the wheel did not break in time before merging with the freeway traffic. I googled "clicking noise in steering wheel" and found thousands of listings (all KIA and Hyundai) for failures of a coupler in vehicles along with numerous videos with the same symptoms that I experienced. I could not find anything similar for the KIA Forte even though I found many on-line consumer complaints for the same issue in the KIA. I contacted both the nearest service dealer (no appointments until April) and KIA Consumer and they said they had a significant back-log for any service. I would like to know if there have been enough complaints from KIA Forte owners that the warranty extension would apply. If not, I would like to add this complaint for the KIA Forte so that the NHTSA knows that the issue is more widespread than just for the models listed in the original extension. This shaking has become violent at times and have had to take evasive maneuvering to avoid an accident or damage to the truck. No warning lamps have come on nor have any other indicators. The problem has progressed to where it may be unsafe to take it on the freeway for any trips. I do fear for my safety and have to be vigilant at all times. The dealer will be notified on 27 Jan 2023 so a record can be made. Have gone on-line to find out that over a thousand other similar reports are out there and video footage. I have spent hundreds of dollars replacing bulbs since I have owned the vehicle and I am also at risk of getting ticketed. -I have informed the dealer of my problem on multiple visits to the dealership. The first time the associate simply responded with "Yeah, they're known for that" and asked if I wanted them to replace the bulb for an up-charge. The second time the response was "There aren't any recalls, you'll have to pay to have it thoroughly inspected and fixed". -The vehicle components have not been thoroughly inspected by anyone. -I do have a warning indication when my blinkers go out. The arrows on the dash will stay lit constantly and there is a faster pace blinker tick when it is not working properly. Other than that there are no other warnings. These issues have been occurring ever since I bought the vehicle in November of 2016.
