I WONDER IF THE SCION XB WINDSHIELD IS TOO THIN. I'VE HAD MY XB ONLY ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AND HAVE HAD TWO BROKEN WINDSHIELDS AND EACH OCCURRED ON PAVED ROADS. PRIOR TO THAT I'D ONLY HAD ONE BROKEN WINDSHIELD IN 45 YEARS OF DRIVING. *JB

LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS ON THE 2008 SCION XB DO NOT PROJECT OUT FAR ENOUGH FROM THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A CLEARLY DEFINED LINE ABOUT 75 FEET FROM THE VEHICLE WHERE THE LIGHT ENDS AND THE DARK BEGINS DURING NIGHT DRIVING. THE SOLUTION ACCORDING TO TOYOTA/SCION WAS TO PURCHASE FOG LAMPS AS AUXILIARY LIGHTING THEY DO HELP AS DO THE HIGH BEAMS. HOWEVER THE SO CALLED "HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS W/ PROJECTOR LOW BE

THEY CLAIM THE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED TO THE MAXIMUM. AND ARE DESIGNED AS URBAN LIGHTS SO AS TO NOT BE INTRUSIVE TO OPPOSING DRIVERS OR PEDESTRIANS. 1) THIS IS NOT A FAILURE DUE TO AN EVENT BUT A DESIGN FLAW ON THE SCION TC WITH ELECTRONIC THROTTLE "DRIVE-BY-WIRE". THE CONTACT WANTED TO FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST TOYOTA SINCE THE AIRBAGS AND WIRE HARNESS SYSTEM DID NOT PROVIDE THE PROTECTION REQUIRED WITH THIS TYPE OF COLLISION. THE CASE IS BEEN REVIEWED BY ALL STATE. TOYOTA EXPLAINED THAT SINCE THE WIRING HARNESS WAS CUT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK IT CAUSED THE SEAT BELTS AND AIRBAGS NOT TO DEPLOY. ON MARCH 3RD YEAR 2007 AT 3:00 AM I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT WHERE MY CAR WAS HIT IN THE FRONT END BY AT LEAST 25 METAL POLES THAT HOLD UP THREE GUIDE WIRES AT 65 MILES AN HOUR DUE TO A TIRE BLOWOUT TOTALING MY CAR. THE COMPLAINT IS THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON IMPACT SEEING AS MY FRONT END AND UNDERCARRIAGE WAS DEMOLISHED RIGHT NEAR THE AIRBAG SENSOR. *JB

2004 SCION XB. CAR DROVE BY, SMALL STONE HIT WINDSHIELD. VERY TINY MARK ON WINDSHIELD. WHILE I WAS DRIVING, A HUGE CRACK SPREAD ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. I'VE NEVER HAD A CAR BEFORE THAT WITH A SMALL CHIP OR STONE MARK, THE WHOLE WINDSHIELD CRACKS. THIS HAS TOO BE A DESIGN FLAW. I AM NOW FORCED TO REPLACE MY WINDSHIELD FOR THE THIRD TIME ON MY SCION XB 05'. EVERY TIME IT STARTS OUT WITH A TINY CHIP THAT LEADS TO A CRACK THAT SPREADS QUICKLY. THE DESIGN OF THE CAR AND THE ANGLE OF THE GLASS CONTRIBUTE TO THIS PROBLEM. *JB

CAR PURCHASED WITH 61 MILES ON 2/18/2007. DURING DRIVING AT 50 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY ENCOUNTERED A PIECE OF WOOD, APPROX. 2"X4"X12". UNAVOIDABLY RAN OVER WOOD AND GOT A FLAT TIRE. PURCHASED CAR IN SEPTEMBER 2006 IN NORTH HOLLYWOOD. SITTING AT GAS STATION EARLY MORNING NEAR MT SHASTA (NORTH CALIFORNIA, TEMPERATURE JUST ABOVE FREEZING) WITH HEATER RUNNING. WHILE PUMPING GAS HEARD A CRACKING NOISE, CAME AROUND TO FRONT OF CAR AND FOUND CRACK RUNNING HORIZONTALLY FROM LOWER DRIVER SIDE OF WINDSHIELD. WITHIN TWO HOURS CRACK HAD GROWN ALMOST SEVEN INCHES, CURVING UP FIRST THEN

BY THE TIME I GOT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE "SERVICE MANAGER" RAN A PEN ALONG THE CRACK AND DECLARED THAT A GRAIN OF SAND HAD STRUCK THE WINDSHIELD AND THAT THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO COVER THE REPAIR. I CONTACTED TOYOTA, THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD DEFER TO THE DEALERSHIPS "EXPERTS," EVEN THOUGH I POINTED OUT THE MANY, MANY POSTINGS ON THIS FAULT ON THIS WEBSITE. THERE IS DEFINITELY A RECALLABLE FAULT IF A GRAIN OF SAND TRAVELING AT FREEWAY VELOCITIES CAN CAUSE A FAILURE OF THE WINDSHIELD; WERE THAT EXPLANATION TRUE NO TOYOTA COULD SAFELY BE ON THE ROAD.
