THE DEALER WAS CONTACT AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE SENSOR RECALIBRATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 42,000.

WE WERE TOLD BY AQA THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CRUISE CONTROL CONTINUES TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT OCCURRING ON 12/11/10. WE LEARNED THROUGH A SEARCH OF THE INTERNET THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS CRUISE CONTROL ON THE 2006 SCION XB BUT WE WERE TOLD THAT RECALL APPLIED ONLY TO FACTORY INSTALLED CRUISE CONTROLS. THE CRUISE CONTROL ON OUR CAR IS A ROSTRA MODEL AND WAS INSTALLED AT THE DEALERSHIP PRIOR TO OUR TAKING POSSESSION OF THE CAR. THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED REGARDING THE CRUISE CONTROL. I HAVE RECEIPTS, BUT INCONVENIENTLY I AM MISSING JUST A FEW RECEIPTS FOR THE OIL FROM LOCAL AUTO PARTS SHOPS. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I SO HAPPEN TO RECOVER EVERY RECEIPT, THEY WOULD RECONSIDER. MY MAINTENANCE LIGHT TURNS ON EVERY 5,000 MILES AND I'VE BEEN CHANGING MY OIL ACCORDINGLY. I EVEN PASSED MARYLAND STATE EMISSIONS TEST ON OCTOBER 15, 2010 SHORTLY BEFORE THE BREAKDOWN OF THE CAR, WHICH INDICATES MY VEHICLE HAD NO PROBLEMS AT THE TIME. AT THIS POINT, I REALIZE TOYOTA REALLY ISN'T TRYING TO GRANT ME THE WARRANTY. IT SEEMS EVERY ENCOUNTER I HAVE WITH A CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY KEEP REJECTING ME DUE TO 'TECHNICALITIES,' ONE AFTER ANOTHER. THE TRUNK HATCH HANDLE OF MY 2005 SCION TC BROKE OFF ONE DAY WHEN OPENING THE TRUNK HATCH. THE TRUNK HANDLE IS NEEDED IN OPENING THE TRUNK. IT HAS AN ELECTRONIC BUTTON RELEASE THAT MUST BE PRESSED AT THE SAME TIME THAT THE TRUNK IS LIFTED. THE HANDLE BROKE OFF THE CAR WITHOUT WARNING AND WITH ONLY NORMAL USE. UPON INSPECTION OF THE PART I AND SEVERAL MECHANICS (INCLUDING TOYOTA TECHNICIANS
... ) DETERMINED THAT THE PART IS FLIMSY AND OF POOR DESIGN. TOYOTA TECHNICIANS ALSO ADMIT THAT THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE. IT IS A PART USED TO RAISE THE WHOLE TRUNK HATCH AND IS MOUNTED TO THE CAR WITH WEAK PLASTIC. I HAVE SEARCHED ONLINE FORUMS AND HAVE SEEN MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. ALTHOUGH SINCE MOST HAD THEIR HATCH HANDLE BREAK IN THE FIRST 3 YEARS (COVERED UNDER WARRANTY), THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN SPECIFICALLY ADDRESSED. IT IS A PROBLEM FOR THOSE OF US THAT HAVE FAILURES OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD BECAUSE THE PART HAS NOT BEEN OFFICIALLY DETERMINED TO BE DEFECTIVE. I HAVE HAD THE PART REPLACED AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. I HAVE TRIED TO GET THE TOYOTA DISTRIBUTORS TO DETERMINE THIS PART DEFECTIVE, BUT THEY DENY MY CLAIM SAYING IT IS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY. BEING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY IS NOT THE ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE THIS PART TO BE DETERMINED DEFECTIVE SO THAT IF I OR OTHER OWNERS FIND IT BREAKS OFF IN THE FUTURE IT IS REPLACED BY TOYOTA AS IT IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE NORMAL FUNCTIONING OF THE CAR. *TRRead more
