I am submitting this complaint about Safety Recall C4B / NHTSA 24V‑896 for my 2018 Ram 2500 (VIN: [XXX] ). I am active‑duty military living in Virginia; the truck is registered in Tennessee. FCA’s recall notice says the brake hydraulic control unit (HCU) may fail, causing intermittent then permanent loss of ABS, ESC, and traction control, and that this “may cause a vehicle crash without p
... rior warning.” My truck shows as affected, but I have been unable to get the recall repair. The notice also states that the remedy is “not currently available” and that FCA will contact me when it is. As of February 2026, more than a year after the recall was initiated, I am still being told that parts are unavailable and there is no firm ETA for when the repair can be performed. In the meantime, I continue to drive with a known safety defect FCA has already acknowledged. My truck’s ABS and ESC lights cycle on and off while driving, consistent with the defect description. This creates real concern about whether ABS/ESC will function during emergency braking or low‑traction conditions, especially given that I use the truck for commuting and towing. I am also aware that FCA is reimbursing owners who have already paid out of pocket to replace failed HCUs, which suggests that replacing the HCU is the recognized fix, even as owners like me are told there is “no remedy available” under the recall. This appears to leave many vehicles on the road with a known safety defect and no timely, practical way to obtain the promised free repair. I respectfully request that NHTSA review FCA’s handling of Recall 24V‑896, evaluate whether FCA is providing a remedy within a reasonable time, and consider any enforcement or additional oversight needed to ensure parts are supplied and repairs completed promptly for all affected vehicles. Oil consumption is an issue. My vehicle is using a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. Manufacturer says oil changes are 5,000 mile intervals, however at 2500 miles the dipstick is dry and the low oil light comes on. There are no leaks in the driveway, nor is it smoking. The manufacturer claims this is normal. If I were to wait the 5,000 miles for an oil change I would only have three quarts of o
... il left in an engine that is supposed to have 8 quarts and therefore my engine would lock up. I fear that this engine will fail and I travel with our daughter all over the state of MO and OK for horse shows and do not wanted to be stranded on the interstate with my child in the car. After much research it is obvious this is a common problem with the 6.2L engines. There is an abundance of videos, forums, chats, etc stating how widespread this issue is and that GM continues to put off developing a fix or replacing the engines. We just completed an oil consumption test with the dealership and they are going to submit it to the warranty company. However, our fear is they will deny it saying it's a GM issue and kick it back to us.Read more

While driving on highway under 40mph, the brakes and steering wheel locked simultaneously. It was 530am so I was lucky there was no one else on the road or else this could have led to a fatal accident. The car was towed to the dealer and they said it was an electronic brake booster that went bad, but are unsure if this caused both the brake and steering failure. The dealer has not been transparent or helpful. They initially said there was nothing wrong with the car and that it was safe to drive. I reported it to Honda corporate and they have not gotten back—triaged as level 1 incident due to severity.Read more

I am filing a formal safety complaint regarding my 2017 Ram 1500. The Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) module has been non-functional for approximately one year. I have been informed the replacement part has been on national backorder for nearly two years, with no clear timeline for repair. The ABS system is a critical safety component designed to prevent wheel lock-up, maintain steering control du
... ring emergency braking, and reduce stopping distances in wet or icy conditions. Without a functioning ABS module, the vehicle is at increased risk of skidding, loss of steering control, and extended stopping distances. In a full-size pickup truck, this creates a substantial risk of serious injury or death to occupants and others on the road. Additionally, related systems such as traction control and electronic stability control may be compromised. Online owner forums indicate this is an ongoing issue affecting many Stellantis-built vehicles, including Ram 1500 models. While recalls have been issued for other model years for braking-related defects, no recall has been issued for the 2017 model year despite similar failures. It is unacceptable for a manufacturer to leave owners operating vehicles with a known safety defect while critical braking components remain unavailable for extended periods. If a safety system cannot be repaired within a reasonable timeframe, regulatory intervention is warranted. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this matter and determine whether a recall is necessary. Should an accident, injury, or fatality occur due to this unresolved ABS defect, the manufacturer should be held accountable.Read more

Hello! I have had my 2019 RAM 1500 for 5 years now. I have called RamCare many times trying to get my problems resolved and they just keep saying my truck is not under the recalls. Both have recall bulletins out that my truck 100% falls under, but for some reason, the recalls aren't attached to my VIN. I have called the dealer a few different times trying to get this resolved and they have still be unable to get them done. The dealership service managers have even told.me that my truck should DEFINITELY be under the two recalls and they dont understand why they aren't. I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars the last couple years getting all kinds of things fixed on my truck AND I actually just dropped my truck off this evening to get new manifolds installed tomorrow! This is the SECOND time that I have had to get this done because the Mopar manifolds are junk and keep cracking! I just don't understand why RamCare can't just attached my VIN to the recalls so I can get them fixed like they should. The dealrrship even said they should! While driving at highway speeds, a warning light appeared as well as an alert indicating the car was limited to no more than 4000rpm. After coming to a stop, a strong smell of gasoline was noticed in the passenger compartment. Continued driving home uneventfully but the strong smell of gas persisted. The next day I drove the car to a mechanic. Their inspection notes the following: The technician
... verified the customer concern of a fuel smell. He performed a fault scan, finding codes for low fuel pressure. He inspected the vehicle, finding a major fuel leak under the intake manifold, most likely from a cracked fuel rail. The system is supposed to operate at 125 bar of fuel pressure, but is currently at 9-11 bar. The high pressure fuel pump is operating at 100% duty cycle, which means it has overheated and been damaged. Metal shavings from the fuel pump then ends up inside of the injectors, ruining them. The low pressure fuel pump may be ok, but it is unclear at this time. **RECOMMEND REPLACING FUEL RAIL, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, INJECTORS WITH SEALS, AND PRESSURE SENSOR **MAY NEED LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP They also noted that the leaking fuel could cause a fire hazard. The fact that this fuel leak happened at only 98,750 miles and that the car continued to be drivable with fuel spraying all over the engine compartment is extremely concerning.Read more

The vehicle has twice displayed a “Service High Voltage System” warning followed by “Reduced Acceleration – Drive With Care.” When this occurs, the vehicle enters a reduced-power (turtle) mode that severely limits acceleration. Cabin heat also stopped working, and the vehicle would not charge beyond approximately 25%, restricting driving range. OnStar diagnostics reported a critical erro
... r. The vehicle and diagnostic history are available for inspection upon request. The first incident occurred while driving around town. Although I was close to home, the reduced acceleration created concern because the vehicle could not respond normally to traffic. The second incident was significantly more dangerous and occurred in heavy traffic and on the freeway about 40 miles from home during heavy rain. The limited acceleration made merging and maintaining a safe traffic speed difficult, placing myself and others at risk. I have only been able to get the dealer to take the vehicle in one time, specifically for this issue, and that was because the warning lights were still on at arrival. Staff observed the warnings at check-in, but by the time the vehicle reached the service area, the lights had cleared. The dealer stated they could not perform repairs without active warnings, though stored codes reportedly indicated a low-voltage condition. Additionally, a clicking noise from the wheel area began about 1,500 miles ago and occurs consistently when turning, similar to a CV axle concern.
