GM documented the issue with Document ID 6691954 #PIT6203: Headlamp or DRL Flicker or Flash (July 16, 2024). Hazards include the possible signs of headlight catastrophic failure rendering the driver unable to see the road and surrounding vehicles as well as other drivers being unable to see you that could result in injury or death. Vehicles that are being trailed when the flickering occurs interpret the action as being indicated to rush and make way for the approaching vehicle resulting in road rage actions such as brake checking or other forms of violence that can result in injury or death. Pedestrians may interpret the flicker as the driver yielding to them resulting in the pedestrian entering the path of a moving vehicle resulting in injury or death. Oncoming drivers that are being flashed from the flicker are distracted or blinded in a way that could result in injury or death. Upon exiting the vehicle, the rear tire was tilted in at a 45 degree angle and the control arm was broken open and a 1.25 inch piece of the control arm was on the road. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The suspension failed at low speed (~20 mph) and in little to no traffic, with no option to move the vehicle to a safer area. Had the failure occurred at any other time (higher speeds, heavier traffic), the danger to life would have been catastrophic. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem is evident in the broken component dangling from the under side of the vehicle. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The Tesla Service Center - Salem has inspected the issue and stated that they do not have the capability of fixing the issue and that the issue is due to a collision. My Insurance has assessed the issue and determined they will not cover the issue as there was no collision involved in the damage. The Nissan Frontier (and perhaps other Nissan vehicles employing the same system) equipped with the 'Intelligent Cruise Control' (ICC) exhibits dangerous behavior when a followed vehicle comes to a complete stop with ICC enabled. When this occurs, the Nissan will come to a complete stop, then a warning chime will sound and the vehicle will immediately start moving quickly forward. Since the ICC
... brings the vehicle to a stop very close to the followed vehicle, if the driver is thinking the ICC will hold the vehicle in a stationary position, it is possible that this behavior could result in the Nissan rear-ending the followed vehicle. This is the result of a flaw in the design of the Nissan Intelligent Cruise Control that releases the brake with little warning when the traffic in front of the vehicle is stopped. A proper design would hold the brake until some manual driver action is taken such as physically pressing the accelerator or the brake. My personal experience was that I was on an Interstate freeway in very slow traffic. This was the first time I had the ICC enabled in slow and go traffic. It was working fine and, when the traffic came to a complete stop, it properly stopped behind the vehicle in front of me. Then, to my shock, my Nissan beeped and started to accelerate forward nearly rear-ending the vehicle in front of me. Luckily, I was able to press the brake in time to avoid a collision, but this is a flawed design and represents an unnecessary danger to the Nissan as well as followed vehicles.Read more

Toyota has a Customer Support Program for white Toyota vehicles with peeling or chipping paint. The program covers vehicles in Blizzard Pearl or Super White that are within 10 years of their production date. The Tacoma is not listed on that recall. However, I am experiencing the very same issue with my Toyota. I took it to the local Toyota dealer and they confirmed the issue.

The steering system failed as I was about to begin backing up. A service light came on to service power steering. I no longer had any power assist to turn the wheel and it was nearly impossible to turn enough to get out of the traffic way. No fix has been performed yet.
