My family has 2 Ford SUVs. A 2017 ford escape and a 2018 Ford Flex. The 2017 Ford Escape started having an issue a couple years ago regarding moisture/water seeping into the tail lights/brake lights panels. Our cars have never had rear damage or hit anything that would cause them to be susceptible to water leaking in. It has to be something that happened over time. When you lift up the trunk gate,
... if you push the trunk up high enough, you can get most of the water to come out. Well, during the rainy seasons the water builds up quickly and it caused the LED brake light to go out. The panel piece costs about $400 and to get it fixed at the local ford dealership was a little over $700 a year or so ago. Well, the same thing happened to the other side and it went out as well. Over the last 3 years since the problem started, my wife and i have been more aware of condensation/moisture buildup in taillights and have noticed a lot of fords with the same problem. Our flex has a similar less severe problem where the taillights form condensation in them but they later dry up. Water hasnt gotten through, yet. Because we have noticed so many other ford SUVs with this same moisture problem in the taillights, i wanted to take the time for my first time ever, trying to see if a recall petition could be started on these taillights that are not properly blocking water from getting in. If it was just a simple lightbulb replacement that would be one thing, but because ford installed LED panel lights, they are incredibly expensive to replace. If just our city has a lot of cars with similar problems just on Ford SuVs, i have to imagine there are thousands more across the country. Thank you for your time reading this, and hopefully looking into it. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

When parked on a slope, driver attempted to back SUV out of parking space. Before starting car, with key inserted, ignition on and foot on brake, driver attempted to remove gearshift from park. Car drifted backward rapidly and uncontrollably. The brakes completely failed even with foot on brake. The car was a hazard to anyone in its path and could not be stopped. The emergency brake was att
... empted but failed to stop the car. Power steering failed. Gearshift could not be put back into park. SUV crashed heavily into a sign protecting the gas pump, but auto suffered major damage: REAR WRAP AROUND BUMPER, ENTIRE POWER LIFT DOOR, AND FRAME, were included in the damage. Driver was the wife of a couple. Very importantly, the husband had experienced the exact same uncontrollable roll-back in the same vehicle at the same place a few weeks earlier, but somehow missed the gas pump and sign. At that time, the car was uncontrollable and caused panic for both drivers in separate incidents. THAT'S NOT ALL--of key importance was a conversation we--as a couple--had with the salesman and the dealership's lead mechanic when the auto was purchased in 2017. We pointed out that when backing out of a space on a slight downslope and changing gears, the car drifted backwards uncontrollably a number of feet--at least three to six feet. At that time in 2027, we told them we did not like this feature, and it could be a danger to children playing in the driveway. They said that the manufacturers' engineering department knew about this. And were making improvements. Subsequently we investigated this engineering/design fault online, discussed it again with the dealership, then dropped the issue. THE BOTTOM LINE: THIS SEEMS TO US TO BE A GENUINE MANUFACTURING FAULT. WE BOTH EXPERIENCED THIS UNCONTROLLABLE DRIFT BACK WHEN ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE THE CAR. IT IS FRIGHTENENING AND DANGEROUS TO BE IN A VEHICLE WEIGHING TONS WITHOUT ANY ABILITY TO CONTROL IT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE.Read more

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to formally address the serious issues surrounding my 2021 Cadillac Escalade, VIN [XXX] [XXX] , which have been exacerbated by misleading communications and inaction from Lindsay Cadillac in Alexandria, VA. This situation has led to significant inconvenience and financial strain. On September 4, 2024, the vehicle was delivered to your dealership due to water leakage ca
... using mold damage between the “B” and “C” pillars. Upon arrival, we were erroneously informed that the warranty had expired. It was not until September 15, 2024, after correcting this with Service Consultant Donna Wozniak, that it was acknowledged the warranty is valid through 2025. Despite clear signs of warranty-covered issues, the explanations provided by staff, suggesting the damage could be from towing or previous beach trips, are not only implausible but appear to be intentional diversions. The vehicle has never been used to tow nor has it been submerged in water, making these justifications unacceptable. The lack of immediate remediation upon the vehicle’s drop-off led to severe mold growth, a situation Mr. Sergio Desdunes has used to unjustly refuse warranty coverage, instead advising me to seek unwarranted insurance claims. Moreover, a recent disclosure by my insurance company highlighted a NHTSA service bulletin [XXX] ), initially recognized by Ms. Wozniak but subsequently dismissed by Mr. Desdunes. This deceptive handling suggests an attempt to avoid responsibility for the known defect. This culmination of neglect by Lindsay Cadillac in Alexandria dealership, notably the misuse of the mold condition as a reason to deny warranty obligations, underscores a grave lapse in service integrity and accountability. This conduct is unacceptable and compels me to seek further actions to resolve these issues effectively. Multiple issues that are safety concerns. 1. The lane mitigation system or forward collision warning system. These has been a constant problem from date of purchase. A. repeated warning flashes on dash when driving on any type of road with a slight curve or a standard turn, also two lane roads causes terrible warning on the dash as well. Very distracting! 2. The adaptive cruise control performs
... a hard brake/ing when another driver enters into my lane (in front of me) which causes other drivers entering into or following me to also make evasive maneuvers to avoid hitting my vehicle. People think I'm brake checking them. Constant problem and is a serious safety issue. 3. This is also a huge problem and can cause the police to be citing me for a distracted driver violation. My infotainment system has connectivity issue and is very distracting which is a safety issue. example: If I can get my phone connected correctly (constant connectivity issues typically at start up) while driving the infotainment system disconnects randomly and typically will not reconnect unless I stop my vehicle and turn it off so to reset the system. I am a CDL driver and touching or operating an electronic device (cell phone) will cause me to be cited by the police department, this has distracting me regularly. Honda is unwilling to do a software update to remedy these problems and I am gracefully asking for your help. We have spent 46K on a vehicle so we can have these safety features and this vehicle as been the opposite of safe. Super distracting and stressful to drive. The part that failed was the cooling fan. According to a litany of Google searches, and from a few dealerships, Nissan has known for years about faulty cooling fans and has done nothing about it. My cooling fan went out last night and sprayed coolant everywhere. Not only did the coolant become gaseous as it burned against the hot engine, this poses a huge safety issue as it can cause a vehicle to
... stall on the highway and become a safety hazard in the event that other vehicles ram into the stalled vehicle, and vice versa. This problem has been confirmed as an issue by the dealership that I go to and yet Nissan has refused to do anything about it. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lamps or signs, until it actually happened and then the check engine light came on. By then it was too late. This issue can cause problems if someone is driving on the highway and are none the wiser. After doing some research, there were class action lawsuits against a few 2013-2017 models of Nissan vehicles, but not for anything beyond that. Confirmed by the dealer, these issues are well known and could be fixed with a recall. Thankfully, my car was parked at the time of the incident, right before I started on a 45 minute drive back home from where I was at. I live in the Chicagoland area, where traffic tends to be high and had it happened on the highway, it could’ve caused an even bigger issue to those around me.Read more

I am an Engineer in several capacities (Electronic, Mechanical, Automotive) and have studied motor vehicle fluids and lubricants in chemical and physical properties details. 2020 Ford 250 TRUCK, not light passenger veicle. A Ford Dealer, Ted Russell Parkside, 9925 Parkside Dr in Knoxville TN, sold me the WRONG POWER STEERING FLUID FOR THIS COMMERCIAL VEHICLE (TRUCK). Invoice [XXX] dated 10/02/20
... 24. The purpose was routine maintenance on a nearly new truck. They sold me passenger CAR Power Steering (PS) fluid, not the correct Motocraft Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) : 1. ) as clearly specified on page 367 of the vehicles Owners Manual 2.) as obvious by looking at the dark red fluid, its obviously Ford ATF I took the steering fluid back to this Ford Dealer who blamed the mistake on a computer printout, which is a false excuse considering point 1.) above. The Parts Manager tried to blame me for the mistake stating I hadnt supplied the vehicles VIN number so they could look up the correct fluid. That was a deliberate LIE as: 1.) The Owner can find the correct fluid without knowing VIN as in 1.) above 2.) The Dealers Parts Employee neither asked for the VIN nor went out to get it as the vehicle was on their parking lot at the time of sale, 3.) An attempt at Blaming the Victim (me) which is a deliberate deceptive tactic Replacing the steering fluid in this heavy truck with the wrong, passenger car fluid, will result in fluid failure because normal PS fluid does not have the high pressure additive chemicals that are in the correct ATF. The wrong fluid will not lubricate the steering pump or rack in operation, especially at heavy loads, and cause excessive metal-to-metal wear and probably longer term steering failure which can result in accident or death. This further could be a deliberate fraud, as the un-knowing vehicle Owner would see system failure at some time in the future without being able to link the steering failure to installing the wrong fluid.
