MY CAR SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF COOLANT AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I WAS DRIVING AND SUDDENLY A PLUME OF SMOKE APPEARED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. I THOUGHT THAT MY ENGINE HAD BLOWN AND I PULLED THE CAR OFF OF THE ROAD. TURNS OUT THAT SMOKE WAS ACTUALLY STEAM! I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE WATER CONSOLE FITTINGS HAVING BLOWN OUT. THEY EXPLAINED TO M
... E THAT THESE FITTINGS WERE HELD INTO THE CONSOLE WITH AN EPOXY FROM THE MANUFACTURER, AND THAT THE EPOXY EVENTUALLY FAILS. FORTUNATELY, I WAS GOING STRAIGHT WHEN THE COOLANT ESCAPED OR THE RESULT MIGHT HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. THE SHOP REPAIRED MY CONSOLE BY REPLACING THE FITTINGS AND ALUMINUM WELDING THEM IN PLACE SO THEY COULD NOT FAIL AGAIN. THEY HAD TO LOWER THE ENGINE TO DO THIS. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE A COUPLE OF OTHER FITTINGS THAT WERE SIMILARLY EPOXIED IN PLACE ON THE TOP OF THE ENGINE THAT SHOULD BE WELDED TOO. THEY SAID THEIR EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN THAT FAILURES OF THOSE UPPER ENGINE FITTINGS HAVE BEEN LESS COMMON. I OPTED TO NOT HAVE THOSE FITTING WELDED AT THAT TIME AS THE SHOP WOULD HAVE HAD TO COMPLETELY REMOVE THE ENGINE AT CONSIDERABLE ADDITIONAL EXPENSE. FIRST I NOTICED A BURST OF WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE REAR, AND AFTER THAT, ENGINE TEMPERATURE START TO GO UP. SINCE I HAVE VERY CLOSE TO HOME, I JUST CRUISE BACK. *TR AFTER INSPECTION AT MECHANIC, COOLANT HOSE HAS FLY OFF ITSELF AND CAUSING ALL THE ENGINE COOLANT LOST. REPAIRING IT COSTS ME 5000+ AS IT REQUIRES DROPPING THE ENGINE, MANY HOURS OF LABOR AND 2 WEEKS WITHOUT THE CAR.

PORSCHE DENIES ANY FAULTY OR SUB-STANDARD MATERIAL THAT WAS USED IN A CRITICAL COMPONENT OF HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE. IN ORDER FOR ME TO FIX THIS, I HAVE TO PAY MY PORSCHE MECHANIC TO REMOVE THE ENGINE, FIND THE COOLANT LINES, REPLACE ALL OF THE HOSES WITH METAL PIPE LINES, WELD THEM, THEN PUT IT BACK IN THE ENGINE BAY. I FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS OUT OF POCKET FOR SAFETY OF MYSELF OR OTHERS IN PUBLIC ROAD. PURCHASED THE CAR BRAND NEW ON (2/4/08) WITH ONLY 24 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. COMPUTER CONTROL UNIT WAS REPLACED AT LEAST 10 SEPARATE TIMES, AS THIS CAR MAY HAVE HAD SOFTWARE VIRUS & OR AN ELECTRICAL SHORTAGE. THE DEALERSHIP SEEMS NOT TO NOT KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY PROGRAM THIS CAR, AS THEY CLAIMED THAT THE CAR WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP ON (3/7/13) AFTER BEING IN THEIR SHOP FOR 37 DAYS SINCE THE 11TH VISIT BEGINNING ON (1/24/13). LESS THAN 12 MILES LATER, I HAD TO RETURN THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE 12TH TIME ON (3/7/13), BECAUSE THE SPARE KEY WHICH THEY HAD PROGRAMMED WE SUSPECT MAY HAVE HAD OLD SOFTWARE WHICH CORRUPTED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THIS PROBLEM AGAIN CAUSED THE MIRRORS TO MOVE IN ALL KIND OF DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS, THUS CAUSING A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WHEN DRIVING OR OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THEY FINALLY ORDERED ANOTHER COMPUTER REPLACEMENT & 2 NEW KEYS WHICH THEY PROGRAMMED SUCCESSFULLY WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEMS. I WAS DRIVING ALONG IN MY RECENTLY PURCHASED PORSCHE 944, AND SUDDENLY THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BURST INTO FLAMES WITHOUT ANY WARNING.
