DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55-60 MPH), ATTEMPTED TO DOWNSHIFT DUE TO TRAFFIC AND THE MANUAL GEAR SHIFT LEVER DID NOT RESPOND. IT WAS COMPLETELY LIMP AND SEEMED DISCONNECTED FROM THE SHIFTING ACTION. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I NOTICED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE PORSCHE CAYMAN, SO I'M REPORTING THIS AS IT POSES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD FOR DRIVERS OF THE VEHICLE AND THOSE AROUND THEM WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS. OBVIOUSLY NOT BEING ABLE TO SHIFT INTO DIFFERENT GEARS WHILE IN ANY SORT OF TRAFFIC CREATES A RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH. THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS APPARENTLY DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT IT. DURING TURNING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING WILL SOMETIMES "LOCK" OR "JAM". IT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AS A FAILED STEERING COUPLER, MANUFACTURER'S PART NUMBER 944 347 027 01 - DRIVE SHAFT. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BRUTE FORCE THE STEERING. A WOMAN WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CORRECT THE SITUATION, I MY HUMBLE OPINION. NO ACCIDENT HAS RESULTED. THE STEERING COUPLER, MANUFACTURER'S PART NUMBER 944 347 027 01 - DRIVE SHAFT, HAS FAILED. DURING A VEHICLE INSPECTION IT WAS NOTED THAT THE CARDAN JOINT IS LOOSE AND COULD CAUSE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AS IT HAS ON MY OTHER 944. NO ACCIDENT HAS RESULTED. "TAKATA RECALL" CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER BOLT PIN BROKE OFF AND CAMSHAFT CAME A PART. INCIDENT HAPPENED ON FREEWAY. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOOK A PART THE ENGINE AND FOUND A BUNCH OF METAL IN THE OIL PAN. THE ENTIRE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE ALLOWS YOU TO BE LOCKED INSIDE. AFTER DRIVING IF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER OPEN THEIR DOORS THEN THE LOCK BUTTON IS HIT ON THE KEY (WHILE THE DOORS ARE STILL OPEN), THEN THE DOORS ARE CLOSED ANYONE INSIDE IN UNABLE TO UNLOCK ANY DOORS, EVEN WHEN HITTING THE UNLOCK BUTTON INSIDE THE VEHICLE LOCATED ON THE DOOR. A US BORDER PATROL SUV CAME UPON THE SCENE AND CALLED VT STATE POLICE. THE BORDER PATROL DRIVER TRAVELLED DOWN LINDSAY RD. TO SEE THE EXTENT OF THE ITEMS AND RETURNED REPORTING ITEMS WERE ON THE ROAD FOR APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE TO WHERE IT TURNS ONTO ORRWOOD DRIVE. PHONE CALLS TO PORSCHE SELLING DEALER & PORSCHE OF AMERICA RESULTED IN DENIALS THAT ANY OTHER MALFUNCTIONS OF THIS NATURE TOOK PLACE WITH OTHER 2015 PORSCHE CAYENNE OWNERS. THERE WERE OTHER ELECTRICAL FAULTS THAT WERE ALSO TAKING PLACE THAT DAY INCLUDING FALSE WARNING OF DEFLATED TIRE, A WARNING THAT THE RIGHT REAR TAILLIGHT WAS DEFECTIVE, AND NUMEROUS NAVIGATION FUNCTIONALITY FAULTS EXISTED. WHEN RETIRING FOR THE EVENING, 6-8 DASHBOARD LIGHTS DID NOT TURN OFF, WHICH WAS NOT NORMAL, DESPITE THE KEY BEING OFF AND OUT, AND THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH TURNED OFF.
