CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER BOLTS FAILED... VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING, INCLUDING BRAKING SYSTEM AND POWER STEERING. PORSCHE RECALLED SOME 2011S, BUT NO 2012 WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE KEPT THE FAULTY PARTS WHICH MATCH PART NUMBER WITH KNOWN DEFECT. PORSCHE WOULD NOT HONOR GOODWILL OR ANY DISCOUNT, EVEN WITH PROOF OF MATCHING NUMBERS PER THE MANUFACTURER.

FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CAUSED LOSS OF POWER. VEHICLE DRIVEN TO PORSCHE DEALER WHO WAS TOO BUSY TO DO A SCAN FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK AND SENT ME AWAY ON A 65 MPH HIGHWAY. LATE 2010 TO EARLY 2012 PORSCHE CAYENNE VEHICLES WITH V8 ENGINES HAVE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH BOLTS THAT HOLD THE CAMSHAFT ADJUSTERS. THE WEAK BOLTS IN QUESTION ARE MADE OF ALUMINUM AND HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING FAILURES WHERE THEY SHEER OFF, CAUSING CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. ... T. PORSCHE IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WAS FORCED TO RECALL ALL THE AFFECTED VEHICLES IN CHINA BY THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT, BUT HAS SO FAR AVOIDED RECALLING THE AFFECTED VEHICLES IN THE US. THE NECESSARY REPAIRS INVOLVE REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE BOLTS WITH STEEL ONES. PORSCHE NO LONGER USES THE DEFECTIVE BOLTS IN THEIR V8 ENGINES BUILT AFTER 2012. IN 2012 AND 2103, THE 997-1 WAS BROUGHT TO TWO DEALERS AND THEY TESTED ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, BUT DID NOT RECOMMEND ANY MAINTENANCE ON THIS BATTERY CONNECTOR NOR MALE TERMINAL IN FIREWALL. ON ARRIVING AFTER THE HOLIDAYS, 997-1 FAILED TO START, TOW OPERATOR STARTED, AND BY MOVEMENT IN THE RED BATTERY CABLE THE TERMINAL MADE A LOW VOLTAGE CONNECTION. WHEN THE PCA SENIOR TURBO TECH FOUND IN 5 MINUTES THE ISSUE AND A FIRE COULD HAVE OCCURRED. HE CLEANED THE MALE TERMINAL LUG, THAT WAS RUSTED TO THE QUICK RELEASE FEMALE END OF THE RED BATTERY CABLE AND THEN INSPECTED THE QUICK CONNECT END (RED QUICK RELEASE LEVER) AND FOUND THAT THE INSIDE OF THE FEMALE CONNECTED TO HAVE BEEN ARC WELDED (HIGH AMPERAGE RESTRICTION) HAD DAMAGES ALL INTERIOR CONNECTOR SURFACES. I EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY 2013 CAYENNE S THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY INVESTIGATED (PE13-009) BY THE NHTSA IN THE PORSCHE 911. WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THE COOLANT HOSE COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE HOUSING CAUSING THE CAR TO RAPIDLY OVERHEAT WITHOUT WARNING. EXCESSIVE SMOKE FORCED MY WIFE TO PULL OVER AND TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITH 2 SMALL CHILDREN IN AN UNSAFE AREA OF THE HIGH
... WAY. A PORSCHE SERVICE FACILITY DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE COMPONENT AT A COST OF $5,343.56. THE VEHICLE WAS 4.5 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME OF THE REPAIR. IN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE I FOUND NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND FOUND A RESPONSE FROM PORSCHE RELATING TO PE13-009 DATED 9/17/2013 (ATTACHED). IN PORSCHE'S RESPONSE TO QUESTION 10, THEY CLAIM THAT THE ADHESIVE APPLICATION WAS AUTOMATED AND THERE WERE NO FURTHER MODIFICATIONS OR CHANGES PLANNED. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THEY SUBSEQUENTLY BEGAN THREADING THE PART IN QUESTION INSTEAD OF SIMPLY USING ADHESIVES. IN RESPONSE TO QUESTION 13C PORSCHE LISTED ONLY 2011 TO 2014 CAYENNE MODELS THAT USE A SIMILAR COOLANT PIPE CONNECTION METHOD (ADHESIVE) HOWEVER IT APPEARS THE CAYENNE GOING BACK AS FAR AS 2007 HAS A SIMILAR CONNECTION BASED ON INTERNET COMPLAINTS. IN RESPONSE TO QUESTION 14A PORSCHE LISTS RACETRACK USE AND LOW OR NON APPROVED COOLANT AS CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. IN MY SITUATION THE CAR IS USED MORE AS A MINIVAN THAN A RACE CAR. IT HAS BEEN SERVICED AT ALL RECOMMENDED INTERVALS AND ONLY AT PORSCHE SERVICE LOCATIONS. FINALLY I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT THE CAYENNE AND PANAMERA ARE BOTH FRONT ENGINE VEHICLES AS COMPARED TO THE 911 THAT WAS INITIALLY INVESTIGATED RAISING NEW CONCERNS ABOUT THE LOSS OF TRACTION FROM THE LEAKAGE LOCATION. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ONLINE, THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH PORSCHE PANAMERA, EVEN THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP (PORSCHE OF ORLANDO) TOLD ME THIS. DUE TO THIS ISSUE, THE CAR, WHILE MY SON WAS DRIVING, ESSENTIALLY STOPPED WORKING

PORSCHE ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS AND A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH WILL DISPLAY MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF IDENTICAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE'S ENGINE BUT PORSCHE IS NEGLIGENT BY REFUSING TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THE VEHICLES SUSCEPTIBLE TO THIS PROBLEM. NOT ONLY IS THIS A HAZARD, PORSCHE REFUSES TO ISSUE REPARATIONS TO OWNERS AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM LEAVING PEOPLE LIKE ME OUT OF WARRANTY AND A CAR AS THE ONLY SOLUTION IS A COMPLETE ENGINE REPLACEMENT WHICH COST MORE THAN THE CAR IS WORTH. IT APPEARS THAT PORSCHE CAYENNES AND PANAMERAS MANUFACTURED DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD OUR CAR WAS MADE WERE RECALLED IN CHINA FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE-ALUMINUM CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER BOLTS SHEARING OFF INTO THE ENGINE AND CAUSING TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE. THIS CAR WAS OUT OF THE PORSCHE 4 YEAR/50K WARRANTY PERIOD. I NOTIFIED PORSCHE NORTH AMERICA OF THIS INCIDENT AND THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE.
