WHILE DRIVING WITH MY WIFE AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AFTER MAKING A RIGHT TURN IN THE LANE CLOSET TO THE CURB AT NIGHT WE HEARD A VERY LOUD BANG THAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT. I PULLED OVER ABOUT TWO BLOCKS AWAY AND NOTICED MY PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR WAS DESTROYED AND THE COVER WAS MISSING AS WELL AS THE MIRROR. THE MIRROR WAS ROTATED INWARDS TOWARD THE PASSENGER WINDOW. WE CALLED THE HIGHWAY PATROL
... AND RETURNED TO WHERE WE HEARD THE EXPLOSION. ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATE THE SHERIFFS ARRIVED. WE FOUND THE MIRROR AND THE MISSING COVER ON THE SIDEWALK. GLASS FROM THE MIRROR WAS EMBEDDED IN THE PASSENGER WINDOW AND THE MIRROR HAD ROTATED INWARDS. WE WALKED THE STREET AND COULD NOT FIND ANY ROCKS OR ITEMS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN THROWN UP BY THE CAR. THE OUTSIDE OF THE MIRROR CASE HAS LITTLE OR NO DAMAGE, EXCEPT HITTING THE SIDEWALK. IT APPEARED THAT THE MIRROR HAD EXPLODED. I GOOGLED "EXPLODED PASSENGER MIRRORS" ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THIS IS A MORE COMMON PROBLEM THAN EXPECTED MAINLY ON HEATED MIRRORS. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE SITE AS WELL AS THE MIRROR DAMAGE. SINCE I WAS IN THE LAND CLOSEST TO THE CURB IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE THAT ANOTHER CARE SIDESWIPED THE MIRROR. ALSO THE ONLY DAMAGE WAS TO THE MIRROR AND WHERE ITHE COVER HIT THE CAR.Read more

MY WIFE RECENTLY HAD A VERY TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE WHILE DRIVING HOME IN OUR 2015 MACAN S THIS PAST WEEKEND. AFTER RUNNING ERRANDS, SHE WAS DRIVING HOME AND THE BRAKES FAILED ON OUR MACAN. THERE WAS NO PRESSURE IN THE BRAKE LINES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO JUST SLOW DOWN, NOT EVEN STOP. IF SHE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DIFFERENT SITUATION ESPECIALLY IF OUR 3YR OLD WAS IN THE CAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL PORSCHE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM REVIEW WHAT CAUSED THIS FAILURE AS THE CAR WAS UNDRIVEABLE. AFTER THE TECHNICIAN REVIEWED THE CAR, THEY SENT ME A VIDEO SHOWING THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS BEING PINCHED OR SOMEHOW RUBBING AGAINST WHAT LOOKS LIKE THE BOLT HOLDING THE FRONT PASSENGER SHOCK. I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE A CLIP HAD POPPED CAUSING THE HOSE TO COME LOOSE BUT I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE IS NO CLIP HOLDING THE LINE IN PLACE. THE LINE LOOKS TAUGHT ENOUGH WHERE IT SHOULD NOT RUB AGAINST ANYTHING BUT HAS ENOUGH SLACK TO ALLOW THE WHEEL TO TURN LEFT AND RIGHT. IF THIS IS TRUE, HOW COULD THE LINE HAVE BEEN PINCHED OR IS THIS A VERY SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT ALLOWS THE BRAKE LINE TO RUB AND WEAR AGAINST THE SHOCK BOLT? THE LEFT SIDE DOOR AIRBAG OPENED UP. MY LEFT ARM AND SIDE OF MY BODY GOT ALL BRUISED UP AND SORE FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, BECAUSE OF THE CAR AND AIRBAG IMPACT. THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WENT OVER THE CURB AND DID NOT HAVE ANY DAMAGE. THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WENT BARELY OVER THE CURB AND THE LOWER ARM BROKE. THE DRIVER FRONT WHEEL DID NOT GO OVER THE CURB AND UPON THE IMPACT BROKE MY STEERING ARM AND THE RIM OUTER SIDE ON AROUND THE RIM BROKE AT DIFFERENT PLACES. THE DRIVER REAR TIRE NEVER MADE IT OVER THE CURB. IT IMPACTED THE CURB SO HARD THE WHOLE WHEEL CAME OFF AND LAID ON THE GROUND FACING DOWN; THE RIM WAS BADLY BENT AND ONE SPOKE BROKEN. THE HALF SHAFT CAME COMPLETELY OUT AND WAS LAYING DOWN ON THE GROUND AND ALL THE OTHER MECHANICAL COMPONENTS WERE BROKEN AND ALL THE OIL LEAKED OUT. THIS IS A MIDSECTION REAR WHEEL CAR. I APPLIED THE BRAKES LIGHTLY AND IT CAME DOWN ON THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE, THEN STARTED TO PULLING ME TO THE RIGHT IMMEDIATELY. I TURNED LEFT TO CORRECT AND THE FRONT TIRES LOST TRACTION AND SO THE REAR TIRES LOST TRACTION IMMEDIATELY. THE CAR SPUN AROUND TWICE AND SIDESWIPED AGAINST THE CURB ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE FRONT ENDED UP FACING EASTWARDLY, JUST THE SAME WAY AS I WAS HEADING. I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE CAR. THE LEFT SIDE DOOR AIRBAG OPENED UP. MY LEFT ARM AND SIDE OF MY BODY GOT ALL BRUISED UP AND SORE FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, BECAUSE OF THE CAR AND AIRBAG IMPACT. THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WENT OVER THE CURB AND DID NOT HAVE ANY DAMAGE. THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WENT BARELY OVER THE CURB AND THE LOWER ARM BROKE. THE DRIVER FRONT WHEEL DID NOT GO OVER THE CURB AND UPON THE IMPACT BROKE MY STEERING ARM AND THE RIM OUTER SIDE ON AROUND THE RIM BROKE AT DIFFERENT PLACES. THE DRIVER REAR TIRE NEVER MADE IT OVER THE CURB. IT IMPACTED THE CURB SO HARD THE WHOLE WHEEL CAME OFF AND LAID ON THE GROUND FACING DOWN; THE RIM WAS BADLY BENT AND ONE SPOKE BROKEN. THE HALF SHAFT CAME COMPLETELY OUT AND WAS LAYING DOWN ON THE GROUND AND ALL THE OTHER MECHANICAL COMPONENTS WERE BROKEN AND ALL THE OIL LEAKED OUT. THIS IS A MIDSECTION REAR WHEEL CAR.
