While driving, the hood prop rod dislodged from its securing clip and fell onto the positive terminal of the battery. This caused an electrical short, which led to the rod heating up rapidly and igniting a fire under the hood. The fire damaged the headlight assembly and the surrounding trim panel, though the wiring fortunately did not catch fire. A nearby police officer was able to extinguish the
... fire before it spread further. This incident posed a serious safety risk and could have resulted in more extensive damage or injury. There were no warning lights or symptoms before the failure. The issue appears to stem from the design or failure of the clip that holds the hood prop rod in place. The vehicle has not been modified and was being driven under normal conditions. A local auto body shop inspected the vehicle afterward and confirmed that the loose prop rod made contact with the battery terminal, creating a serious fire hazard. They advised reporting this as a safety issue. The manufacturer has not yet inspected the vehicle. ... fter researching the issue, I learned this is a known problem to GM and is addressed in Service Bulletin PIT6362 released on 2 April 2025. The bulletin advises dealers not to replace hardware components as the issue stems from a software anomaly. However, there is currently no estimated timeline for a resolution. This leaves me — and presumably many others — with a an expensive investment that cannot be safely driven. Dealer is picking up the vehicle Monday June 23 but I have low confidence they know what to do. This situation is unacceptable. A total loss of vehicle instrumentation and infotainment severely compromises safety, functionality, and trust in the Chevrolet brand. It is alarming that vehicles with such a critical defect were allowed to reach customers. I had already made an appt with the Honda Dealership where I get my car serviced for an oil change a couple days before. The next day I had a family member to follow me 30 minutes away to the dealership to drop my car off. When I dropped the car off I told the service technician about the problem. Later that day the dealership's service department called to tell me that I my head gasket had blown and it would be around $4500.00 to repair. I began to ask questions as to how this could happen I had kept up with regular maintenance. The service technician begin to tell me different reasons, and I asked how when I had regular maintenance and some suggested maintenance required as well. I had my vehicle towed from the dealership to get a second opinion. The technician I took my vehicle to was authorized to work on Honda vehicles, and he asked me if I was aware of the complaints customers were having about their Honda 2018 (same model) was having about leaking coolant, cracked or blown head gaskets on cylinder 3. I told him I was not aware so I went and did research and found there were numerous complaints about the same problem I am having and Honda was not acknowledging the problem or people had the repair done which cost a couple thousand dollars only to have their cars still not working properly or getting the same malfunction lights. Sometimes however will while backing up it may sometimes switch to 360 view which is not suppose to happen while in reverse. When the camera does this, I can manually toggle the camera back on/off via the cars user interface and it will display OK and may or may not turn off again with the error message. Car has been in the shop twice before for this issue this past year because the recall issue and each time newer software, at Polestar’s insistence, was installed. Upon arriving they ran the codes and annotated the P2138 code. The next morning when the Technician checked the vehicle the computer had reset itself and everything was checking out fine, the code was still in the vehicle history . The sensor was under warranty and we inquired about replacement because the code showed failure, the dealership stated GM would not replace the part because it tested good. But I could pay to have it replaced if I paid for it. GM Service Bulletin No:074-06-04-019F clearly states they are aware of issues with this vehicle, yet I cannot get it repaired to my satisfaction It puts myself and my family under extreme danger while driving this vehicle on the freeway.Read more
