Incident date: Jul 16, 2025
I own a 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio (VIN: [XXX] ) with approximately 102,000 miles. The vehicle recently experienced an electrical issue caused by a failed ground strap — a known problem in these vehicles that is widely reported by other owners. After the vehicle became inoperable, I observed smoke and visible signs of burned or heat-damaged wiring in multiple areas under the hood, including ground
... wires not located near the main strap and crumbling insulation on the ABS wiring in the front wheel wells. The vehicle was towed to an authorized Alfa Romeo dealership, where the ground strap was replaced. However, the dealer did not inspect or document the other visibly damaged wiring, despite my specific request and description of the safety issue. They claimed the vehicle showed no error codes and was safe to drive. My concern is that the failed ground strap caused additional electrical damage to safety-critical components like the ABS system, which may result in electrical fire, loss of braking, or other failures. Alfa Romeo appears to have updated the design of the replacement ground strap (now rubber-insulated), which suggests they are aware of the issue, but they have not issued a recall or TSB. I am filing this report to document the issue and request that NHTSA investigate. I believe this is a systemic problem that affects vehicle safety, and that Alfa Romeo and its dealerships are failing to address it adequately. I started braking and the red "BRAKE" started intermittently shining. Later on, the warning, front collision, and traction control lights suddenly turned on. I cannot use cruise control now either. A quick look online shows this to be a widespread issue across many Nissan Kicks, but the dealership is saying that the issue only applies to some models of Kicks, not mine. But my issue is identica
... l to the one people online have said applied to theirs and was covered, so I think it is a more widespread issue than Nissan is letting on/admitting. This is dangerous as these systems are last-resort braking systems for emergencies, so when they are supposed to engage is precisely when you need them most (to prevent a deadly crash). Additionally, there is now a second instance of one of the side cameras going out. The first one happened at roughly ~20k miles, and now the other side at ~36k miles. This is dangerous since these cameras feed into the lane keeping and blind spot systems, as well as the parking system.Read more

While traveling on the interstate at approximately 70 mph, I pressed the accelerator pedal to increase speed. Instead of accelerating, the vehicle suddenly jerked, and the wheels locked up as though the brakes engaged on their own. I continued pressing the accelerator, but the vehicle rapidly decelerated without responding to throttle input. The most concerning part was that the brake lights did
... not illuminate while the vehicle slowed down, which created an extreme safety hazard because drivers behind me had no warning that I was slowing. A large truck traveling directly behind me nearly collided with my vehicle because the sudden deceleration was not signaled by the brake lights. This incident placed both myself and surrounding drivers in immediate danger. The vehicle is currently at the dealership service department for inspection, and I have reported this issue. At this time, the problem has not yet been confirmed or reproduced by the dealer, but the failure was unexpected, severe, and occurred without warning. Prior to the failure, the only indication was that a red wrench symbol with a lightning bolt illuminated on the dashboard. The failure itself happened suddenly with no audible or mechanical warning. The malfunction appears related to the braking system, power train, and/or speed control systems. I am requesting that this incident be fully documented and investigated as a potential safety defect, as an uncommanded deceleration at highway speeds without brake light illumination presents a serious risk of high-speed rear-end collisions.Read more

I have a 2023 Nissan Titan XD 4x4. Recently I have experienced a major malfunction with the automatic braking system. They take it for a short test drive and state everything is working properly. I explained this is a random problem and usually occurs when taking right hand curves and has caused me to lose control of the vehicle. Nothing has been done by the dealer to remedy the problem though most online forums point to a wheel speed sensor. I have also relayed that when its raining and this happens the front crash detector symbol illuminates briefly and I've shown them a picture taken from my cell phone. I feel any further driving of this vehicle puts myself, my family and other drivers at risk.Read more

My 2018 Sonata has had an oil consumption problem since 2023. We initially thought it was the oil change garage issues. Had an oil consumption study conducted by Hyundai between July -September 2024. I rented a motorcycle from EagleRider in the United States and discovered that the speedometer displayed only kilometers per hour (kph), with no miles per hour (mph). This is not just inconvenient — it is illegal under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 123, which requires that motorcycles in the U.S. display speed in mph, or both mph and kph. Because the bike was non-compliant, I wa
... s unable to reliably follow U.S. speed limits for hundreds of miles during a multi-day trip. I had to either guess at my speed or rely on a GPS phone app, which was often unreadable in sunlight and forced me to take my eyes off the road for too long. This created a constant and unnecessary safety risk. This issue is not a one-time defect but a systemic violation: EagleRider, a major rental company, is putting non-road-legal motorcycles into their U.S. rental fleet. Customers are not warned in advance, and riders are left vulnerable to tickets, accidents, and unsafe riding conditions. Renting out motorcycles that do not comply with FMVSS is a serious public safety concern. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate EagleRider’s fleet practices to ensure that no other rider is placed at risk by being issued a non-compliant motorcycle in the United StatesRead more

While charging my 2025 Nissan Ariya at an Electrify America DC fast charger, the vehicle failed to complete the charging “handoff” between the charger and the car. ... This was the third occurrence of the same system failure since purchase, despite the vehicle having only ~11,377 miles. I contacted Nissan Roadside Assistance, and the vehicle had to be towed. The service technician at the selling dealer (Findlay Nissan, Henderson, NV) stated that another 2025 Ariya was towed from the same Electrify America location one day prior for the exact same issue. I was driving on the SB 55fwy in light stop and go traffic and had my ACC w/ traffic aware system engaged. This feature I had been using on my car since I originally purchased it and paid for these safety features. When tr
... affic was not stopped it was traveling between 15-20mph. All of the sudden my dashboard lit up with error messages, audible warnings, and check engine light, all flashing and beeping at me and before I quickly glanced at the dash to the alarming warnings, I had rear ended the car in front of me. This took me by complete shock as my car had always been overly cautious about applying emergency braking in close situations. This time it did nothing. The error message said Adaptive Cruise Control sensor had failed and along with that it had disabled all of the safety features I had become accustomed to and paid extra for, including, the emergency braking and front end collision warning. This caused almost $14k in damage to my vehicle and more so potentially could have put my entire family in danger. The sensor failure caused the accident, the damage to the other car that I was traveling behind and any potential injuries from the driver of that car. I have given this same statement to my insurance company, however no one has reached out to investigate the cause of the failure, not even the dealership service center, where I had originally had my damaged car towed to so they could check and verify with their scan tools that I had a faulty sensor. Also my vehicle had just been serviced the month prior and all software was updated at Norm Reeves Volkswagen, Irvine, CA.Read more
