There were also times where the transmission would not shift gears past first gear so that pretty much made it impossible to drive anywhere. As you can imagine, this is not only a safety issue for myself and my passengers, but also to anyone else on the road. I've seen many other cases of the same issue I experienced online in many forums and I really don't know why there isn't already a recall out for this. When I had my truck serviced to fix the issue, I'm almost positive I saw a recall for the ABS system that pertained to my issue, but after it was serviced I can no longer find that recall. I received a Toyota Limited Service Campaign Program notice in 2013 about excessive corrosion on the frame. In November 2024, the following dashboard lights remained on while driving: Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) OFF, VSC TRAC and Brake Lights. I took it to Steven’s Auto Clinic in Alexandria. They found low brake fluid levels were causing the brake system failure. The brake pipes are leaking due to heavy rust. In addition, rust was destroying the under carriage. The brake system and frame would require extensive maintenance. They warned me NOT to drive the car. They refilled the brake fluid to allow me to take the car home. Reading the Complaints under Structure on the NHTSA website, dozens of customers over the years mention serious rusting on the frame of their 2001 Sequoias. I believe Toyota had a recall to replace the frame on the Tundra but never included the 2001 Sequoia even though it was built on the Tundra frame. I now have a vehicle I can’t drive, due to safety concerns, and I can’t sell, except for parts. The Sequoia should have been included in the Tundra recall. Toyota needs to be held accountable. I can provide any paperwork for my 2001 Sequoia including the Limited Service Campaign Program notice and the repair order from Stephen’s Auto Clinic if necessary. My passenger side door does not lock when pressed on the key fob with all of the other doors. The remote start does not work AT ALL. The trunk does not open when pressed on the key fob either. I was forced to use Hilton Honors points to book a hotel. Then after the next morning around 10am I was advised the tow truck was enroute to the car. I then took an Uber to Enterprise where I was able to get a rental vehicle. And made my way to the dealership that our Yukon was towed to. After speaking with the service advisor I was told they wouldn't even have a diagnosis for a couple weeks. So we proceeded to head home (with the rental breaking down and several other issues we had to overcome). After we were able to get another rental vehicle, we made it home around 2am. We returned this rental vehicle as it was not suitable for our family, and contacted GM in hopes to get a rental vehicle while our $120k vehicle is sitting in the parking lot of a dealership 8 hours from our home. Only to be told they'd allow $44/day for a rental and we would need to rent it initially and they would reimburse us after we submitted our receipts. Unfortunately $44/day does not get us anything that can accommodate our family and finances are not allowing for this at this time. So we are managing with 1 car. On 1/9, we received a call from the dealership stating our engine was locked up, non repairable and they were waiting for guidance from GM. Then on 1/23 I was then advised by my GM rep that she was transferring the case to someone else and they would advise when the new engine has shipped. The pulley "shrapnel" was thrown into the cooling system and damaging the hoses causing immediate loss of coolant. With no other indication, the low oil pressure light came on, then within two seconds I lost all power (motor shut off) and lost electronics in the car. I had to man-handle the vehicle to get it off the road without power or dash controls. Our family was stranded near the California/Nevada

I spent a fortune having the vehicle towed to a Chevy dealership (Wild West Chevrolet in Yerington, NV) where they indicated that there was a main bearing failure which caused the engine to seize. A full L87 motor replacement is required. The motor is currently on backorder with GM due to the high number of L87 engine failures.
