I NOTICED THAT BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT AXLE PINCH CLAMP CASTINGS ARE BROKEN. THIS OCCURRED EVEN THOUGH THE BIKE HAS NOT BEEN THROUGH ANY TRAUMA AND THE ONLY TIRE CHANGE AND WHEEL REMOVAL WAS DONE BY A CERTIFIED MOTO GUZZI MECHANIC. *TR

FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST THREE YEARS, VEHICLE HAS STOPPED DURING OPERATION. HAD IT TOWED TO SHOP, WAS TOLD INTERNAL FUEL LINE HAD POPPED OFF. THIS LAST TIME, WAS SOLD A NEW HOSE AND NEW CLAMPS THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON JULY 10, LEAVING MY WIFE AND I STRANDED IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE COMPLAINT IS FOR A 2007 MOTO GUZZI NORGE MOTORCYCLE WITH ~17,000 MILES. DURING THE COURSE OF ROUTINE RIDING/OPERATION IN APRIL 2011, THE RING NUT MAINTAINING TENSION ON THE PINION GEARS INTERNAL TO THE FINAL DRIVE UNIT CAME LOOSE AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY STRIPPED OF ITS THREADS. IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARD, DURING DECELERATION, SEVERE GEAR CLASH AND A HIGH-PITCHED SCREECH WAS AUDIBLE FROM THE FINAL DR

THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE DEALER (IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE) FOR EVALUATION, AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A "STAR-WASHER", OR LOCKING WASHER, HAD EITHER NOT BEEN ASSEMBLED CORRECTLY TO RETAIN THE RING NUT, OR THE WASHER HAD BEEN DAMAGED DURING THE COURSE OF NORMAL OPERATION. THE NET RESULT WAS THAT THE RING NUT WAS ABLE TO LOOSEN AND EVENTUALLY BE DAMAGED, LEADING TO A LOSS OF PRELOAD/TENSION ON THE INTERNAL PINION GEARS OF THE FINAL DRIVE UNIT. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH THE RING NUT AND STAR WASHER, AND THE MOTORCYCLE WAS DRIVEN HOME AT THE END OF MAY, 2011. ON JUNE 1, 2011, THE FAILURE REAPPEARED, MANIFESTING ITSELF IN THE SAME MANNER: SEVERE GEAR LASH AND A LOUD HIGH-PITCHED SCREECH ARE BOTH AUDIBLE FROM THE FINAL DRIVE UNIT. THE MOTORCYCLE IS NOT DRIVABLE. THEY FELT THAT THE WRONG HOSE AND CLAMPS WERE BEING USED AT THE FACTORY AND SOLD ME HIGH QUALITY CLAMPS AND SUBMERSIBLE HOSE. MY MECHANIC REPLACED (AT MY COST). MOTORCYCLE HAS QUIT TWICE WHILE DRIVING IT DUE TO FUEL LINE COMING LOSE FROM FUEL PUMP INSIDE GAS TANK. THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE, MANUFACTURER HAS NEVER OFFICIALLY ACKNOWLEDGED. THIS, BUT THE MAJORITY OF DEALERS WILL REPLACE IN-TANK FUEL LINE BEFORE THE BIKES ARE SOLD. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL LINE AND THE CLAMPS FOR THE LINE ON MY BIKE BEFORE I PICKED IT UP. MOTORCYCLE EXPERIENCES SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AS A RESULT OF FUEL LINE BECOMING DISCONNECTED FROM FUEL PUMP INSIDE FUEL TANK. THIS HAS OCCURRED TO ME TWICE; ONCE WHILE TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND AGAIN ON A SECONDARY ROAD. WHEN THIS INITIALLY HAPPENED IN JUNE 2008, THE MOTORCYCLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE PROBLEM UNDER THAT WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP ALERTED ME TO THE FACT THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM ON MOTO GUZZI MOTORCYCLES FROM 2007, AND THAT THERE HAD BEEN A FORMAL RECALL ON ANOTHER MODEL OF MOTO GUZZI, BUT NOT ON MY MODEL. I PRESUMED THE DEALER REPAIR IN JUNE 2008 WAS SUFFICIENT TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS MONTH (JUNE 2009). THE MOTORCYCLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, AND I WILL NEED TO FOOT THE BILL FOR THE REPAIR OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. I HAVE TWO SUCH VEHICLES. THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS HAVE WARPED ON BOTH VEHICLES AT 10,000 TO 12,000 MILES. ONE VEHICLE HAD ROTORS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE SECOND VEHICLE WAS REFUSED WARRANTY AS IT WAS MORE THAN TWO YEARS OLD. THE WARRANTY PERIOD WAS ADVERTISED AS THREE YEARS.
