I was at a 24 hr storage unit. It was dim & I needed to unload from the rear hatch door so I backed to the open storage unit door in its upright position as high as I could get it & stopped at a safe distance from the doorway so the car door would not catch the storage unit door. I put the vehicle in PARK to have some lighting & double checked before I got out- gear shift securely in PARK. I op
... ened the car's rear door & started unloading without overly disturbing the vehicle or causing any unnecessary movement. I had just turned my back to the car door to put down some boxes in the unit. As I turned back to the car to retrieve another item, I noticed movement. There was a rapid simultaneous series of events: I felt the rear hatch hit my nose, I heard a crash with shattering glass & I tried to jump clear. It was over in minutes . I was inside the storage unit and had to squeeze out to try to free the storage unit door. The door had fallen and gotten wedged between the rear frame of the car & behind the back wiper. I gently freed the door after much diigent effort. Once freed, the car proceeded to move forward on its own before I could access it to shut off the engine, & it eventually crashed into the opposite storage unit. I accessed the vehicle at that time & reversed away from the buildings so the car was equidistant from both buildings & facing an area where it would do minimal harm if it moved again, though I did cut off the engine. Verified vehicle was in PARK. The car had damage to the whole rear area, & damage to the driver's side bumper. Front wheels had been turned right so the car's trajectory was a wide right arc. i tried calling the rental facility manager but there was no after hours number & no answer, so I called city police who promptly arrived within minutes; one vehicle immediately drove up & I quickly punched in my gate access code for easier entry. This vehicle was followed by another white pickup who punched a code on the keypad & let himselfRead more

Vehicle exhibits a shudder/surge condition (engine flare, lack of acceleration, and/or car shake) possibly caused by poor reaction of the hydraulic pressure circuit. The CVT belt slips repeatedly when accelerating, causing a warning light to turn on with DTC P084A. The vehicle exhibits exactly the conditions described in TSB-20-23-001 and is explicitly included in the affected vehicles section
... the bulletin (2015-2020 Outlander Sport with 2.0L Engine with CVT transmission). The conditions were confirmed using Diagnostic Procedure 2 on TSB-20-23-001 by certified mechanic at Meineke Car Care Center (Lexington, SC). However, VIN was not included in the recall as confirmed by MMNA service representatives. The scope of TSB-20-23-001 does not sufficiently cover all vehicles affected by the recall condition, as Mitsubishi excluded some vehicles for undisclosed reasons. Because Mitsubishi had previously failed to trace and identify all affected vehicles in its initial recall for this unsafe condition in TSB-17-23-002, it is possible or likely that Mitsubishi failed to trace or identify all affected vehicles in TSB-20-23-001. The scope should be expanded to all vehicles with CVT transmissions in the model years listed in the bulletin, without exception.Read more

Routine service at 112 Mitsubishi Dealer/Service Center noted that my front crossbar was severely corroded and “coming apart in chunks”. They noted that this defect is known and was recalled on later model years of my car, but not my 2011. Considering it was recalled already and is the same issue, I would recommend and hope the 2011 model year can also be included in the recall. It is avail

The front hood is structurally weak, causing flexing, bouncing, and fluttering. When driving over 55 mph, you feel as though the hood is going to open up while driving. It is a very unsettling and unsafe feeling when driving on the highway. You feel as though the hood is going to open up and smash against the windshield. When driving on surface streets where there are bumps in the road, the hood m
... oves a lot. The technical bulletin by Mitsubishi Motors: TSB-21-42A-001 references a hood latch and bumper height adjustment to alleviate the hood fluttering. In reality, the complete hood assembly is unstable. The hood needs to have internal bracing, as well as under hood cross member strength and adhesion, and/or thicker gauge metal for the hood's strength. I was driving on the freeway from the dealership and noticed this. I went back to the dealership to inquire about returning the vehicle. I was informed of my rights, that they had expired after the contract and financing went through and I drove it off the sales lot. Since I am unable to return this vehicle due to this safety issue, I want to make a formal request for a solution. A flimsy hood does not seem reasonable for insurance obligation purposes. What could possibly happen after a while is metal stress fatigue cracking due to movement. A serious injury could occur if the hood was to break loose. The weather strip seal cushion gasket does not alleviate the flutter. I included photos to show where the flex occurs.Read more

I purchased the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander in 2015. In January 2018 the engine seized up while driving and was not repairable. Thankfully I was able to pull over and no one was hurt. The vehicle was only 7 years old with only 112,846 miles and I still had a loan on the vehicle for approxiamtly $10,000. The vehicle was at the time worth the cost left to pay it off. I consulted many Mitsubishi deal
... erships around the country and the only fix as a new engine for the vehicle which was an additional $10,000 and there were no engines anywhere in the country that could be found. The reason is that Mitsubishi decommissioned this Outlander model in 2013 due to the issue with the engine - essentially it was built like a snowmobile engine. The belt snapped and there was no repairing it - only replacing the entire engine. Mitsubishi knew this was an issue with this model - they decommissioned it only after 2 years on the market and they didn't issue a recall until 2018 - 5 years later! In the mean time I had found others around the coutnry with the same issue and we were all left with auto loans and no working vehicle. This is extremely poor business tactics and dishonest and very unsafe. I was lucky I was not driving on a freeway at the time when the engine seized up and the vehicle bucked like wild horse - it could have resulted in a major accident. It is dishonest to issue a recall 5 years after the company knew the vehicle had an issue and most likely all of the models had been sold or abandoned by this time so they don't have to pay for many repairs since there are not many that have lasted until 2018 to be repaired. A complaint has also been filed with the Minnesota State Attorney General. I was stuck with the $10,000 loan on a car that was now worth $0 and Mitsubishi at that time acted they had no idea what was wrong with it or why this happened. All lies.Read more
