IT NOW HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT AND DURING THOSE 37,000 MILES I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE ROTORS TURNED TWICE AND HAVE THE BRAKES PADS REPLACED THREE TIME SINCE JUNE OF 2001. CRANKSHAFT WALK. 1995 MITS. ECLIPSE 2WD TURBO. MY SON BOUGHT THIS CAR DIRECTLY FROM HAVING THE BOTTOM END REBUILT. WITHIN 200 MILES OF DRIVE TIME THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WENT OUT. THE MECHANIC THAT DID THE REBUILD SAID HE DID NOT REPLACE THE SENSOR SO NO WARRANTY. AFTER SPENDING ANOTHER 160.00 ON A NEW CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND INTERRUPTER PLATE. IT LASTED FOR APPROXIMATELY. ... T 60 MILES AN HOUR ON THE FREEWAY. IT WENT BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE CRANK BEARINGS PLATE AND SENSOR. IT ONLY TOOK HIM 8 WEEKS. WE PICKED UP THE CAR ON THURSDAY THE 20TH OF MARCH. THIS TIME IT LASTED 30 MILES AND THE PLATE IS AGAIN HITTING THE SENSOR. WE HAVE NOW PAID ALMOST 3000.00 AND THE CAR IS BACK IN THE SHOP. I HAVE READ COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CONSUMERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS NO REASON THAT THE CRANKSHAFT SHOULD BE ABLE TO WALK. THE DRIVER OF THE MONTERO IMPACTED THE REAR OF A VEHICLE AHEAD OF HER. AFTER THE IMPACT, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ALLOW THE DRIVER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP AND THE VEHICLE THEN WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND IMPACTED A UTILITY POLE. THE SECOND IMPACT WAS ON THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE MONTERO AND IN A SIMILAR MANNER THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE BROKE. I AM STILL INVESTIGATING, BUT IT APPEARS THE BRAKE LINES WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DAMAGED IF THE ATTACHMENT POINT OF THE BRAKE LINE WAS ON THE VEHICLE FRAME AND NOT ON THE INNER FENDER WELL. I HAVE A MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 2003 GTS. I PURCHASED IT IN SEPTEMBER 2002 AND IT ONLY HAS 7,000 MILES ON IT, SO IT IS FAIRLY NEW. THERE IS A LATCH BY THE FRONT SEAT TO OPEN THE TRUNK. EVER SINCE I HAD THE CAR, THE TRUNK NEVER OPENS ON THE FIRST TRY. USUALLY I HAVE TO PULL THE LATCH TWICE. REASON BEING IS THE TRUNK IS SO HEAVY WITH THE SPOILER ON IT, IT DOESN'T WANT TO POP UP. BUT MY FRIEND SIMPLY LIFTED UP ON IT AND IT CAME OFF (CONSIDERING THERE IS NO WHERE ELSE TO LIFT UP ON THE TRUNK). AFTER MY UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT AT THE MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP I PHONED MITSUBISHI TO FILE A COMPLIANT. AFTER SPEAKING TO TWO PEOPLE, THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS NOT HELPFUL WHAT SO EVER AND PRETTY MUCH TOLD ME IT WAS MY FAULT BECAUSE I SHOULD NOT USE THE SPOILER AS A HANDLE. MY FRIEND BARELY EVEN USED ANY FORCE! SINCE THE SPOILER HAD TO BE COMPLETELY TAKEN OFF TO DRIVE IT, NOW THE TRUNK JUST POPS UP WHEN THE LATCH IS PULLED IN THE FRONT BY THE SEAT. THE ENGINE STOPPED, THE VEHICLE STARTED SLOWING DOWN RAPIDLY. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER OFF THE PAVEMENT ONTO THE GRAVEL ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR. I'M WORRIED THAT MY CAR IS ABOUT TO CATCH ON FIRE. I BEGAN POURING THE WATER ONTO THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH WAS BOILING THE WATER AT THIS POINT, BUT IT SEEMED TO BE ENOUGH TO STOP THE ENGINE AREA FROM SMOKING. LATER I FOUND OUT THAT THE TRANSAXLE WAS BAD AND THAT IT COSTS $4414.29 NEW, PLUS $696.00 FOR LABOR. I ASKED IF THEY COULD GET THE TRANSAXLE REPLACED CONSIDERING THE DRIVE TRAIN HAS A 60,000-MILE WARRANTY ON IT AND MY MILEAGE IS ONLY 66,000-MILES. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID NO AND SO DID THE PERSON THAT MADE THE DECISION AFTER I CALLED MITSUBISHI. SO I AM WRITING IN HOPES THAT YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO ASSIST ME IN THIS MATTER.
