THE BLACK PAINT ON MY 1998 MITSUBISHI GALANT ES HAS WORN OFF IN AN A TYPICAL PATTERN. THE PAINT HAS COME OFF IN A GRID-LIKE FASHION - AS THOUGH A GIANT ACIDIC TIRE HAS ROLLED OVER IT. IT IS EFFECTING THE ROOF, HOOD AND TRUNK AREA OF THE CAR. I HAVE NOTICED OTHER MITSUBISHI GALANTS (AND ECLIPSES) OF THE SAME YEAR WITH SIMILAR PAINT PEELING PROBLEMS. *NM

INTAKE MANIFOLD HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AND NOW THE THIRD MANIFOLD HAS CRACKED IN THE VERY SAME PLACE AS THE FIRST TWO. FIRST REPLACEMENT CAME WITH NO EXPLANATION WHY. SECOND REPLACEMENT WAS BECAUSE OF A CRACKED MOTOR MOUNT. I WILL NOT LET DEALERSHIP REPLACE THIS MANIFOLD. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT WHEN THE TIMING BELT WAS REPLACED IT WAS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY AND THERE IS TOO MUCH ENGINE VIBRATION.

4 YEARS OLD, 24K MILES, NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT. THE DOOR LIGHT CAME ON. DRIVER SIDE DOOR MISALIGNED. THERE WAS HALF AN INCH SPACE BETWEEN THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR AND THE BODY FRAME. IT GOT MORE DIFFICULT TO OPEN EVERY DAY. THREE WEEKS LATER, THE DOOR COULDN'T OPEN AT ALL. I THEN CONTACTED THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 888-327-4236. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE RECALL NUMBER WAS 02V143001, AND THAT IT SHOULD BE GOOD FOR 10 YEARS AFTER THE ORIGINAL RECALL DATE, WHICH WAS MAY 2002.
