I OWN A 2002 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GT WITH A PAINT-PEELING PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS A HORRIBLE PAINT-PEELING PROBLEM ALL OVER THE TOP AREAS OF THE CAR. I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH ABOUT 48,000 MILES, AND THE PAINT PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT TWO THOUSAND MILES LATER. I HAVE SEEN MANY, MANY VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS MY CAR. ... ND SEND THEM IN. I RECEIVED A RESPONSE ABOUT THREE WEEKS LATER SAYING THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO THE CAR BECAUSE I WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FACT THAT I WASN'T THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PAINT BEING A PROBLEM ON OTHER PEOPLE'S CARS. THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT THE DEFECT IS ON THEIR BEHALF AND REFUSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS BEGINNING TO RUST AND I AM NOT ABLE TO AFFORD THE REPAINTING OF MY CAR. THE VEHICLE WILL JUST CONTINUE TO RUST AND BECOME A ROAD HAZARD THAT IS OUT OF MY CONTROL. I TAKE WELL-ABOVE DECENT CARE OF MY VEHICLES, BUT THERE IS NOTHING I COULD DO ABOUT THE PAINT. LONG STORY SHORT THE TRANNY HAS BEEN REBUILT 8 TIMES SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE, I HAVE SPENT OVER $20,000 IN RENTAL CARS, CABS, HOTELS. ETC. I ONCE AGAIN WAS GIVEN DEC 2007. THE TRANNY BEGAN TO SLIP WITHIN 3 MONTHS. I TRIED TO CONTACT THE ORIGINAL TRANNY SHOP AND THE PLACE WAS GONE, NO NOTICE WAS GIVEN & NOW I NEED TO PUT CAR IN SHOP. MY CAR WAS PURCHASED ON 11/23/05. ONE WEEK AFTER PURCHASE, SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT MY OIL WAS REALLY LOW AND ADDED A QUART OF OIL. HE ADVISED ME TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL REGULARLY. I NOTICED THAT I HAD TO ADD A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES OR SO. I VOICED MY CONCERN TO THE SERVICE MANAGER WHEN I HAD MY FIRST OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THAT "A QUART OF OIL LOSS PER 1,000 MILES IS NORMAL". I C

THE FIRST OIL CONSUMPTION TEST REVEALED ABNORMAL RESULTS WHICH PROMPTED THEM TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. ANOTHER OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS DONE AND IT SHOWED A MORE FAVORABLE RESULT. I CHECK THE OIL LEVEL REGULARLY AND STILL NOTICE THAT I ADD A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES. I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT IT AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NORMAL. I WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER TO HAVE THE OIL CONSUMPTION CHECKED. THE FIRST OIL CONSUMPTION TEST REVEALED A QUART OF OIL LOSS PER 1000 MILES AND THE SECOND TEST REVEALED AN ABNORMAL RESULT OF A QUART AND A QUARTER OIL LOSS PER 1000 MILES. I HAVE LESS THAN 22,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AS OF TODAY AND RECENTLY I HAVE BEEN HEARING A NOISE COMING FROM MY TRANSMISSION WHILE I AM IN 'NEUTRAL.' I RECENTLY RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A 'PREVIOUS' RECALL SITUATION THAT NEEDED TO BE ADDRESSED. I QUESTIONED THE '
... NOISE' AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE 'THROW-OUT' BEARING ON THE CLUTCH. I ASKED IF THE PART CAN BE REPLACED AND IF IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY 'USUALLY' REPLACED THE ENTIRE CLUTCH DUE TO THE BEARING CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY ITSELF. WHEN I ASKED WHY THE BEARING WAS NOT COVERED, I WAS TOLD IT WAS A 'WEARABLE' PART. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS CLUTCH REPLACEMENT COULD COST AT LEAST $1,000. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MANUAL TRANSMISSION-VEHICLES FOR OVER 13 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A 'CLUTCH' PROBLEM. THE PREVIOUS CARS I OWNED PRIOR TO THE ECLIPSE PURCHASE HAVE BEEN SOLD TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND THEY ALSO HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CLUTCH. I CURRENTLY OWN A 20 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH ALMOST 200,000 MILES AND I HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEM WITH THE CLUTCH. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE CLUTCH IS A 'WEARABLE' PART, HOWEVER, I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS DEALING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM (COMPLAINT NUMBER: 10222679, 10224311, 10178777, 10173845, 10163231) AND I BELIEVE THAT A CLUTCH SHOULD NOT NEED REPLACING ALREADY IN A BRAND-NEW VEHICLE.
