While driving a 2023 MINI Countryman on two separate occasions, the vehicle suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. Pressing the accelerator did not produce the expected power/response, creating a hazardous loss-of-propulsion condition in traffic; the car rolled to a stop each time. I was able to get the vehicle to a safe location, but the incidents could have resulted in a collision. There were
... *no* warning lights, warning messages, or other clear symptoms before the loss of acceleration. The vehicle had (unbeknownst to me, prior to my ownership) previously experienced an electrical/battery-related event after its parking lights were left on, followed by diagnostic fault codes. The vehicle was sold as a certified pre-owned vehicle. I am seeking complete pre-delivery diagnostic and repair records and a determination of whether the earlier electrical faults or another unresolved defect contributed to this incident. The vehicle has been/will be inspected by the selling dealer or manufacturer. The precise failed component is currently UNKNOWN. Documentation, including dealer correspondence and service records, is available upon request.Read more

The contact owns a 2011 Mini Cooper Clubman. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing electrical failures. Several unknown warning lights blinked upon starting the vehicle, the parking lights failed, and the power windows failed to operate as intended. The contact stated that the electrical failures were due to water leak in the front driver's side footwell and on the left side of the
... driver's seat. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V337000 (Electrical System); however, the manufacturer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.Read more

I recently purchased a used MINI Cooper with incomplete NHTSA Safety Recall 23V-337 involving the Footwell Control Module (FRM). The previous owner did not complete the recall remedy. The vehicle's turn signals and brake lights are currently inoperative. The FRM controls various vehicle lighting functions and is the component involved in Recall 23V-337. Because I purchased the vehicle with these
... conditions already present, I do not know what warning lamps, messages, or symptoms occurred before the failures. The loss of both turn signals and brake lights creates a significant safety risk because other motorists cannot be properly notified when the vehicle is turning, changing lanes, slowing, or stopping. Additionally, Recall 23V-337 states that corrosion of the FRM can potentially result in a short circuit and, in rare cases, a thermal event that could increase the risk of injury. The vehicle has not yet been inspected to determine whether the current lighting failures are directly caused by the recalled FRM, but the recall remains incomplete and the vehicle is available for inspection. I contacted BMW/MINI seeking completion of the recall. I was informed that it must be performed by an authorized MINI dealer. There is no authorized MINI dealer in Montana, and the nearest facility is approximately 500 miles away. BMW/MINI declined transportation assistance, mobile repair, or authorization for a closer BMW dealer or qualified repair facility. Although the vehicle can move under its own power, driving approximately 500 miles without brake lights or turn signals, while it also has an outstanding recall involving a potential electrical short circuit and thermal event, presents a serious safety concern. I am actively attempting to complete the recall and am requesting NHTSA review the safety issue and BMW/MINI's lack of a practical means for safely accessing the recall remedy.Read more

I was approaching a red light on a road that is 35mph. As I was coming to a stop my passenger side window shattered out of nowhere. There were no people around outside the vehicle and as I mentioned I was going so slow, I can't imagine any rock kicked up would have done this. There was glass everywhere in my car. Fortunately no one was in the passenger seat. There was a small amount of glass
... on my lap as the driver, but I was unharmed. I brought the car to the dealer. They did an inspection and cannot explain it other than saying maybe a rock hit it. They pointed out a very small dent in the door of the car, but that had been there previously. The rupture point was also closer to the top of the window (the windows were closed at the time of the incident), not where they workman pointed to. I asked the dealer to inspect the driver window when they replaced the shattered window. There were no warning lights to indicate this might happen. The car has been repaired so I can use it, but I have lots of pictures of what happened and the inspection video from the dealer.Read more

What happened: Vehicle has experienced failure of the Footwell Control Module (FRM) and associated wiring harness in the driver footwell area, consistent with NHTSA Recall 23V-337. Symptoms: • Exterior lights (headlights / taillights) remain illuminated far longer than normal after vehicle shutoff, sometimes not turning off at all. • Inspection revealed melted wiring, melted connector plugs
... and receptacles for headlight/taillight circuits. • Water was found in driver side footwell in the past / under carpet padding. Carpet pad is saturated. This is the same failure mode described in Recall 23V-337: "Due to a number of contributing factors, over time, the FRM could become susceptible to corrosion. Eventually, the corrosion could potentially result in a short circuit, resulting in a potential thermal event which could increase the risk of a fire or injury." Safety risk: Melted wiring and connectors create short circuit and thermal event risk, including fire risk while vehicle is parked and unattended. Lights failing to shut off creates dead battery / loss of exterior lighting control. I am concerned about vehicle fire. My vehicle shows evidence of having caught fire at the headlight and receptacle point. Recall history: Vehicle is included in NHTSA Campaign 23V-337000 (MINI Recall 23V-337 - Footwell Module Moisture/Water Intrusion). I was told remedy is still being developed / parts unavailable, or that additional wiring harness damage beyond the FRM itself is not fully covered. Dealer has inspected the vehicle and has completely disregarded the recall, which was the reason why I brought it in and have quoted me customer pay estimates for repairs covered under the recall. I am filing this to document that Recall 23V-337 failure has resulted in melted wiring harness components beyond just the FRM module, and to request NHTSA evaluate whether the current recall remedy fully addresses wiring harness damage caused by prolonged FRM corrosion / lights staying on.Read more

My car is a 2019 Mini Countryman All4 S. It currently has 17,000 miles. I bought it new, and it has only been serviced by the Dealer. On July 20, it was in for an oil change, and they informed me that right engine mount was starting to tear and needed to be replaced. The price quoted was $1,135.83. I have owned many cars with a lot more age and mileage, and have never had to replace an engine moun
... t. They said if I did not replace it, it would eventually damage other parts of the engine. After talking with other Mini owners, I found out it is common for this part to fail much sooner than it should. They all felt it should be recalled, particularly due to the repair cost and short lifespan. I spoke with Mini/BMW, and was told that it was a "wear and tear" item, and they took age into consideration, so they could not help me.Read more

The fuel tank has been expanding consistently now for the past few years. It has began to crack the attachment points for the body plastics. This puts my safety at risk if I experience a crash or collision since t
... he integrity of the tank is in question and it puts others safety at risk because it could rupture from a fall and cause a fire. There are no warning lamps on, the only symptom has been the swelling worsening over time and stress cracking the plastic fairings surrounding it. It could possibly be putting stress under the back part of the seat also.I have not had it inspected yet by the manufacturer or the police. The problem hasn’t been reproduced to my knowledge at any dealership but I’ve seen that others have had this same issue with the same model of motorcycle.Read more

This complaint concerns a serious, unresolved powertrain/propulsion safety defect in my 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe. While traveling approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost propulsion and would not accelerate normally while surrounded by highway traffic.MOST IMPORTANTLY, THERE WAS NO WARNING OR ADVANCE INDICATION. No warning lights, messages, or symptoms appeared before the loss of propulsion. I
... had no opportunity to anticipate the failure or prepare to safely exit traffic. This placed me and other motorists at immediate risk of a serious or potentially fatal collision.A Hyundai dealership inspected the vehicle and documented DTC P284001, Shift Fork D Position Fault. Despite this documented fault, the underlying safety issue remains unresolved. Hyundai has not identified a permanent correction or established that the vehicle is safe to operate. There has not been another incident because I will not risk another sudden loss of propulsion by driving the vehicle. The absence of another failure does NOT mean the problem is resolved. The vehicle remains available for inspection.I have repeatedly sought assistance from Hyundai and the dealership without a meaningful resolution. Newer information regarding a possible computer reset/relearn procedure has also been presented, but the dealership refuses to perform it.I reviewed NHTSA complaints for 2023 Santa Fe vehicles and found multiple reports describing similar safety symptoms, including sudden loss of propulsion, inability to accelerate, abnormal transmission shifting, and loss of speed. This raises serious concern that this may not be an isolated failure.A vehicle that can unexpectedly lose propulsion at highway speed WITHOUT ANY WARNING creates an extreme crash risk. I respectfully request that NHTSA review the similar complaints, investigate whether a broader transmission/powertrain safety defect exists, and determine whether corrective action is necessary before this results in serious injury or death.Read more

Although Kia has determined that my vehicle is unsafe and unrepairable due to a manufacturer safety defect, I have only been provided with 15 days of rental vehicle coverage while Kia’s own repurchase letter states that the process may take 60 to 90 days to complete. This could leave me without transportation through no fault of my own. Additionally, Kia has refused to reimburse my $4,000 down payment or provide any additional compensation related to the loss of use of my vehicle. Their offer also includes a substantial mileage deduction under certain options, despite the fact that this repurchase is the result of a manufacturer safety defect rather than a voluntary sale or trade-in. I requested written clarification regarding my settlement options, rental coverage, loan payoff, and reimbursement of my expenses. Rather than answering my questions, Kia responded only that the offer was “firm” and compliant with Florida law, without addressing the specific concerns I raised. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed to determine whether Kia is handling this safety recall and repurchase fairly and whether consumers whose vehicles are deemed unsafe and unrepairable should receive adequate transportation assistance and fair compensation while waiting for the manufacturer to complete the repurchase process. Vehicle: 2019 Honda Odyssey Issue: Unintended airbag deployment consistent with Honda Recall UNW (SRS Control Unit Calibration Defect) Incident Type: Safety defect – airbags deployed without collision Location & Date: Highway 131, outside of Kalamazoo, MI - travel – normal road conditions on July 6, 2026 Insurance Outcome: Denied due to manufacturer defect, will only cover minor wheel damage
... While driving my 2019 Honda Odyssey on the highway, the vehicle hit a pot hole in the main lane and multiple airbags deployed without any collision, impact, or hazardous event. The side, and curtain airbags all deployed simultaneously. These airbags also did not deflate making it very difficult to see and could have been extremely dangerous. There was no crash, no debris, and no external damage to the vehicle. The deployment was sudden, violent, and completely unexpected. The circumstances of this incident match the description of Honda Safety Recall UNW, which identifies a defect in the SRS control unit calibration that can cause airbags to deploy from normal road vibration, potholes, or bumps. My vehicle’s behavior aligns exactly with the recall conditions. I filed a claim with my insurance provider (Allstate), and they issued a denial because the airbag deployment was caused by a manufacturer defect, not a collision or comprehensive event. As a result, I am left with over $10,000 in airbag related repair costs, including replacement of the airbag modules, seat airbags, curtain airbags, SRS sensors, and interior trim damaged by the deployment. I contacted Honda to request reimbursement under the recall, but Honda has refused my claim and pushed me back to my insurance provider. The lack of response from Honda leaves me with significant financial damage caused directly by a known recall defect. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in compelling Honda to address this recall related failure, reimburse the repair costs and ensure proper handling of unintended airbag deploymentsRead more

While the vehicle is past its standard powertrain warranty, the failure is directly caused by an inherent manufacturing defect that Ford has internally acknowledged and documented. The dealership has quoted $9,000 for a full replacement, an unreasonable financial burden for a known, pre-existing mechanical flaw. The vehicle is experiencing severe shifting difficulties, specifically when attempting to transition the vehicle out of Park into any other gear. A formal diagnostic inspection conducted by the authorized Ford dealership confirmed a total transmission failure. Crucially, the dealership verified that the vehicle's symptoms and mechanical failures match Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 857 / 20-2190 (tel:857%20/%2020-2190). This internal Ford bulletin specifically addresses harsh engagements, shifting faults, and component degradation within this vehicle's transmission model. The dealership initially denied financial assistance because this vehicle’s specific VIN is not included in safety recall Campaign 20S47. I wish to clarify that I am not arguing a violation of a safety recall. I understand that Campaign 20S47 is a narrow, VIN-specific safety mandate. Instead, my case rests on the fact that the dealership’s own diagnostics verified the exact mechanical failure described in Ford’s internal Technical Service Bulletins. A TSB proves that Ford is fully aware of a widespread, systemic manufacturing defect in these units. The exclusion of my VIN from a safety recall does not negate the fact that my vehicle suff INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552Read more

For over a year, engine shudders/jerks when accelerating. I see this has been a repeated complaint by many for a few years now. How is this not a recall?????
Incident date: May 1, 2026
Received "reduced propulsion" message, with no engine detected. Car slowed to a near stop while driving on the Interstate highway. Very dangerous to have that suddenly happen. Message popped up randomly with no prior warning.

While driving my car engine just shuts off without any warning. My car had a message on the dash after the engine stopped saying to shift the car to park and the emergency parking brake came on. On 04/24/2025, the vehicle displayed similar warnings, including critical brake system/Electronic Brake Force Distribution malfunction, ABS malfunction, Smart Brake Support and Forward Obstruction Warning disabled, possible forward sensing camera malfunction, and keyless entry malfunction. The vehicle was towed at that time. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Mazda dealer in June 2026. The dealer replaced the battery under warranty, but I was not provided diagnostic trouble codes, a root-cause explanation, or written confirmation that the braking, ABS, airbag/seat belt, stability control, Smart Brake Support, Forward Obstruction Warning, and forward sensing/camera systems were fully diagnosed and verified safe. The dealer inspection report also listed the mileage as “No Mileage.” The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I do not feel safe driving it because the repeated warnings involve braking, collision avoidance, stability control, airbags, and seat belt systems. I am concerned that an electrical, braking, or safety-control defect may disable safety systems while driving.Read more

The 2018 F150 I purchased started out a good vehicle like most vehicle do. The problems then began to come one after the other. Routine oil changes on the vehicle at the dealership with no hiccups turned into “Your motor is low on oil”. The tech tried to find a leak. The motor wasn’t leaking ANYTHING, so naturally the tech told me the motor was burning the missing oil. The tech told me “th
... ey all burn alittle oil” and topped it back off. I had another “incident” where I was driving on the highway a few weeks later and my engine light came on, and I lost oil pressure. The red “low oil pressure” message came on the dash and I promptly limped my truck to the dealership once again. The tech diagnosed the truck and found a plugged PCV valve. It was changed for a brand new one from the dealer, followed by another oil change well under the recommended interval naturally, due to the motor burning almost all of the oil. The truck still burns oil, and the issue seems to be impossible to remedy. The issue that followed the engine burning oil is the 10R80 Transmission installed from the ford manufacturer. Once again everything seemed fine when I purchased the truck. After driving it for 20-30k miles, the transmission has developed a flare shift between the 3rd-4th gears. The transmission is getting more and more hesitant to upshift and maintain and gain speed. This is considerably noticeable when attempting to get on the highway. This is unacceptable. It puts me in a very vulnerable spot because it doesn’t happen all the time. So I have to be EXTREMELY aware and prepared for the truck to become inoperable while merging into the flow of traffic. On two occasions now, while merging onto the highway with traffic, I have had to pull over to the shoulder of the road and put my hazards on to allow traffic to go around me due to my 2018 F150 with the 5.0/10R80 combination NOT increasing speed, and reving close to 5k RPMs. THESE ISSUES MUST BE ADDRESSED.Read more

While driving my 2023 Nissan Rogue on Interstate xxx from [XXX] to [XXX] with my xxx daughter in the vehicle, the vehicle suddenly displayed multiple warnings including collision assist/sensor malfunction warnings, start/stop system failure warnings, and “check owner’s manual” messages. Immediately afterward, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power and refusal to accelerate. At the
... time of failure, I was traveling approximately 78 mph in the fast lane of the interstate. The vehicle rapidly lost speed and dropped into what appeared to be limp mode, eventually slowing into the upper 50 mph range despite pressing the accelerator. I had to fight across multiple lanes of freeway traffic while unable to maintain highway speed. This created an extremely dangerous situation due to surrounding high-speed traffic and limited safe shoulder access in a remote desert area. The vehicle became unsafe to continue driving and required a tow of over 70 miles to the nearest Nissan dealership. The tow expense alone exceeded $600. Prior to this incident, the vehicle had already experienced a separate unexplained no-power/no-start event. At that time, the battery, starter, and alternator reportedly tested normal. The vehicle remains within the manufacturer’s 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty and currently has active recalls associated with the vehicle. A Nissan case has been opened and the vehicle is pending dealer diagnosis and inspection. After posting publicly about this incident in Nissan owner groups, I identified numerous other owners reporting nearly identical symptoms involving warning light cascades, sudden loss of acceleration, limp mode events, and highway safety concerns. This incident created a serious safety hazard involving sudden highway deceleration and loss of motive power during interstate travel.
