I started to get engine knocking noises about 6 months after the purchase of the used car. This knocking noise began to increase in frequency as I pressed my foot on the accelerator and the car would not accelerate when I pressed my foot on the gas pedal. A concerned driver with his passengers pushed the car to a Walmart parking spot where it is currently at. 2018 Jeep Compass Limited has the OEM Bi-Xenon option equipped. The issue is with both headlights operating intermittently. 2017 Jeep Compass has been having an issue with either the start-stop mechanism or the brakes. I was at a single lane red light. When I got to the next light and stepped on the brake, I heard a sound and when I looked down and noticed that the parking brake had engaged on its own. Fortunately I was near the dealership, but I was terrified that I was not going to make it there even. After keeping it over night and test driving it, they found nothing wrong with the vehicle at all. This is not the first time this has happened and we took the Jeep to the dealership only to be told that there was nothing they could find wrong with it. I have found several other complaints by other people saying the same exact thing. They are having this issue and when they take it to their service center, they are being told it is fine. This is not fine, and the fact that there has been absolutely nothing done about this simply because there hasn't been any evidence is ridiculous. This is truly unacceptable and I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. Period. Hyundai has failed to remedy recall 235 within a reasonable amount of time, and is misreporting the stats of completed repairs related to this recall. They state that owner notification letters and dealer instructions were mailed May 2023 and that "dealers will install a new fuse and wire extension kit, as necessary, free of charge." Yet, the dealerships I've contacted do not have the replacement
... parts and have not been able to repair my vehicle despite many inquiries. I have inquired with Hyundai USA about this permanent recall remedy and they have been unable to assist. They refer me back to the dealership, and the dealership refers me back to Hyundai USA with no remedy in site. The quarterly report stats are misleading, as my car and others have had this recall marked as "completed" when in fact only the inspection and interim fix to remove the 40A fuse was completed, not the permanent fix they claimed to have ready in May 2023. All the interim fix did was disable the power supplied to the tow hitch, so brakes and turn signals will not function on trailers, which is a road hazard. This is not a repair, it renders your tow hitch inoperable in a safe manner. While Hyundai USA reported to NHTSA back in May 2023 that they had a permanent fix including a replacement 15A fuse and new wire harness parts available, it is just not accurate. It is over a year since they publicly announced the tow hitch harness recall 235 and more than 5 months since they announced the permanent repair, yet any dealership I contacted was unable to perform the repair and said they were not supplied with the recall replacement parts. No alternative recall remedies have been given either. This recall needs to be remedied in actuality, not just on a piece of paper. So many owners like myself have exhausted means of contacting Hyundai, yet are still left with an unrepaired recall. It is unsafe and deplorable that they are publicly releasing inaccurate recall data in their favor.Read more

Very shortly after that the car was completely engulfed and is now a total loss.

Every time when it rains, the power tail gate fails showing beeping noise from the rear and on the screen and unable to lock the doors. Had to replace the power tail module couple of times so far and still problem persists. Error message on dash says incorrect key code. Called a tow, they jumped the car with a jumper pack and engine starts, car accelerates. 1 day later new battery installed, new battery in key fobs. Car is accelerating and starting now. My complaint, my belief that there is a serious design flaw with the keyless start option. Car is not detecting key while in drive every time. No indication given that batteries were low power. Safety issues - no detectable problems found by mechanics, losing acceleration while in traffic possibly due to key fob malfunction. Why is there no option for traditional key start? How can car be trusted to start/ accelerate when driving long distances, when there is no reasonable explanation for the loss of acceleration? This is not a unique issue, a number of complaints online for viewing. Videos on how to ‘fix’ by unplugging car battery. Consumers should not have to diy/disconnect car battery just to start a car.I believe this is a deeper issue with car design and is a safety issue for teen and adult drivers.Read more

... service department for 2 1/2 hours this morning and they claimed not to be aware of the problem, although the technician did recognize the hesitancy. They also had no repair or correction from BMW. That is inexcusable. A second delay on accelerating from a stop making a turn onto or merging onto a highway, could result in a collision. I assume that BMW is waiting for enough reports of that happening before doing something about it. I am not interested in explanations or excuses. I assume the it is due to the engine stop/start mechanism. I want it corrected. I am leaving on a road trip in 2 weeks and am afraid to take this car on the trip. I realize that if I turn off the stop/start mechanism on each startup or drive in Sport mode, and the hesitancy does not occur. That is not an acceptable alternative for a $58,000, BMW X1, especially for a recognized defect in the car’s manufacture or software that has been known for at least 10 months.
