There was a software update released in July that drains the 12 volt battery and locks you out of thr vehicle. The reddit forums are calling it the "lockout glitch". It has to be towed to a dealer in order to even get into the vehicle.

The first sign of the issue is the inability to utilize remote commands via the Kia app, receiving a message that the vehicle's battery is at a low charge of <40%. Traffic was not directly behind and all I was trying to locate was the 4 way hazard to engage which hav
... ing only recently purchasing [XXX] and I had driven maybe 60 miles I located but with seeing a couple of vehicles approaching and being in the #2 lane my steering was stiff with little chance to get over safely to the #1 lane or to the further left HOV lane, I reached down w/ right hand and made very minimal contact with ignition/ keyfob area and the vehicle had power and was able to regain speed. I absolutely did not attempt to turn the key that was still fully in place. I can not say that other than making contact with no aggressive action or intent was I to believe the vehicle would again be running as it had prior and I proceeded the remainder of my trip (approx. 15-18 miles) with no further issues and without a clue other than I had been made aware of the recall prior to purchase and told it was not anything to be concerned with that the jackknife keyfob seemed to lock in the open position fine, and to just leave it in that position, which I did not agree with that opinion as I read about this safety issue and have brought up on at least 4 occasions prior to and after the sale. We were actually informed by the finance mgr. upon signing there were NO RECALLS on this vehicle, which we made him aware of and he commented that it would be nice if somebody would let him know that! And I informed sales person on two separate occasions as well asking that it receive the final Nissan remedy yet never being taken very seriously and now unhappy with this event when I that my knee making such slight contact is disturbing! An extensive internet search revealed widespread accounts of this issue, mostly after the manufacturer warranty had expired, leaving the customer responsible for engine replacement. Because this was deemed to be caused by a design defect (grooves were etched into the block to allow coolant between the cylinders which weakened the block, causing cracks, which allowed the coolant intrusion), I believe the existing recall should be expanded to include the 2015-2018 2.0L EcoBoost engine as well.Read more

Tesla engineers diagnosed the vehicle at the Burlingame CA Service Center, and spoke to me on the phone that the root cause was a recent firmware upgrade that has permanently bricked the ECU unit, which now needs to be replaced. Since this ECU unit is not user-accessible or user-serviceable, there is no way for this to have been caused by the customer. Tesla quoted $2048 to fix it, out of pocket, even though this damage was not caused by the customer, or related to regular wear-and-tear, but (as acknowledged by Tesla) caused due to a faulty firmware update issued by Tesla themselves. May 17, 2024: After pointing this out to them, Tesla managers called me, offering to discount the repair by 25%. Many similar complaints about the exact same part (ECU unit) and the same mode of failure (bricked after buggy firmware update) can be found shared online by others. This is a systemic issue, and not a one-off failure for my car alone. Rear hatch does not open. You can not manually open it from outside or inside. My wife had a flat on the highway and could not change her tire as she could not access it. The hatch as failed on the button on the dash, the remote key fob and the foot opener under bumper. This is so dangerous for safety to exit the car from inside and well as getting to spare tire.

Driving on [XXX] to Atlanta GA my car would not automatically shift and began to vibrate badly. I was almost hit by other vehicles as I pulled off the highway to check car out. My safety system keeps malfunctioning. I am unable to use safety features, blinkers, hazards and gauges of speed, gas and rpm go to zero. I have taken my car several time to the Kia dealership in Arlington Texas and they keep giving me the run around with my concern. They say that don't have codes that validate a problem.
