-The steering wheel and brake locked up and became unusable while driving at approximately 75mph. Cruise control was enabled for a few miles (maybe 2) and disabled after. Around 5 minutes after disabling, the car began to surge between acceleration and deceleration drastically on its own. All of the dashboard lights that come on when the key is initially inserted came on at once while engine was o
... n/running and the car was in drive. After finally being able to reach a safe enough spot, I put the car in park and turned the engine off. I sat for a few minutes to try and turn the engine/car back on and the car would not crank, but the overhead lights, radio, and dash lights were functioning. -This was an extremely dangerous experience. The car began to decelerate rapidly in heavy freeway traffic. At that speed, with many semi-trucks traveling nearby, this sudden loss of speed created an extremely dangerous situation. My vehicle instantly became a slow moving obstacle in the lane. Only by luck and quick reaction was a serious or fatal collision avoided. The car would not start back up so I was sitting at the edge of the highway as many cars flew by just inches away from my car. -I am away at college in a rural city. Accessibility is limited as well as support because of lack of resources. -The car was towed to a mechanic who does not specialize in German cars and stated they did not have the proper tools to "get into the car" because the motor is "locked up" and the car wouldn't crank. -The vehicle will be towed to the nearest dealership (50mi away) who stated they won't be able to look at it for a few weeks from date of arrival. Research indicates this may be linked to a known issue with Electronic Steering Lock (ESL) / Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS) failure in Mercedes vehicles, which can electronically disable the engine and steering. This could've easily been fatal for me and still poses an alarming threat if not addressed.Read more

Today, I placed my backpack containing my 2019 BMW X3 key fob in the back seat, closed the door, and proceeded to open the driver’s door as usual. Immediately, the car locked itself with the key fob still inside. This is a failure of the anti-lockout safety system. The vehicle’s Comfort Access/keyless entry system is designed to prevent the doors from locking when the key is inside, and it sho
... uld never lock itself under these circumstances. This malfunction creates a serious safety risk, as occupants or pets could become trapped inside the vehicle. I am submitting this complaint to notify NHTSA of a potential safety defect in the BMW anti-lockout / Comfort Access system. I request an investigation to determine if this defect affects other vehicles of the same model and year.Read more

As I entered [XXX] , i was nearly rear ended by another car, because my SC lost all acceleration. The Hyundai Santa Cruz has KNOWN transmission issues and the fact I was nearly rear ended could've caused a nasty wreck, resulting in more damage or even a fatality. I reported the issue to Hyundai customer service on the 11th of September (Case #[XXX]). [XXX] 2018 MAZDA CX-9 GRAND TOURING 89014 MILES Date: 9/11/2025 To: Mazda North American Operations Attn: Customer Experience Center 7755 Irvine Center Drive Irvine, CA 92618 USA Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Safety and Technical Issue – 2018 Mazda CX-9 Dear Mazda Customer Experience Team, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a serious safety and technical issue I hav
... e experienced with my 2018 Mazda CX-9. After a recent inspection conducted by Mazda Koch 33, it was brought to my attention that the engine wiring harness is defective and may potentially cause a fire or result in burns, posing a severe safety risk to me, my passengers, and others on the road. This issue is deeply concerning and unacceptable, especially considering Mazda’s reputation for reliability and safety. A fault in the engine wiring harness, particularly one that has the potential to ignite or burn, should be treated with the utmost urgency. It is troubling that such a critical component could present such danger. My vehicle has been serviced and maintained regularly, and I was not made aware of any recall or technical service bulletin that addressed this defect until the inspection. Given the nature of the defect, I believe this may be a manufacturer defect, and I request that Mazda: Immediately investigate and confirm whether this issue falls under an existing recall or known defect. Take full responsibility for replacing or repairing the affected wiring harness at no cost to me. Provide assurances in writing that my vehicle is safe to operate. Offer compensation or a loaner vehicle if the repair process renders my vehicle unusable for any period of time. Please consider this a formal request for immediate corrective action. I expect a prompt response within 10 business days of the date of this letter. If I do not receive a satisfactory resolution, I will be compelled to escalate this matter further through consumer protection agencies, such as the INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATIRead more

Over ~3 years of ownership, the vehicle has experienced recurrent electrical and engine-management issues, resulting in 15+ service visits and ~100 cumulative days out of service at an authorized dealer. Patterns include: (1) electrical—keyless entry intermittently unresponsive, instrument cluster flickering/rebooting, multiple warning messages including a battery/electrical icon, HVAC/A/C becom
... ing inoperative without cooling; and (2) powertrain/engine—check-engine light (MIL) illuminated, hesitation/limited power on initial acceleration, and rough operation after start. Safety risk: intermittent failure to unlock/start can leave occupants stranded; loss of power/hesitation creates risk when merging or crossing intersections; multiple warning messages/flicker are distracting; and loss of A/C in hot conditions has required operation with windows down to avoid heat stress. Reproduction/confirmation: The concerns have been observed by the dealer on multiple visits with fault codes recorded (codes UNKNOWN to me). Repairs/updates have been attempted, but symptoms recur after service. The vehicle has been inspected repeatedly by the authorized dealer and remains available for inspection upon request. Warnings/symptoms prior to failure: intermittent MIL, battery/electrical warning, cluster glitches/flicker, and A/C blowing warm air; some events followed periods where the vehicle would not unlock or start on the first attempt. Root cause: UNKNOWN.Read more

Prior to July, 2010, I received a letter from Toyota stating my Tacoma Frame was recalled. I wouldn’t have known otherwise. I set up an appointment with the Orleans Toyota dealer and set up an appointment. They gave me a loaner and had my truck for two weeks. I thought my frame had been replaced. Note: Searching for similar complaints I found them under "Engine", "Electrical", and "Fuel". There are many such complaints! My 2020 Nissan Leaf has been under a recall notice since September of 2024 (12 months ago). Nissan warned the battery may catch fire during level 3 (rapid) charging. Nissan ordered owners not to use rapid chargers until a fix was in place. Such a fix was (and still is) pro
... mised by March 2025. That date is 6 months past now and yet their website still proclaims it. This, to me, demonstrates that Nissan is not actively working on the problem. They seem content to have shifted the burden of dealing with the problem onto their customers. Rapid charging is not a luxury, especially with large capacity batteries. Fully charging the car in 2-3 hours instead of 10-12 hours is a key selling point of the vehicle. To remove it amounts to a bait and switch. One year is an extremely generous amount time to allow for a solution. Obviously, they want a software solition to avoid the high cost of replacing the batteries. Obviously, they can't find a software solution. It is time for them to be forced to accept the higher cost consequence of releasing a faulty product. P.S. During a phone conversation with Nissan customer service in late July, I was told (after many denials that anything was wrong with them proclaiming a fix in March 2025 in July 2025) that a fix would be available in November. As their site still says March 2025 I must assume that was a blatant lie to pacify me.Read more

The Mercedes GLE450 was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, the driver entered the intersection. The automatic braking system engaged without reason (there was open road ahead), bringing the car to a sudden standstill. The driver accelerated again, but this time the car went backwards into the car behind him. The driver had not shifted into reverse. So the car both slammed on
... the brakes, and switched the transmission into reverse, without driver input. Mercedes-Benz USA conducted an investigation and produced data showing that the car shifted into reverse while it was driving forward; they claimed this was driver error. However, the dealer (and our own experience) says it is impossible to shift the car into reverse when it is driving forward; the car must be stopped before it can shift into reverse. We have asked them to explain this seeming incoherence in their explanation, but they have not responded. Our conclusion is that the car malfunctioned. I am concerned about the excessive glare from LED vehicle headlights on newer model cars, trucks, and SUVs. These headlights are far brighter than traditional halogen lights and create a distracting starburst/radial glare pattern that makes it difficult to see the roadway clearly at night. The glare is so intense that it often blinds me temporarily, making it nearly impossible to see nearby pedest
... rians, especially those in dark clothing. I have good vision and do not require corrective lenses, so this is not a personal vision issue. The brightness and blue-white color of these headlights appear unsafe for the general driving public, as they reduce night visibility and increase the risk of collisions. This problem occurs regularly when driving at night and is becoming increasingly common as more vehicles are equipped with LED headlights. I believe the current headlight standards do not adequately protect drivers and pedestrians from glare hazards. I urge NHTSA to review and update regulations for LED headlights, including glare testing, brightness limits, and mandatory leveling or filtering requirements.Read more

The vehicle experienced serious drive control failures on three separate dates: September 21, 2024; October 2, 2024; and July 26, 2025. On each occasion, acceleration was either severely delayed or completely unresponsive, and the vehicle rolled backward when attempting to move forward on an incline. The following warnings appeared on the dashboard: “Stability Control Disabled,” ESC (Electron
... ic Stability Control) warning light, and Air Suspension System warning. These symptoms occurred both while stationary and while driving. The vehicle was brought to Tesla service centers twice—on October 10, 2024, and September 2, 2025. On both occasions, Tesla stated that the issue could not be reproduced and returned the vehicle without performing any repairs. During the second visit, Tesla performed a $275 wheel alignment adjustment. The service report noted that the warning lights “may be restored on next drive.” I was verbally told that adjusting the alignment might help identify the root cause, but Tesla never explained how this adjustment was related to the actual symptoms. After performing the alignment, I was simply notified that the vehicle was ready for pickup. This kind of propulsion failure and rollback on inclines presents a serious safety risk to the driver, passengers, and other vehicles on the road. The issue remains unresolved and could occur again at any time without warning.Read more

I purchased a 2021 Chrysler Voyager in August 2024 from Apple Autos in Shakopee MN. When we purchased the car, there has always been a rough idle and were assured that this was due to the automatic start/engine. Around July 2025, I began experiencing engine issues that have persisted for over two months. Initial issues were a significant rough idle and car dying. We brought the car in and repaired
... both batteries and replaced all the spark plugs. The issues have persisted. Symptoms include overheating, coolant loss, and misfires on cylinder 3. Diagnostics suggest a head gasket failure. This issue poses a safety risk, especially if the engine fails while driving. I’ve attempted repairs, but the problem remains unresolved. I’m concerned this may be a premature failure affecting other vehicles of the same model and engine type. There is no official recall for head gasket failure on the 2021 Chrysler Voyager, but there are numerous owner reports and forum discussions suggesting that early engine failure and head gasket issues are a concern—especially for vehicles that were former rentals or have the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine, which is shared with the Chrysler Pacifica. Several Voyager owners have reported head gasket failures around 50,000–70,000 miles. These issues often appear shortly after warranty expiration, leading to costly repairs. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and consider whether a recall or manufacturer intervention is warranted.Read more
