All four of the vehicles windows will remain wet inside the car door after rain or a car wash. This can last for over 24 hours after the vehicle becoming wet. So a dry window will be rolled down and then come up wet and streaky with water from inside the door making visibility difficult. This is especially dangerous at night when the side mirror is picking up other vehicle's lights. My car has
... been doing this since I purchased it new in 2024. The dealership tried to tell me it was normal but then tried to offer a fix to one window but declined it after I told them this happened to all four windows. They checked for water in the door and said there was none but the water is coming from somewhere and I'm still in the process of trying to get this fixed by Toyota as the car is still under warranty but as of today I have had no luck. Visibility is hampered in a dangerous manner when this happens rendering my side mirrors useless. This issue will last days after a rain/car wash. Dry windows get rolled down and wet, streaky window gets rolled up.Read more

Loss of Steering Control at Highway Speeds – 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 Vehicle: 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC300, VIN [XXX] Dates of Incident: September 13th and October 4th Mileage at Time of Incident: 39,500 While driving on a four-lane expressway at highway speeds, my vehicle suddenly and completely lost steering control, resulting in a total inability to steer. First Incident The first event oc
... curred during light rain with mildly wet road conditions. Without warning, the vehicle hydroplaned and violently crossed all four lanes approximately 20–25 times, narrowly avoiding collisions with other vehicles and medians. The steering wheel was completely unresponsive. After several minutes, the car inexplicably corrected its course. Second Incident The second incident occurred weeks later under clear, dry conditions with my minor child in the car. Once again, the steering wheel locked, leaving me unable to direct the vehicle. I had to physically force the wheel to prevent the car from leaving the highway. Investigation The car was towed to Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables, where technicians were unable to find any fault despite multiple diagnostic attempts. I have since discovered that 2023 and 2024 models of this same vehicle are under active recall for a similar steering malfunction, which may indicate that 2022 models are also affected. Safety Concern This defect poses an imminent risk of fatal accidents, both to occupants and to other drivers. The failure occurs without warning, at high speeds, and results in total loss of steering control. Requested Action I request that the NHTSA investigate whether 2022 models should be included in the existing recall related to steering control failure in Mercedes-Benz vehicles. I am writing to formally report a safety-related malfunction involving the parking brake system in my vehicle. The issue poses a significant safety hazard while driving and warrants investigation for potential design or manufacturing defects. During normal operation, the parking brake actuator malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to pull to one side and creating an unsafe driving condition. When I
... took the car to an authorized dealership, I was informed that the issue was due to a faulty parking brake switch. The switch was replaced; however, the malfunction persisted. Further inspection revealed that the parking brake motor and actuator needed replacement. Even after these repairs, while driving, the dashboard repeatedly displayed warnings such as: •“Parking brake engaged,” •“Please release parking brake,” and •“Parking brake system overheated.” When attempting to release the brake, the system would only disengage after manually pressing the release button, rather than automatically disengaging when the vehicle began to move — as it should. This malfunction not only causes confusion but also increases the risk of loss of vehicle control or brake system failure during operation. Given the repeated failures and persistent warnings, I believe this issue represents a potential safety defect that should be reviewed by your agency to determine if other vehicles are affected. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and to ensuring this issue is properly addressed to prevent future incidents.Read more

Shortly after pickup, the car experienced loss of acceleration on the interstate, a strong odor of fuel, and a sudden loss of power, creating a dangerous and life-threatening situation. The vehicle had to be towed back to the shop. The manager, who is not a certified mechanic, admitted he personally “fixed” the issue by tightening the fuel pump himself. A Mercedes-Benz diagnostic inspection later confirmed multiple severe assembly errors, including missing fasteners, unsecured oil cooler, disconnected vent lines, and other safety-related defects in the fuel and cooling systems. These unsafe and negligent repairs created an extreme fire hazard, engine instability, and risk of sudden failure while driving. I am requesting a formal NHTSA investigation into this matter to ensure vehicle safety compliance and to prevent similar incidents affecting other consumers.Read more

RE: Continental Pro Contact GX SSR MOE 245/40 R19 98 H M+S Original factory installed Mercedes E450 tires. I had 3 blowouts from hitting small potholes on 3 different tires in 1.5 years. These are complete immediate blowout going completely flat on impact. It could have very dangerous if I were driving a little faster and fortunately there was no other damage to the car or other persons.
... In each case, I hit a small pothole, and the tire blew out, flat to the ground. Because these are run flat tires, on the first 2 incidents I was able to drive home and to the dealer for tire repair/replacement. The third one was so bad that I could not drive all the way home and had to get towed. But all 3 incidents were scary and dangerous because of the sudden blowouts. The tires were not repairable and had to be replaced. I believe that the Mercedes Tire inflation instructions is unsafe and they should put more air in the tires to protect from the rim cutting into the tire when hitting a pothole. The driver's door "B" pilar placard says the "cold tire pressure: Front 41 psi Rear 47 psi". Mercedes repair shop inflates the tires according to the Fuel Filler Door decal that says " Front 36 psi, Rear 36 psi." That is a big difference in pressure -- as much as possible 11 psi under pressure. I believe these run flat tires failed because of too low of tire pressure when hitting the pothole. If the tires were inflated with the higher pressures as on the door pilar, the wheel rim would not have been able to cut into and through the tire wall because the higher tire pressure would prevent the impact of the rim cutting through the tire sidewall. I believe this a serious safety issue and Mercedes should be inflating this type run flat MOE tires to a much higher pressure and should not use the low-pressure instructions that are on the fuel door label. There should be a recall and repair instructions to increase run flat tire pressure on Mercedes E class vehicles.Read more

Subject: Electrical System Failure and Safety Hazard – 2025 Mercedes-Benz E350 Dear Sirs, I am writing to formally report a serious safety concern and design flaw involving my 2025 Mercedes-Benz E350, which recently suffered a complete dashboard and display failure. According to the service technician, liquid that entered from the cup-holder area reached wiring and computer modules located di
... rectly underneath, causing a total system short. I was informed that this damage was not covered under warranty because it was attributed to “liquid exposure.” However, I never noticed any liquid spill or misuse of the vehicle. When the dashboard failed, the following critical systems were lost: Speedometer and vehicle speed display Warning lights (airbag, ABS, check engine, etc.) Fuel gauge and temperature indicators Navigation and climate control screens This left me driving without any visible speed, warning, or system status, which constitutes a clear safety hazard both to myself and other motorists. The wiring harnesses and control modules located directly under the cup holders are unprotected from moisture or condensation, even from normal use. This placement exposes sensitive electronics to a predictable and foreseeable hazard — a beverage container or minor condensation. A luxury vehicle of this level should not experience catastrophic electrical failure from normal interior use. The design effectively ensures that even the smallest moisture exposure can lead to multi-thousand-dollar damage and loss of all essential vehicle functions. This appears to be a defect in design and safety engineering, not user negligence. The repair estimate for this issue was approximately $3,000–$4,000, which I was forced to process through my insurance. Given that this design could affect other vehicles of the same model.I did write t9 mercedes however nonrefundable. I felt I would forward to tiu as it is a safet issue.A redesign if where Electrical box is is a simple fix.Read more

ALL TIRES MENTIONED HERE ARE PIRELLI ZERO RUN FLAT TIRES (MBQ-8-40-3071, PIRELLI 255/35R21) My Mercedes EQE equipped with 21” AMG wheels has suffered six blowouts using Pirelli ride fat tires that came with the car. It seems the car is too heavy for this tire/wheel configuration, which is a standard option and was installed on the car when I leased it. EQE, EQS, and S Class owners have reported
... the same problem in online forums over the last several years, specifically with 21” AMG wheels and ride Yat tires. All cases of this happening presented immediate risks, fortunately no crash occurred. Four incidents damaged one front tire, one incident damaged a front and rear tire. Mercedes should recall vehicles with this wheel and tire combination. The car has just 22,000 miles, bringing the mean time between failure for six tires to just 3,667 miles — well below the norm. I have owned many cars and typically average about 75,000 or more miles per tire, and never have catastrophic blowouts. The blowouts seem to occur because the Pirelli ride-flat tires have exceptionally stiff sidewalls that appear to fail under lateral impact resulting from even the most minor road imperfections. The car’s forward camber, low center of gravity, and heaviness exacerbate the problem. Two blowouts occurred while transiting over standard slightly recessed steel manhole covers traversed by thousands of vehicles daily. I have driven other Mercedes loaner vehicles with no incident. The problem appeared within a week of vehicle lease (May 2023) and I lost three tires in October 2025, within days of each other: once the day after a prior repair. I was also stuck waiting for repairs on a busy highway for 3 hours. This is a dangerous situation and needs a recall. Once is bad luck, twice is peculiar, three times is a pattern, four times is a design Yaw, and six times it’s negligence. I think the car is great otherwise but this is a dangerous design flaw and needs to be addressed by the company.Read more

ChatGPT said: There is a design flaw with the automatic light function. When you turn the knob to disable the automatic lights to avoid blinding someone while parked, the knob returns to the auto position as expected. This is a good system to ensure that the next time you start the car, the lights are in auto again. The issue is with the way the system indicates what is happening to the driver.
... When the lights are set to auto, the “auto” indicator on the knob is illuminated. If you turn the knob to running lights or full lights, the corresponding indicator lights up as expected. However, when you turn the lights off, the indicator light returns to “auto” even though the lights are actually off. While the physical knob should return to auto to make sure the system resets properly at the next startup, the indicator should switch to the “off” position so the driver knows the lights are off. I drove off in the city and assumed my lights were on because the knob said auto, but I later realized they were off. This creates a serious safety hazard. There is no way to know in that situation if your lights are actually on by looking at the knob unless you cycle the lights again. The paint on the outside of my 2011 Toyota 4Runner has recently been peeling significantly in various areas of the car, including the roof, the door below the window, and the front driver side panel. These areas are prone to rust, and many inhibit the safety of the car due to rust. Due to living near the ocean (within a mile), the salty air may increase the rust due to the paint peeling in variou

The air conditioning in my 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV has failed due to a refrigerant (freon) leak, leaving the system unable to cool and properly defrost the windshield. This is not an isolated issue—many other GLE owners have reported the same failure on forums and blogs, suggesting a widespread defect. NHTSA has already issued Recall No. 23V177000 (March 2023) for improperly installed A/C dr
... ain hoses in 2020–2021 GLE/GLS models, which created water intrusion, electrical shorts, fire risk, and failures of critical systems (eCall, unlocking, limp mode). In addition, a Mercedes-Benz Technical Bulletin dated August 5, 2024 (NHTSA MC-11000597-0001) specifically identifies evaporator refrigerant leaks as a frequent cause of A/C failure. Safety Concerns Loss of cabin cooling in hot weather poses risk of driver fatigue or heat-related illness. Defogging/defrosting may fail in humid conditions, creating visibility hazards. Prior related A/C defects have been tied to short circuits and electrical risks. Consumer Impact This defect has created significant hardship. The A/C failure occurred far earlier than expected for a premium vehicle, leaving me with high out-of-pocket repair estimates. The lack of cooling makes the car unsafe and uncomfortable to drive in hot weather, and the inability to properly defog/defrost windows compromises visibility. I purchased a Mercedes-Benz with the expectation of reliability and safety, and this known defect has undermined that trust. Requested Action Mercedes-Benz should cover the repair costs for affected vehicles, and NHTSA should investigate whether an expanded recall is necessary to include A/C evaporator refrigerant leaks as part of the broader HVAC system defect.Read more

Dear NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation, I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 (VIN: [XXX] ). On October 28, 2025, while driving southbound on Interstate 5 near the Zamora Exit in California at approximately 8:15 a.m., the fully closed moonroof of my vehicle spontaneously shattered. There was no impact, debris, or external cause, and the vehicle was operated
... under normal conditions. The incident was extremely frightening and created a serious safety hazard while driving at freeway speed. I began shaking uncontrollably and immediately called my manager to report that I could not come into work due to shock. I also contacted my mother to help calm me down. Vehicle Details: VIN: [XXX] Mileage: 90,XXX miles Purchase: Approximately 5 years ago at Fairfield Mercedes-Benz dealership Condition: No prior repairs to the moonroof, no aftermarket modifications I have documented the incident with photos and video. I have reported this to Mercedes-Benz Customer Care and my insurance provider (USAA). Additionally, I have reached out to Washington Law Offices, who are currently handling a class action lawsuit regarding this issue. I am submitting this complaint to formally notify NHTSA of the dangerous defect and to request that the agency investigate this potential safety issue affecting Mercedes-Benz vehicles with panoramic or sunroof systems. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please confirm receipt of this complaint and advise on any additional steps I should take. When there is dew, condensation, or rain on the windshield, the Front End Collision Warning system becomes inactive and displays the message: "Front End Collision System Inactive-Clean Windshield." This happens frequently, even with light moisture, and the warning system remains disabled until the windshield dries completely. Given that wet or low-visibility conditions are precisely when collision
... avoidance features are most critical, this failure creates a serious safety risk. I have verified that the windshield is clean and that three are no obstructions on the camera or sensors. Despite this, the system consistently deactivates whenever moisture is present. This issue appears to be a design or sensor calibration problem, not a maintenance issue.Read more

Mercedes G63 with approx. 3500 miles will suddenly enter into collision avoidance mode. Specifically, the seatbelts will tighten up and the brakes will fully engage to stop the vehicle. In all cases, there was no risk of collision and the system engages with false positive alerts. The console display will indicate the area where the vehicle believed a collision may occur and there is nothing
... in that vicinity. The risk of injury and bodily harm is significant with this system as the vehicle is uncontrollable and can be rear-ended among other situations. The dealership inspected and confirms fault codes and they updated the vehicle's software but the issue persists. Merecedes should immediately recall all vehicles.Read more

... r #2 failure on the M264 2.0L engine at only 26,589 miles. The dealer’s report states: “Cylinder #2 mixture formation out of spec. Fault occurred due to worn exhaust valve seat. Cylinder head replacement required.” Estimated repair cost: $10,470.66. This causes misfire, loss of power, and unsafe drivability. The failure matches Mercedes-Benz Technical Service Bulletin LI01.30-P-072328 (2021), which documents valve-seat leakage in M264 engines requiring head replacement. The vehicle is outside warranty but has extremely low mileage, and MBUSA Case #18392667 remains unresolved. It is also important to note that the M260 engine, which is mechanically identical to the M264 but mounted transversely, has already received a warranty extension from Mercedes-Benz for the same cylinder-head and valve-seat defect. This indicates a systemic issue across both engine families, presenting a safety risk of sudden power loss or engine stall during operation.Read more

On October 11, 2025, I discovered that my 2019 Tucson had no engine oil. I put three quarts of oil in at that time. Unfortunately, I'm passed the 30 day warranty with the dealership I purchased the vehicle from so now this burden has fallen on my shoulders.
