Started developing (April 2021) a rattle in car's roof along with occasional metal popping sound coming from rear of car. Continued to get worse. Then rattle stopped for a while and so did the metal popping sound. Now ( August, 2021)it sounds like there is a bolt loose in the sunroof area and the metal popping sound is really loud and I think coming from roof. Most of the time when car body twi
... st, like going up a slight incline at an angle when entering a parking lot this incredible loud popping sound resonates throughout the entire car body. Played around on Mercedes website and it appears that Mercedes has problems with sunroof bolts coming loose. This is a safety defect -- if sunroof comes lose at 70 mph it is going to fly off and hurt or kill someone. Also strength of roof is compromised and if have accident where roof protection is needed it will probably fail.Read more

On July 17, 2021 I was driving at the posted rate of speed down I-275 Southbound here in Michigan. All of the sudden and without warning, there was a loud explosion which happened, from as near as I can tell, in the driver's side windshield pillar, where there is an airbag. No warning lights came on, and the car did not change its driving characteristics. Only after I reached my destination and se

Since the incident, I have had severe tinnitus in my left ear which was about 15-18" away from it. The air bag did not deploy. The bonding agent on my roof ( between the glass panel and frame of car) is breaking down- The other week, when I had the sun roof open in direct sun ( my car is usually parked in covered parking) the bonding was sticky to the touch, and got all over my hand when I inspected the rail. We were driving the vehicle at about 30 MPH on a road when suddenly the engine completely shut off. There was no more power steering and no warning that it turned off. We got the car slowed down and once we came to a stop the car put itself in Park. After that we could restart it and keep driving with the car acting very different. This then happened again later on in the day going about 20 MPH up
... to a stop light. It shut itself off and luckily we were able to come to a stop with the brakes without running into the intersection and no one hitting us from behind. Once again it put itself in Park. We were able to restart the car and drive again with diminished power and really weird shifting from the transmission. The check engine light turned on both times and when we got it to the dealership the next morning all the check engine lights were off again. This is extremely dangerous to the driver and occupants. Our little son was in the back seat. We commute with this car in southern california and if this were to happen on the freeway it would be disastrous. Everyone is at risk with this car. It will just stop without any warning signs and you can have someone rear end you. And the power steering turns off also which if the car turns off in a corner on the freeway you will have no way of controlling the vehicle and will just go into the middle barrier or oncoming traffic. This could be even worse if driven on a mountain road and you loose all power of the vehicle. We will not be driving the car anymore since we have no idea when it will shut off again while driving.Read more

On July 1, my daugther who is driving the car since about 8 months noticed a strange noise coming from the rear of the car. Since I was in Europe at that time I could not give her any assistance. On July 16 we both took a drive to Rhode Island to visit a college. I was the one driving, and I could also hear the noise coming from the rear. On the highway there was a back-up developing and I had to
... hit the brakes a littler harder. In doing so. the car was very unstable and it look like if the rear was going to overtake the front of the car. I was very scary even for myself who is a long time experience driver. After returning home I took the car to a mechanic and have him look at it. The resulting diagnosis revealed that the subframe was completely rusted out and was about to get disconnected from the under carriage of the car at any moment. The mechanic had a hard time to find a replacement part, and was finally able to locate an OEM subframe in California, the only one in the US. The price for the part alone was $1,500. I had no choice other than to have the car repaired at the mechanic since it was at that time undrivable. The total repair was almost $3,200. I took 2 pictures of the replaced subframe (see attached). The car is a 2011 MB C300-4-matic with just 100,800 miles on it. The was purchased used, with about 12,000 miles, in Febr. 2012 from Mercedes Benz of Westford, MA, which had used the car as a loaner/company car. The car was well maintained, used up until 2020 by my daughter's mother. She then bought herself another, newer C300 (2017 model) and decided to gift her older car to the daughter instead of trading it in. We thought, we knew a lot about the car and considered it a low risk transfer for a new, still learning driver. I will also file a formal complaint with Mercedes Benz if I have figured out the correct contact point. The internet shows, other people have experienced similar situations. And eventually, see also your ID-# 10504684 and 11023618.Read more
