The contact owns a 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500. The contact stated while driving on the highway at 65 MPH, there was construction that had directed traffic to the right side of the road. The contact had to use excessive force to keep the vehicle from hitting the other vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred 3 times after the initial failure on the same day caused by Active Lane Keep Assist program, while driving under similar conditions. The contact then decided to turn off the active lane departure assist feature to avoid any further potential failures. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. 07/31/2021 Fuel smell in the cabin, and in the garage, and a small paddle of gas formed under the car, but at that time I wasn't sure if it was the A/C condense, or gas. Took car out of the garage and left it there overnight. Drove the car next day and the smell was less noticeable, and it disappeared in about two days. Next two weeks did not ill up the tank completely, and there was no smell or
... leak. Yesterday, Sunday, Aug 22nd, I filled the car with gas again until the pump stopped, and the smell came back instantly, as I was driving home. Parked the car in the driveway and immediately noticed a large paddle of gas forming under the left rear wheel. Removed back seat and both fuel tank pump metal covers, and both plastic fittings/covers were leaking gas, more so on the driver's side. There are hairline fractures in both covers, and both are leaking gas. Removed both covers and siphoned gas out of the car until the leak stopped. I went to Hendrick's MB of Durham and asked about the recall, they denied that my car qualifies. The parts alone were quoted at $1229.12, without labor, and I was told fuel tank worth about $1,000.00 (without labor) may need to be changed as well. NHTSA recall campaign 2013020002 mentions my car. My defect is worse than most because both sides leak gas, not just the pump, and both have visible with naked eye fractures that leak gas. I cannot understand how is my risk of fire and death while driving less than that of other MB's with exactly the same failure, in the same class, and the same C300, for the same year. I expect the cost of repair with labor to be more than $3,500 .Read more

MB USA extended the warranty coverage on the low pressure fuel hoses that connects to the high pressure fuel pump. The reason is "under certain cold ambient conditions during a cold start of the engine, the low pressure fuel hose at that connection may experience slight fuel weeping". MB USA, however, ruled out a safety risk. NHTSA needs to investigate it. If MB USA found the fuel pressure line is
... defective, they needed to do a recall. I believe it must be a recall as fuel leaks is not only a safety risk but also a serious health hazard to the occupants. What if the occupants have sinusitis and don't smell well. What if the leaks is too small to smell enough but can still be a health issue.Read more

It has been nearly two years I have stopped driving my 2003 Mercedes SL500, although I only have about 80,000 miles on the car. This is due to ABC warning light(red display: please drive carefully)comes on intermittently and the car drives very bouncy and it feels the car has no shocks, definitely feeling it would be unsafe to drive. The diagnostic message comes up saying "visit workshop". This is
... the third time this ABC pump issue is stopping me from driving the car, since it first appeared when I had 29,000 miles on the car which was under manufacturer warranty (50,000 miles or four years) and the dealership replaced the ABC pump and also replaced the engine mounts. The ABC red light appeared again when I had about 51,000 miles on the car. It happened also the engine mounts were in need of replacement again. As the Warranty was only for 50,000 miles, Mercedes refused to repair the ABC pump and the engine mounts under warranty and finally I agreed to a 50% cost to me to have repairs done. I expressed my opinion that the ABC pump and the engine mounts had engineering and manufacturing defect and they should have 50,000 miles warranty as the original warranty, from the time of replacement. Regrettably, same ABC malfunction and engine mounts became an issue at 78,000 miles and now the dealer and Mercedes refuse to replace the ABC pump and engine mounts under warranty and have given an estimate of $7336.36 for the necessary replacement of parts, including labor, but excluding taxes. To divert attention from ABC pump, the dealer is now referring to the problem as "power Steering pump"I have extensively researched the issues and it appears the mentioned problems with my car are prevailing issues with other Mercedes 2003 SL 500, and there are 100's of owners who feel Mercedes is not taking responsibility for replacement and repair of these defective parts under warranty. My car is unsafe to drive. There should be a recall by Mercedes to fix these dangerous to drive cars.Read more

Next day morning, on the way to work on I-17, vehicle lost the power while merging onto Freeway. Almost got hit a by trailer truck which was right behind me. Moved back to right lane and slowly drove to work. Check engine light came on after few minutes of driving. Took the vehicle to repair on August 6th to a local dealer. This time they didn't charge me for the repair and said it's covered under warranty. I don't have any warranty. Seems like it's a design issue with turbo charge air hose and/or a faulty part. It's a real safety issue if it blown in the middle of driving.Read more
