It first appeared at around 30k miles, then the engine light disappeared. At around 40k, it starts to intermittently appears and disappears, most of the time the engine light was off, my mechanics checked at it, said
... it was not uncommon to see this problem with Mercedes and said it won't affect driving. At around 50k it starts to appear more often, still intermittently. I got a second opinion with another mechanics, was told again that he saw this happening commonly with Mercedes. Crankcase alone cannot be replaced, I'll need to replace the whole thing which part cost 750+, with 1200+ labor at an independent service center, and the local mercedes dealer quote double the price.Read more

Brakes failed without warning. Repair shop removed the covering over brake lines and said they were rusted through. Towed to Mercedes dealership thinking it was part of recall and they said it wasn’t only the brake booster. Said nothing about rusted through brake lines! Someone’s going to get seriously injured driving not knowing their brake lines are rusted through.

The Rear Subframe of the car rotted out, making the car dangerous to drive. This problem has been identified by Mercedes and IS considered a safety hazard in Canada and Europe. This problem should also be covered here in the USA. Unfortunately Mercedes Benz USA will not offer any help here, instead trying to charge customers more than $7,000.00 for the repair. A frame should last the lifetime of
... a car, especially when the rest of the car has no to little rust on it. The Subframe is available for inspection, broken suspension puts everyone in and around the car at risk while it is on the road. This issue was inspected and confirmed by a local Mercedes dealer and a local mechanic. There were absolutely no warnings of the issue before it happened.Read more

The vehicle felt like it was all over the road at highway speeds. Took it to a mechanic and the rear subframe had become weakened with premature rust. The mounting point for one of the rear suspension arms had broken off of the subframe and was making contact with my gas tank. I called the dealer to see if there were any recalls. No recalls for this issue however there are a few reports on thi

During planned car service my mechanics discovered that rear subframe is broken and is not safe to drive anymore. CEL on, P052e code for crankcase ventilation/PCV failure. Vehicle has about 55k miles. Extremely common failure on these vehicles at this mileage and expensive/complicated to repair. Incident date: Jan 1, 2023
Fuel/Propulsion System - There is a gas leaking from somewhere above the gas tank. I did not have this fixed yet because I see a recall for this but my VIN wasn't included in the initial recall. There are 17 other complaints on here for the same issue but we haven't been included in the recall as of today 1/2/2023. The recall that fixed other 2011 GLK 350s is NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V557000 (FUEL
... SYSTEM, GASOLINE). My car is available for inspection upon request. I am very afraid of a fire because the tray underneath the car on the passenger side is full of gas & the tray is right over the exhaust. I stuck a large cotton swab in the tray to soak up the liquid & since it smelled like gas I tried to light it. It caught on fire immediately. This is definitely a safety hazard as it can ignite if a spark or lit cigarette would happen to bounce up in there. Yes it is unlikely but I have seen stranger things. The tray holds a large amount of gas and is directly under the gas tank. The check engine light came on and the diagnostic machine says fuel evap control system leak. A mechanic looked at the leak after taking the rear passenger tire off and finding the gas pooling in that tray. Odometer reads 145,000.Read more

Incident date: Dec 14, 2022
On December 14, 2022 at approximately 3:45 pm in rush hour traffic in the high speed lane on i-75 in Bradenton, Fl, the 2014 Mercedes C250 I was driving lost total engine power, traveling from 80mph to 0 in seconds. I had just enough time because of the momentum of the speed I was traveling at to maneuver the car into the breakdown lane adjacent to a median construction site. Had I been traveling
... in the middle lane there would have been insufficient time to change lanes in heavy, fast traveling traffic and get to a breakdown lane. In other words, we could have been killed. There was no check engine light nor warning lights of any kind. The engine was quiet and there was no engine rattling noise or shuddering prior to the incident during over 7 hours of travel from Marietta, Georgia into Florida. The car had been purchased from a used car dealer in Marietta two days before and had passed the Georgia emissions test on 11/18/22. We had the car towed to a Mercedes Benz dealership 20 miles away in Sarasota. On 12/16/22 Mercedes mechanics deemed the catastrophic engine failure to be due to a broken timing chain (this was confirmed in a conversation12/21 with Mercedes Sarasota Service Manager Jim Foulkrod) and that there was no compression in the engine. Among the codes which came up during Mercedes multi-point inspection was 036562, exhaust cam signal and 34164. Mercedes’ estimate to fix the car was $24,222.13. We declined to move forward with engine repairs. Mercedes was threatening to charge storage fees so the car was donated to the charity, Veteran Car Donations, Heroes on the Water which towed the car on 12/20/22. The car remains with the charity awaiting title transfer information.Read more

While driving down the highway at approximately 55mph, my car abruptly swerved left nearly causing an accident with the vehicle in the opposite line. I investigated this issue online and it seems t
... o be a very common issue in which no recall has been issued. This is a very serious safety issue that very easily could have resulted in a fatality on myself or other and future failures. It is my understanding that Mercedes Benz has a 30-year corrosion warranty but the subframe is not covered. How can this be?Read more

I was teaching my 16 year old son how to drive when he got his learners permit . When we got onto the highway a car cut him off and he had to apply a firm steady brake . I looked around the vehicle and noticed where the rear driver side subframe connected to the control arm broke off from a manufacturer defective weld or poor selection of materials . component. Upon inspection both sides are perforated and have lost structural integrity. Many other vehicles of the model type have reported similar issues online. This is a serious safety concern that will happen to 100% of these vehicles. A recall needs to be issued by Mercedes for this immediately. This vehicle has very little rust anywhere except at these connections .Read more

... in the process of the car being serviced for an unrelated emissions recall. Many Mercedes owners report having severe rear subframe and brake line corrosion issues on message boards. Some reported their cars unexpectedly sway and drift to one side while breaking. In multiple European countries, Mercedes is apparently aware of the problem and is voluntarily replacing the rear subframe for free. However, in the USA, Mercedes is quoting their customers approximately 6,000 to 7,000 to rectify the issue. Without NHTSAs intervention, dealer service departments will continue to profit from the failure of this critical component. Customers unprepared to pay for such a significant repair will defer maintenance until they can afford to address the matter. Some of these cars will be dumped at trade in and passed on to unsuspecting consumers. Those consumers may be your friends and loved ones. We need government to step in and protect the public interest. “If not you, then who? If not now, when?”Read more
