While driving on the 91 freeway in the Fasttrack lanes, this warning displayed on the dashboard: "Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive." ... ry fortunate to find a construction zone that allowed us to pull the car into a safe spot. Once the car was stopped, it would not start and had to be towed to the dealer (Cardinal Way Hyundai in Corona, CA) on May 8. The dealer ran diagnostics and sent the codes to Hyundai tech center. The tech center advised the dealer to update the system software. After updating the software the dealer returned the car to me on May 9. Previously, on Aug 17, 2020, I had the same warning light “Hybrid System Warning!...” while driving on the highway. I was able to take an exit and park the car safely. I had to get it towed to the same dealer. The dealer reported that the diagnostic “measured resistance at safety plug. Found open circuit. Replaced safety plug.” The car was fixed and returned to me on the same day. It is completely unacceptable to have a car shut down without any warning in the middle of the freeway. If we had stopped in the middle of the freeway, it would have resulted in a very bad accident and could have resulted in loss of life. The tow truck driver told us that he has towed many Hyundai or Kia hybrid cars with similar issues. This problem seems to be a systematic and Hyundai should be subject to recall these cars to fix this dangerous problem. Hyundai needs to make sure that the car owner is provided sufficient warning of any impending problems with the hybrid system. Furthermore, the onboard communication system in the Sonata hybrid is outdated and does not work, so no diagnostic reports are generated. Hyundai needs to provide free replacement of the comm system.Read more

Anytime I drive down a moderately steep hill, the transmission down shifts to a lower gear and the RPMs go above 5000. It seems to get stuck in this gear for a bit of time. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition coils and wiring harness needed to be replaced. Additionally, the knock sensor detection system (KSDS) software was upgraded; however, the failure recurred. No warning lights were illuminated. Electronic traction control system fails to deliver power correctly when the vehicle is passing over icy ruts. The system incorrectly delivers additional power to wheels that have lost grip causing unpredictable driving behavior, which startles the driver. It happened after starting the vehicle one morning (April 25, 2023). Additionally, the light on the touch screen remained on when the motor was turned off, causing drain of the battery and leaving me stranded. I had to call emergency services to help me. I had to purchase a new battery because of this along with the purchase of a new radio component as well as pay for re-programming of the system. Total cost of this incident was $1,400.71. This morning, I had the software upgrade patch applied to my 2020 Kia Sorento that was supposed to fix the potential theft issue. After that service appointment, I started a 2 hour road trip. ... ed. I was able to lock the car manually, but had I not paid attention, someone could have snuck into my unlocked car. Later in the roadtrip, I needed to clean my windshield using wiperfluid and wipers. I sprayed the wiper fluid, but to my surprise the windshield wipers did not activate. I tried all the settings on the stick to activate the wipers, but they did not activate. I was driving 70mph on a highway and could not see. This was a huge safety problem. Luckily this was momentary as the speed cleared the wiper fluid. But had it been raining, I would not have been able to see which is unsafe for me, my passengers and those around me. Third, I noticed that my headlights were not working as expected. The Auto setting did not seem to be activating as normal. After playing with it, it appears that the Auto and Off settings on the lights seem to be switched. This is unsafe because drivers rely on that Auto setting to turn the lights on when it is necessary. They may think the lights are on when they are not and are not able to be seen by other drivers. By the time I realized these things, the service department at the dealership was already closed. I have tried to leave them a voicemail, but their phone is not set up to accept that. It is the same issue and I am being told by everyone that they are not responsible for the repair. The car will not start and had to be towed to REA Ford in Monticello where it is currently sitting. The check engine light came on. I took it to be diagnosed and was told this is the issue. I was told that they could not identify where the leak was until it got to the point that the car was having more difficulty starting and running. The car is now unable to start. My safety was impacted because I was told it was safe to drive but around March 15th, the vehicle would not exceed 6 miles per hour and just stopped moving. The engine seized up. The issue may be due to a design problem with all Kia engines. Here's what the service technician at the Kia dealership told me: 1) There is a pin on the cam shaft that keeps it in place; 2) Over time it moves, and gets sheared off; 3) When the pin is sheared off, the cam shaft spins out of time; 4) That causes the valves to slam into the pistons and bends the valves;
... 5) After the valves are bent, the engine has no compression; 6) The engine needs to be replaced or the car needs to be junked. The service tech says he had seen it happen quite a bit with all Kia models. In other words, it's a design flaw. There are other ways to keep the cam shaft in place, which are used by other manufacturers.Read more

1st Issue: Antilock brake failure Brand new 2022 Bronco purchased mid Dec with around 2000 miles in February the brakes failed to stop with the pedal to the floor at traffic light and finally all 4 wheels locked up skidding into traffic. Luckily no accident. Repaired took 3 weeks to get the part. 2nd Issue: May 1st Powertrain malfunction at 3000 miles pulled up to a stop sign the engine shut off.

I was pulling out into the road, and the Engine cutout, then slowly came back. I did some investigation, and the truck transmission cooler lines had corroded through. Luckily I was not in heavy traffic. There had been no obvious signs of failure. I've owned numerous other vehicles while living in Northeaster NY with no major corrosion failures.
