2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE350, VIN [XXX]. While driving, the vehicle intermittently displays multiple warning lights/messages and the power-steering assistance intermittently becomes heavy/stiff. The warnings rapidly appear and disappear and the problem can occur repeatedly while the vehicle is being driven. Pressing/tapping around the front passenger-side floor/kick-panel area can sometimes cause the
... warnings to clear. The problem appears more frequently in hot daytime conditions and can occur after the vehicle has been running. The engine continues running normally during the events. The vehicle has previously displayed communication-related faults. Mercedes-Benz previously performed Campaign 2023010002 involving inspection for water intrusion in the spare-wheel well; that repair order states no moisture was found in that location and the indicated drain grommet was replaced. The current problem persists. I am concerned because the intermittent loss/reduction of power-steering assistance while driving creates a safety risk. I am also aware of NHTSA Campaign 17V-241 involving water intrusion at the electric power-steering connector and loss of steering assistance on certain Mercedes vehicles. My VIN currently shows no open recalls. I am reporting my vehicle's symptoms so NHTSA can evaluate whether this represents a similar or related safety defect. Incident date: Aug 24, 2026
The vehicle has experienced recurring intermittent failures of Active Brake Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist. The systems may function normally and then unexpectedly become unavailable, with warning messages appearing in the vehicle. The primary driver was nearly involved in an accident during one occurrence when Active Brake Assist unexpectedly became unavailable. No collision occurred, but t
... he loss of the braking-assistance function created a serious safety concern. The problem has been inspected by authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers on multiple occasions. During an April 2026 dealer visit, the dealer documented both the Blind Spot and Active Brake Assist warnings, stored communication fault codes involving the front radar sensor/DISTRONIC, a bent front radar sensor bracket, and a loose front grille. The problem later recurred, and the vehicle was returned to a Mercedes-Benz dealer on August 27, 2026. The vehicle remains at the dealership and is available for inspection. The dealer now states that the front radar/module mounting bracket is cracked and attributes the condition to outside impact. The vehicle has never been in an accident and there is no visible damage to the front emblem or exterior front of the vehicle. When asked how the dealer determined that an impact caused the bracket damage, the owner was told that the DTC report supported that conclusion, but the dealer declined to provide a copy of the report. During the same discussion, a Mercedes-Benz service consultant stated that the bracket is very flimsy and can crack from something as minor as leaning on the vehicle. This raises concern that the mounting bracket for a safety-related radar system may be unusually susceptible to damage during ordinary use. The recurring failures affect systems related to collision warning, automatic braking assistance, and blind spot detection. The vehicle and affected components remain with the Mercedes-Benz dealer and should be available for inspection.Read more

On 8/5/2026, the power boost on the vehicle was lost while at a nearby shopping center. Braking became very difficult and it was dangerous to drive even a little distance. There were no warning lights from the vehicle. We had it towed to an independent repair shop where they determined the brake booster had failed. They did a recall check and saw that it didn't apply to our specific vehicle. They
... repaired it which cost $2500. Later, we did research and found that there is an expanded recall, 22V315000, which includes our year, make, and model! Our vehicle brake booster failed in the same manner as expressed in that recall. I still have the failed brake booster itself. We'd like you to have Mercedes expand the recall to include our vehicle as well as those with similarly sourced brake boosters. I called Mercedes customer service and they simply confirmed that our vehicle wasn't covered by the recall but to contact NHTSA to file a complaint to start the inclusion process.Read more

The center console display (MBUX) on this 2023 EQS 450 4MATIC fails while the vehicle is in use. There is no warning lamp, chime or message first. Sometimes it flickers on and off; other times it goes fully blank and stays blank, unresponsive to touch. Owner video shows the display working and then completely blank 0.4 seconds later. When the screen is blank the rearview backup camera is unavaila
... ble. Selecting reverse produces no image at all. The rear camera image appears only on that center screen, so the failure removes the rear visibility required by FMVSS 111 and leaves the driver reversing with no camera view in parking garages, driveways and residential streets. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer has reproduced and confirmed the failure across five visits, from 7,916 miles in August 2025 to 20,789 miles in August 2026, with 28 days out of service. In May 2026 (RO 1410670) the dealer diagnosed fault B159211, a short circuit to ground on the data line between the head unit and the central display, removed the dashboard and replaced a harness. The technician reported that instead of removing the original short-circuited harness he cut off its connector ends, taped the exposed cables and left that harness inside the vehicle. The failure recurred ten weeks later and was recorded on video on 29 July 2026. On the most recent visit (RO 1418392, 26 August to 3 September 2026) the dealer wrote "tech confirmed customer concern," reviewed the video, and recorded fault B162997: the data line between the reversing camera and the head unit has a malfunction. The entire central display was replaced. The defect has survived a software reflash, a harness replacement and a display replacement. This vehicle was previously repurchased by the manufacturer under California lemon law for a defective rearview camera and was certified in writing as fully repaired before resale. The vehicle, the video and all repair orders are available for inspection on request.Read more

I am reporting a potential safety defect involving the locking/key-detection system in my 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300. On [XXX], at approximately [XXX] p.m. in Coral Ridge, Fort Lauderdale, I secured my young son in his car seat. My purse, containing the key fob, and my phone were on the front passenger seat. I closed the door and walked around to the driver's side. The vehicle had locked all doors b
... y itself. I did not press the lock button or intentionally lock the vehicle. There were no warning lights, messages, alerts, or other symptoms beforehand. My [XXX] son was trapped inside the locked vehicle, and both my key and phone were also inside, leaving me unable to access him or call for help. I flagged down a passing car, and we ultimately had to break a window to reach him. The vehicle has not been inspected by Mercedes-Benz, a dealer, police, insurance, or an independent service center, and the issue has not been reproduced or confirmed. After replacing the window, I have not attempted to recreate the incident because of the safety risk. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. I am concerned that the vehicle can lock with the key fob inside the passenger side, creating a potentially serious risk if a child or vulnerable occupant is trapped inside, particularly in hot weather or where immediate assistance is unavailable. My 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e displayed a “48V battery malfunction” warning on or about July 1, 2026, while the vehicle was less than one year old. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership and remained there until approximately July 20. Mercedes-Benz USA became involved, and the dealership ultimately stated that the malfunction had been corrected through a software upda

I have not received documentation clearly identifying the specific software update, campaign, operation number, underlying failure mechanism, or pre- and post-repair diagnostic results establishing that the reported malfunction was caused and resolved by software. I am therefore unable to determine whether the battery or another component of the 48V system was defective, or whether the warning was merely cleared. In late August, I also heard a new and pronounced whirring sound near the left-front area of the vehicle after charging. A different authorized dealership charged the high-voltage battery to 100%, attempted to reproduce the sound, and found no charging-system fault codes or abnormal noise. It characterized the sound as normal post-charge cooling operation and performed no repair. I am submitting this complaint because of the original 48V malfunction, the lack of documentation identifying exactly what failed and what software remedy was performed, and the possible relevance to a previously closed NHTSA investigation involving Mercedes-Benz battery-related concerns. Please associate this complaint with any applicable closed investigation and evaluate whether this incident constitutes additional relevant field evidence.Read more

My 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e displayed a “48V battery malfunction” warning on or about July 1, 2026, while the vehicle was less than one year old. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership and remained there until approximately July 20. Mercedes-Benz USA became involved, and the dealership ultimately stated that the malfunction had been corrected through a software upda
... te. The 48V battery was not replaced. The vehicle was involved in a collision on January 26, 2023. I am not claiming that the computer malfunction caused that collision. After the collision, while I continued operating the vehicle, problems developed with the vehicle’s computer, electronic control system, and instrument cluster. The instrument display could become dark or unavailable, and a CHECK ENGINE warning was present. This pre
... vented reliable access to important information such as vehicle speed, warnings, and operating status. I brought the vehicle to a repair facility expecting a complete inspection and repair. An insurance inspector was expected to inspect and document the vehicle before repairs, but the inspector did not arrive after I waited for the entire day. I was told that the inspector would not be available the following days and would come only when available. Relying on the instructions I received, I left the vehicle at the repair facility. I authorized a complete repair, not an incomplete or partial repair. Nevertheless, the vehicle was only partially repaired, and the computer and instrument-cluster condition remained unresolved. A Mercedes-Benz dealer later documented a CHECK ENGINE condition and that the instrument cluster was showing dark, identified an instrument-cluster malfunction, and recommended further repair or replacement. I objected to taking back and operating a vehicle with an unresolved computer and instrument-display malfunction. I was concerned that losing access to speed, warning messages, or other critical information while driving could endanger me, my passengers, and other road users. I requested that the safety-related problem be fully diagnosed and repaired, but the vehicle was presented for return with the condition unresolved. The vehicle and its repair and diagnostic records should be obtained and examined to determine the cause of the electronic and instrument-cluster malfunction. The computer malfunction began approximately February 9-10, 2023.Read more

My check-engine light recently illuminated, and diagnostic testing identified fault code P06DA00, relating to the oil pump control valve circuit. I was quoted the following by Mercedes Servuce in Manchester, NH- Oil Pressure Regulator Valve: need to remove lower oil pan only to access oil control valve and replac

I intend to keep and drive this vehicle for many more years, which makes it particularly disappointing to encounter a repair of this magnitude for a component that is not considered a routine maintenance or wear item.Read more

My vehicle is subject to NHTSA Recall 26V216 involving the drive shaft universal joint. In March 2025, before the recall was announced, Mercedes-Benz of Carlsbad diagnosed my vehicle with a front driveline/drive shaft problem. I later paid $2,575 to have the drive shaft replaced using genuine Mercedes-Benz parts. Mercedes-Benz later sent me a recall notice stating that customers who already paid
... to correct the recall condition may be eligible for reimbursement. On May 27, 2026, I started the reimbursement process through Mercedes-Benz of Carlsbad. I submitted everything Mercedes requested, including the repair invoice, proof of payment, and documentation showing genuine Mercedes-Benz parts were used. When additional documentation was requested, I provided it. I was told I had submitted all required documents. However, Mercedes-Benz will not enter my claim into the reimbursement review process because the recall campaign is not yet “open” and the remedy is not yet available. Mercedes-Benz Star Support told the dealer: “Reimbursement can be claimed after campaign is in open status.” I escalated the issue with Mercedes-Benz USA and received the same answer. My concern is that this prevents the 60-day review process from even starting. 49 C.F.R. §573.13(g)(1) states: “The manufacturer shall act upon a claim for reimbursement within 60 days of its receipt.” If a claim is incomplete, §573.13 also requires the manufacturer to identify the missing documentation within 60 days. I was told I submitted everything required. I am not asking NHTSA to determine whether I am entitled to reimbursement or the amount. I am asking NHTSA to review whether Mercedes-Benz can accept all required claim documents but refuse to process the claim until the campaign becomes “open,” effectively postponing the 60-day process indefinitely. I do not need a future recall repair. I already paid to have my drive shaft replaced. My concern is that Mercedes-Benz has all the requested reimbursementRead more

I am the owner of a 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB that has been identified as being affected by the current high-voltage battery safety recall. I have a significant concern regarding the parking instruction. My vehicle is normally parked in an attached garage at my condominium. The garage is connected to my residence, and my HOA does not permit me to park the vehicle outside. Therefore, I do not have a practical way to comply with the instruction to park outside and away from structures. I specifically raised this issue with the service department. I was told verbally that I could continue parking the vehicle in my garage “at my discretion.”Read more
