> I have a 2018 Mazda CX-9 with about 70,000 miles on it. Since 2020 this vehicle started developing cracks in the infotainment center screen. I only had about 23,000 miles on it at that time. the cracks are now starting to obscure my back up camera, communication system and nav system displays causing a safety issue. It is distracting to not be able to see clearly on this screen and I am afraid s
... omething will happen to me or my kids. About a year ago I did take this car to the local mazda dealer, for the longest time I thought I did something to it, but I did not. They called mazda customer service and no good will was offered. there is a technical service bulletin out but not a recall. There are several models older than my vehicle that have had this screen repaired free of charge by mazda. Same issue - nothing different then what is going on with my car. There are many many of the very same complaints online. can some please investigate this issue. it is ridiculous.Read more

The cylinder head has cracked and it leaks antifreeze. This can cause the vehicle to overheat and destroy the engine. It is apparently a known issue as Mazda has issued 3 technical service bulletins addressing the problem. They have even redesigned a new part to replace the faulty one. In the TSB they even address that the crack may be caused by "stress generated during production" In other
... words, its a known problem yet they havent issued a recall on it. Im guessing they havent issued a recall because the quote for the repair was $5000. At $5000 to repair the faulty part it would be quite the expensive recall for the company.Read more

I took delivery of a 2022 Mazda CX-30 recently, and noticed that the windshield was very distorted. Moving my head caused the image to shift in unexpected ways. The windshield was noticeably wavy and caused double vision. The dealer replaced the windshield, but the replacement is also noticeably wavy, with an almost orange peel look through the new windshield. The new windshield also distorts the
... active driving display as well, which was not apparent on the original. When I complained about the replacement, the dealer's service manager said that what I am experiencing is "normal", and that "all CX-30s are this way", even though he previously admitted that he had never seen it before, and that the CX-50 he was driving did not have this issue at all. I see that Mazda has a technical service bulletin for this problem for older model CX-30s. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10203731-0001.pdf It seems that Mazda has not fixed this issue, as it is very noticeable on my 2022 model CX-30. I can understand that glass will be refractive under extreme angles, but this is when I'm looking directly ahead. If I move my head at all, the image bends and distorts. Unfortunately, the issue does not lend itself well to photos, as it is most noticeable when you have both eyes open (two eyes see through the glass at slightly different angles and points on the glass). If I close one eye, I no longer get double vision, but I doubt that's the safest way to drive.Read more

The rear backup camera on my vehicle goes on and off or dims considerably when I back up, not allowing me to see cars and people potentially behind me. This is associated, I believe, with an issue with the screen and infotainment system of the car, which I had checked out on 9/24/21 at a Mazda dealership. The screen goes on and off constantly, not allowing me to use the radio, bluetooth, etc. They
... said it is a chip issue that they have seen in many other Mazda 3's from 2016. Not being able to listen to the radio is one thing, but having the backup camera not work or work improperly is a safety issue.Read more

Last month, my vehicle suddenly applied the electronic parking brake (EPB) while I was driving. The EPB & related warning lights illuminated & would not release until the vehicle was turned off. After turning off the vehicle, the EPB motor could be heard applying the brake to the rear wheels. When the car was restarted, the EPB would remain off for a period of time but would then suddenly reapply.
... I took my vehicle to a Mazda dealer & they determined the calipers & EPB motor had failed due to my vehicle not being placed in service mode by the brake servicer. This explanation makes no sense because the brakes were replaced over a year ago (& not since) with thousands of miles being driven since then without this issue arising. I also conducted my own research & found that Mazda has issued at least 3 separate technical service bulletins (TSB) on this issue. The first two recommended replacement of the EPB switch & the third determined that defective calipers were the cause and should be replaced. I asked the dealer to save my calipers & confirmed that they are part of the defective batch noted in this TSB. I have contacted Mazda (including their legal counsel) & they are unwilling to provide any explanation or engage in any sort of investigation. As former legal counsel for an automotive company, I believe this presents a serious safety issue for consumers based upon the fact that a parking brake could randomly engage while driving & cause sudden loss of speed/control. Thankfully, this did not result in harm to my family, myself or others. I am certain that this issue is affecting others based on chatboard discussions I have found online related to this topic (which helped me find the TSB). I am concerned that Mazda may have attempted to undertake a silent recall via this TSB where in warranty customers are covered & out of warranty customers are given the 'service mode' explanation to justify their responsibility. This should have been handled as a recall by Mazda.Read more

Hello, I am writing to you for a possible failure post update to the software as specified in Recall 19V-497 dated 09/06/2022 found on the manufacturer's recall website (https://www.mazdarecallinfo.com/). The status is marked as CLOSED. However, I faced the exact problem yesterday as described in the Safety Risk section of the recall details on their website (Summary section on NHTSA website).
... Below is my best attempt to describe my event: Event: I made a stop at a red light. As it turned green, I accelerated and the engine shut off/stalled. I pushed the engine stop button, switched gear to "P", and the car won't start at all. I was also not able to press the brake or accelerator. I was not able to move the gearstick. Safety risk: My car stalled in the middle of the road. It was a busy junction. If this occurred on a highway, it is possible this may lead to serious injuries or death. After-events: I got the car towed to the dealership where I was told by the service crew that the car worked fine. I was sent a video of multipoint inspection with recommended additional services, a business that I understand. However, they were not able to identify the cause of the engine stall. I decided to check recall information and found this recall (19V-497) with status as CLOSED. But this is the exact problem I faced yesterday. Therefore, either/some/all of the below cases are possible: 1. The status is marked incorrectly as CLOSED 2. The date of recall on the website is misleading; this recall was placed 06/27/2019. 3. My service did not actually service the recall (I service my car every 5000 miles) 4. The recall failed to resolve the engine stall issue. 5. Issue may not be related to failure of this recall remediation; meaning, service did not perform a root-cause inspection of the problem itself. Vehicle has had excessive oil consumption. Engine consumes approximately one quart of oil every 4k miles or so with normal driving not spirited. Vehicle has no visible signs of outward leaks. First oil change was at 5030 miles with approximately 5.2 quarts of Castrol edge full synthetic oil and a Purolator boss oil filter PLB14612. Vehicle currently has 9352 miles. I have not let it get to a poin

This has not been confirmed by a dealer or independent service center as I maintain the oil checks and oil changes myself. Tailpipes do have black soot inside but is not greasy or oily. I haven't noticed a lot of smoke from tailpipes just a small bit of whitish vapor that quickly dissipates when my wife pulls it out of the driveway and starts off down the road that I contribute to normal condensation, but I nor she can see tailpipes when we are driving a longer distance of course. I haven't smelled oil burn or seen any leaks on driveway, but the oil is going somewhere. I have seen a TSB from Mazda about possible valve stem seal problems with my VIN number. I hope Mazda will resolve this within my warranty as oil consumption can cause other major engine component damage down the road i.e., catalytic convertor, oxygen sensors, carbon deposits, etc.Read more

After a few days the mechanic calls and tells me there is a coolant leak and the repairs for the Cylinder Head should be covered under my lifetime extended warranty. A few days later I get a text message from the service rep that states. "Unfortunately, the extended warranty has denied coverage of the Cylinder Head, stating it to not be an internally lubricated issue....we need to fully inspect to determine what is needed (cylinder head or full engine due to overheating) Cost of teardown $1,432." After speaking to the service rep directly he then tells me the coverage was actually denied because Mazda put out a TSB on this known issue which voided my extended warranty on the cylinder head. This TSB bulletin no.01-007/22 was just issued 2 months before this happened. We should not be responsible for a known engine issue on Mazda's flagship car after purchasing an extended warranty for this very reason.Read more

Incident date: Aug 19, 2022
The Mazda infotainment system has a problem that is known to the manufacturer and many vehicle owners. It is called "ghost touch" where the touch screen malfunctions and registers an input that is not actually made. The touch screen is not touched, but the infotainment system still reacts and changes inputs, adjusts volume, and performs other actions. This has been a major safety risk for me and m
... y family on several occasions. On several occasions, the infotainment system will be set at a reasonable volume playing music or a radio station or sometimes even off or muted. The "ghost touch" occurred and changed the volume input of the navigation system (which was not being used) to the MAXIMUM level. The car then announces that "navigation will be at this volume." The voice is extremely loud and is completely unexpected. This stated the driver and has almost caused accidents on at least three occasions. It is the equivalent of someone blasting an airhorn in your ear while you are driving. It is shocking and can cause accidents. This problem is known to the dealer and manufacturer. I have taken the vehicle for service of this issue as recently as August 23, 2022. The dealer knows the issue happens with many of its vehicles. They refuse to fix the issue in my car without charging me extraordinary amounts of money because it is out of the full warranty. The car has 44,000 miles and is a 2018 model purchased new in February 2018. They are aware that it is a critical safety issue, but they will not fix it. They have issued a recall for the same issue on another vehicle, but not on mine. This malfunction happens without warning. Again, the dealer and manufacturer are well aware of the issue, but they refuse to fix it even though it is a critical safety issue and it is covered under the implied warranty of the vehicle.Read more

The dealer says "corporate won't cover it", corporate customer service will not respond to repeated attempts at contact other than a generic "your VIN is not cover
... ed". Service alert direct from Mazda and pictures of my screen showing the EXACT issue are attached. For a $40k+ vehicle with less than 30k miles on it (less than 20k when the issue started), this is unacceptable. Please hold Mazda accountable.Read more
