I was on the Queensboro Bridge headed from Queens, NY into Manhattan on the afternoon of August 29. Weather was partly cloudy and dry conditions. Traffic was bumper to bumper and moving anywhere from 0mph to maybe 5mph. I was in the middle of the bridge driving approximately 5mph and my 2020 Mazda 3 beeped (collision warning) and applied brakes. I was almost rear ended and my two passengers we
... re jolted forward. I maintained a safe following distance the entire time. I believe a van on my left triggered my car’s actions as it passed. I was in no danger of getting into an accident although I was quite shaken up since this is the first time my car applied its brakes. I have an appointment to bring my car in and would like the automatic braking system disabled. Previously, the car from time to time has alerted of a collision always under 40mph and a previous inspection of my vehicle (after I reported collision warning activation) revealed everything was working properly.Read more

1) It happened last week on 8/30, when I drove back home after work at night. After I parked my vehicle at the driveway and I had noticed there's smoke going into the cabin through the vent. The smell was very bad, it smells like burning rubber/plastic type. Then I went underneath the car and checked, the oil dripping out from the plastic panels where the oil pan is. Next morning, I jacked the car
... up and have a deeper inspection. I have notice the oil actually leaking from the Timing belt/chain cover area. I immediately called local dealership @ Putnam Mazda and drove it in for service on 8/31. When I arrived to the service department, my whole front end was full of smoke coming out from the hood. After a hour of inspection, service advisor told me that my car is having a blown cylinder #3 and oil leaks from cracked cylinder head. They will have to order a new cylinder head from Japan for my replacement, which will take more than 2 weeks or even longer due to part shortage. This is ridiculous!!! My car only have 21,500 miles on it, and it's a 2019 model year. The advisor told me they had quite a few were having the same issue. I guess he doesn't want to give me the exact numbers. But this is a safety concerns for other Mazda customers as well. I guess it has to do with the cylinder deactivation they put into the engine which cause this problem. The recalls that they had last year was not a fix or cure. 2) This is a safety concern and putting my life on risk, the oil leaks might cause fire or create accident on the road while operating. The smoke that I suck into my system may cause permanent damage to my lung and my health concern. 3) Problem had been confirmed with dealership. Mazda should declare a recall. You can't just wait for someone have an accident or cause their life to correct the issue. 4) The vehicle is at the servicer dept. and been inspected. 5) This is critical, I don't have any engine light or any indication. Even my scanner detected no code.Read more

The infotainment system fails to work - it is where I can access information re: maintenance schedule, or any info that is associated with a lit engine light. In addition the charging system for my mobile phone has ceased working. This includes both the usb ports and the lighter port which can be adapted with a charger that works in that receptable. If I needed assistance, I would be unable to contact anyone without a working cell phone. Because the display also controls the ability to pair a phone with blue tooth, there is concern for other drivers of the Mazda 3 (mine is a 2016) will be using the phone regardless of the bluetooth malfunction. I have seen a safety recall on other Mazda's with relation to the infotainment screen, but I do not see one here. I wonder why? To repair this crucial component would cost many hundreds of dollars -- something I am not in a position to do. Mazda claims this infotainment center is not under warranty, but with so much important information and safety features embedded into it, I think it should be corrected by recall. Thank you for investigating this issue. ReginaRead more

My 2014 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring has recently started experiencing an issue widely reported online related to the battery. The issue is the electrical/ignition system fails to turn the battery off when the vehicle is turned off. In other words, the car engine shuts down, but the accessory power (battery) remains on. This can be identified by the clock and dashboard display remaining on. This i
... s a significant issue because unless the battery is turned off, it will become drained, and the car will fail to start. This can leave the driver stranded and the car incapacitated. It is very easy to fail to notice the accessory power is still on. I have reported the issue to Mazda at the customer line - 1800-222-5500 and they have no outstanding warranties or recalls related to this. My reference number is 1-4272020134. I have also contacted a local Mazda dealer and they are unfamiliar with the issue. Per customer reports, the issue is related to a faulty sensor on the battery. To reproduce the issue: 1) Put car in park 2) Push power button. Car engine turns off. Battery remains on. The only workaround is to turn the car back on, shift into different gears and turn power off. At some random iteration, it will power the battery off. There are numerous reports of this online, including - https://www.mazdas247.com/forum/t/cx-5-wont-fully-shut-off.123864884/ Solution - https://mazda.oemdtc.com/665/ignition-does-not-turn-off-when-pressing-startstop-button-2013-2014-mazdaRead more

The Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) system performs poorly (it does not hold a set speed well up and down hill; compared to our 2006 Mazda3), but the safety concern is the forceful, sudden, and not-always-predictable braking the vehicle does even if there is not another vehicle in front of us. It seems to be related to the MRCC, as no "Brake!" warning accompanies the unwanted brake application. I've contacted Mazda numerous times; they recommended taking it to the dealer. I have--they can find nothing wrong. All of this seems related to a MRCC update (SSP C5) that was done to smooth the MRCC's operation. It did fix the sudden deceleration and acceleration when following other vehicles, but now is worse in other aspects. I may be wrong, but it all seems to be a software issue, so it's not surprising that the dealer can find "no concerns". The root cause has to do with door trim seals. Under the "CASUE", this TSB reads, "When driving under following conditions, a negative pressure generated on the doors pulls them outside. The counterforce exerted by the weatherstrips mounted on the doors is lower than the sucking force, resulting in weatherstrip vibration. -The vehicle is exposed to a side wind while driving at a speed higher than 160km/h -The vehicle is exposed to a strong side wind while driving at a speed higher than 120km/h."Read more

Oftentimes when driving at speeds of approximately 80mph or more, a loud whining/whistling noise appears. It appears to be coming from the area of driver side front door, passenger side front door, both front doors simultaneously. The issue has an earlier onset in the presence of crosswind, or headwind. I was able to record several videos where the noise can be heard very clearly. Some of these v
... ideos have been posted online: https://vimeo.com/547826873 https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/580602909 and the links have been shared both with my local Mazda dealership (Oak Tree Mazda by DGDG in San Jose, CA: 4250 Stevens Creek Blvd, San Jose, CA 95129) as well as with Mazda of North America. However, my complaints have been ignored as the dealership keeps stating that they are "unable to duplicate problem". Component - Rear subframe/crossmember. Yes it is available for inspection. I was driving and suddenly heard a loud crack and the rear drivers side of my vehicle dropped to the ground. I was getting ready to pull into a parking lot so I was luckily driving slowly. If I were traveling at the normal speed limit, I could have wrecked and possibly caused injury to myself or others on the road. Upon
... inspection from the mechanic, the rear subframe is completely rusted out and broke as a result. After research, I found that the front subframe/crossmember was recalled in 2018 for rust issues. This car had the recalled repaired. But Mazda has no recall for the rear. There were no warnings that this was going to happen.Read more

Driving on I-5, near Gold Hill, Oregon, when the traction control system light came on and the Vehicle slowed down. I had to push the gas pedal to the floor to get the car to move and I could not shift gears! It shuddered and the wheels seemed to lock up. I could smell burning rubber. I forced the car to the next exit, pulled off and shut it down. I sat there waiting for it to cool off. When I sta
... rted it again it was a little rough at first but then seemed to get better and I was able to get home. I bought the car in June of 2020 from Lithia Motors in Medford, Oregon. I also bought a Power Train Warranty For $2,500 which was set to expire on 6/10/2021. I called Lithia and made an appointment to take it to them for repairs on June 1, 2021. I got as far as Grants Pass, OR, and it did the same thing I described above. I called a tow truck and had it towed to Lithia in Medford. When I got to Medford, the Service Manager told me I would have to take it to Crater Lake Ford. When I got to Crater Lake Ford I was told to take it to Crater Lake Mazda which I did. I described in detail what the car was doing to.the Service.Manager and told him I feared it was some kind of transmission problem. I also told him I had a power Train. Warranty the would expire on June10thso time was no the essence! I never suspected the brakes because we had the bakes repaired in November of 2020 at Lithia Motors. They were making a hissing sound. They replaced the.brake booster among other brake parts for $1,300 plus. That job was still under warranty. I got a call on June 15th telling me the problem was in the gear shift. He said it was now repaired and I could come and pick it up. I paid $674 for that repair. I got three miles from the dealership and the original problem occurred. I had it towed back to Mazda and it has been there ever since!! They replaced they're (traction control module), but that didn't fix it. After test driving it the original problem occurred! It's still at Mazda.Read more
