Dealership Responsible: Ted Britt Ford of Chantilly Dealership Address: 4175 Auto Park Cir, Chantilly, VA 20151 Complaint Details: I purchased a 2018 Lincoln Navigator L Black Label, and since then, I have experienced multiple serious mechanical failures due to an improperly performed cam phaser repair by Ted Britt Ford of Chantilly in 2020. The dealership’s service depart
... ment performed a faulty installation, which resulted in: •Missing and broken screws in the cam phaser system •Jerking, rattling, and acceleration issues •Significant engine damage requiring a complete short block replacement As a result of this in negligent repair, In 2024 I had to replace the cam phaser again, along with replacing the short block of the engine due to the extensive damage caused by the dealership’s poor workmanship. In addition to this issue, I have faced multiple other failures, including: •Valve body replacement •Wastegate failure •Rear heat stopped working •Steering column failure These problems have caused frequent breakdowns and safety concerns, making the vehicle unreliable. The constant need for repairs raises serious questions about the quality of Lincoln’s engineering and service network. This issue is not an isolated incident, and I strongly urge NHTSA to investigate potential defects in the 2018 Lincoln Navigator and to hold dealerships accountable for performing unsafe and defective repairs. Requested Action: I request an investigation into the faulty cam phaser repair process and whether similar issues are being reported by other 2018 Lincoln Navigator owners. This could indicate a larger systemic defect or a trend of poor-quality repairs in Ford/Lincoln service centersRead more

On or about [XXX] my Ram 3500 showed a check engine light indicating to service the HCU/ABS system. After researching this I discovered there was a problem with the HCU/ABS in the Ram 3500. At the time there was no recall for the part. I found the part and replaced the part. On or about 1/25 I received a recall notice from the manufacturer. I proceeded to their website and submitted the requ
... ired documents for reimbursement. I was promptly denied reimbursement: "Dear Mr. [XXX] , Good day! We understand that this was not the decision that you were hoping for, and we apologize for that, but that is the decision of the company based on the information provided. There is no installation cited and it is not eligible for reimbursement. We look forward to the chance to assist you in the future, and we thank you for being a Ram customer. Regards, Therie Ram Customer Care " I called and talked to several representatives, however, they still will not reimburse for the part. I explained to the representative that I did the work myself and indicated this on the reimbursement form (did the work myself was a selection). I explained this repair was a safety issue, dealers were charging $1500-$2000 to do the repair, and the time of this issue the replacement part was on a nationwide shortage. The dealer could give me no timeframe on when they could secure the part. Due to these reasons I kept looking until I finally found the part and did the repair myself. I provided proof of purchase from the dealer, credit card statement showing payment and offered to take a picture of the old part and installed part side by side as I still have the old part. They still denied reimbursement. Is there anything you can do? It doesn't seem fair that the manufacturer of a defective part gets to make the rules for reimbursement and can deny any disputes the consumer has with their decisions. It seems the NHTSA should have a say in this. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

On January 30, 2025, around 7 PM, my Fisker Ocean experienced a critical failure while parked at Ralphs Market in California. The 12-volt battery died, which completely disabled the vehicle's door locking and unlocking mechanisms, leaving me, my elderly mother, and my young son trapped inside for about two hours. There was no manual override option to open the doors or rear hatch from the inside.
... My mother, who had a triple bypass surgery three months ago, began feeling dizzy and distressed as we remained trapped. To minimize her stress, I asked everyone to stop talking until help arrived. Even more concerning was that multiple attempts to open the doors from outside also failed. The Uber driver, my son (who was outside), and AAA all attempted to open the doors, but none of them were successful. The door handles were in the "up" position, which should have indicated that the doors were unlocked and could open, yet they remained completely stuck. Eventually, AAA arrived, but due to Fisker’s unusual hood design, I had to instruct them to remove two bolts to access the 12-volt battery before they could connect a portable charger and restore power to the doors. This is a serious safety risk that could be life-threatening in an emergency such as a fire, crash, or extreme weather event. If we had been in a more urgent situation, there would have been no way to escape. The 12-volt battery failure has happened multiple times before, but this was the first time it occurred while I was inside the vehicle, leading to entrapment. There were no warning lights or error messages prior to the failure. The vehicle simply lost power without warning, causing a total failure of all exit mechanisms. I have not yet had the vehicle inspected by a dealer or independent service center regarding the entrapment issue, but I plan to report it. However, since Fisker has filed for bankruptcy, there is no way to contact the manufacturer for assistance or resolution. I strongly urge NHTSA to inRead more

My vehicle has 84,000 miles and has regular maintenance done. On 1/20/24 my wife was driving the car when suddenly it started to make a terrible knocking sound, the oil light flashed for just a second and the check engine light came on. She was near an auto store and they checked the code, which said "replace engine block." I came with a trailer to tow it home and by then the check engine light is
... flashing when the car is turned on. I have done some research and calling to mechanics to find out that these vehicles have a major "oil consumption problem" that causes them to do this at relatively low miles and it has affected thousands of people. I also learned that as a second owner I am not within any warranty from Hyundai since I bought it 4 years ago, and I still owe $10k on the car. The estimated cost for a new engine is $10-12,000 and I can't afford to double what I owe on a car, especially when I have little faith in a new version of the same problematic engine. We are a family of 5 with small kids and jobs and are down to one vehicle. I don't understand why a recall hasn't been issued or why Hyundai isn't being held accountable for this. Thank you.Read more

I was driving to work via the [XXX] in California when at approximately 6:40am I felt a jerking motion in my 2022 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring (PHEv) and then immediately began receiving various warning lights and chimes indicating an issue. The vehicle was losing power and I was safely able to exit the freeway and pull to the side of the road. There were numerous warning indicators activated, in
... cluding Service Engine Soon, Hill Start Assist failure, Pre-Collision Assist failure, EV Battery not available, and others. I exited the vehicle to ensure that there was not any visible physical damage, and did not find anything. I checked the Owners Manual for the warnings and it indicated that if the vehicle was able to be driven, it could but with caution. I proceeded to drive to work, approximately 4.7 miles away. The vehicle could not be driven over 35 MPH without violently shaking, along with a mechanical grinding noise. Drive Control was also not active and the vehicle felt like it had no suspension. Estimated repair time was approximately 1 week per the Lincoln Concierge (LC), and no root problem had been identified at the time. On Monday, 10/28 I followed up via text to the LC for an update and was informed that they checked with the Transmission technician and they had started to “tear down the transmission to find the fault.” On 10/30, I asked for another update and to inform the LC that I had a preplanned vacation to Big Bear, CA on 11/7/24 and hoped to have it back before then. On 10/31, the LC informed me that the Tech had “ordered a new transmission today and should be here by Tuesday [11/5/24].” On 11/5, I followed up via text to the LC and was informed that the new arrival date for the transmission would be 11/6 or 11/7. Because I did not have my Corsair and wanted to be cautious of the miles on the loaner, we took an alternate vehicle for the road trip. See PDF attached for additional details.
