I had no warning that the services would cease to function in October of this year. Lexus states that these systems will no longer function because telecommunications providers will no longer support 3G service. This is certainly a safety issue for me and for other drivers and I believe that Lexus should be required to modify the hardware/software in these vehicles to function in a 4G/5G environment. Lexus representatives state that Lexus has no plans to correct these safety issues. I am requesting that NHTSA review this matter as a highway safety issue.Read more

Oil leaked substantially while driving on the Highway. As we were slowing down on WB I-94 due to construction, our red oil light was on, and then flashing. The car was driven for about 1.5 miles from the initial lit to a safe location (local Honda dealership) where it was determined that the vehicle was no longer drivable. ... Honda service garage. Upon inspection, 4 quarts of oil were lost and Lexus service center later confirmed that the rubber oil cooler tubes were broken and had to be replaced by the metal ones. Both Lexus Service & Lexus Corp had confirmed that the defective parts for Lexus RX350 year models 2007 - 2011 were installed. They later issued a campaign to have them replaced with the metal tubes. The incident was quite a safety hazard to us (my wife and I) because had we maintained our normal highway speed, there could have been a catastrophic engine failure due to low or no oil. If this happened at night, we would have been stranded on the highway and in the worst case scenario, the engine would have blown up and could have caused fire. After filing a complaint with Lexus Corp and seeking reimbursement for the repairs, Lexus refused to accept the claim, saying that my car was out of warranty. They claimed that notices were sent out, but we never received such notices. The initial representative said the notice was sent out September 2014, but the case manager later said it was October 2015 (very inconsistent here). Meanwhile, I had another recall service done on April 4, 2016, which overlapped with their extended warranty campaign period (01.31.16 to 03.02.19) for these defective tubes, but we were never notified about this. The fact that Lexus did not issue a recall campaign for this is erroneous. Sudden catastrophic engine failures or potential failures is definitely a safety concern. This issue has been documented widely online and is prevalent within the Lexus community.Read more

Toyota did respond with notification related to the results of the inspections to include: "The seatbelts were found to be operational. The front drivers' and passengers' seatbelt ELR (Emergency Locking Retractor) were tested and found to be operational. The EDR readout recorded that the drivers' and passengers' front seat belts were buckled at the time of the incident, and the seat belt pretensioners were not commanded to deploy. The owners manual advises that the pretensioners help the seat belts to quickly restrain the occupants by retracting the seat belts when the vehicle is subjected to certain types of severe frontal or side collision or a vehicle rollover." The owners manual related to seat belts on page 28 also documents that "the pretensioners do not activate in the event of a minor frontal impact, a minor side impact or a rear impact." NTSB Safety Alert SA-005 July 2012 documents "What can you do to save lives and reduce injuries? Make sure seat belts are worn by everyone in your vehicle and talk to your state and local lawmakers and urge them to support NTSB recommendations for seatbelt use laws." The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the brake actuator was faulty and needed to be replaced. The actuator was replaced and the failure was corrected. 2008 LX570: This is my second time owning a Toyota/Lexus vehicle with the 3UR-FE/5.7L V8 and each has had the same issue. At 156,000 miles, noticed a nauseating smell of oil and coolant enter the cabin via the air vents. Noticed oily residue around front and sides of engine, no check engine lights. Took vehicle to Lexus dealer who reported that timing and valve covers were leaking oil and that the
... valley plate/heat exchanger was leaking coolant. The smell of oil and coolant entering the cabin caused me and my occupants to become nauseated and dizzy while traveling with the air on. Total estimated amount of repairs, $5,400. Was informed by Lexus service tech that the Toyota/Lexus sealant around timing cover and heat exchanger/valley plate were defective and that this would happen to all engines of this class (3UR-FE/5.7). Contacted Lexus Customer Care and was advised that due to vehicle being out of warranty, there was no concern to offer any incentive toward repair, regardless of the intoxication/inebriation that passed from the engine bay into the cabin. Toyota/Lexus refuses to issue a campaign or customer incentive program to resolve this issue. This is a very costly repair that can harm the lives of others via poisonous run-off that occurs when oil and antifreeze leak onto the engine while at time, causing fumes to pass from the engine bay to the cabin via the air vents. Another safety issue if this is left untreated would be the engine running completely out of oil and antifreeze, causing vehicle and occupants to become stranded. This is also a fire hazard with oil leaking onto a hot engine while at temp.Read more
