A few years ago, I had a close call at an intersection w a truck coming (upgrade) from the right— it was early morning & I thot the near-miss was an artifact of pre-dawn light. Now I believe that as we converged at the intersection, the truck remained obscured until I had entered the intersection to make my left turn. Recently a friend who works at a gas station named the car part (A-pillar) & identified it as a “blind spot.” ...brand new concepts (to me) regarding this car part. I've never heard of them before— not fm the sales rep during test drive, nor fm techs during dealership service, nor fm other drivers. Ask your sister if she knows where the A-pillar is. "A-pillar blind spot" is not in the User Manual. The Compass has electronic blind-spot-monitoring (BSM) for vehicles that linger on either side of the car. There is extensive guidance about side-BSM in the owner’s manual, in add'n to boxed warnings @ using the back-up camera. "A-pillar blind spot" is not mentioned or warned about. However, in looking at Compass-Owner discussion group comments, I find this is an issue for other Compass owners, at least since 2011. Jiffy Lube reported PLASTIC oil pan and plug broke when removing plug for draining. Manager at shop reported he had seen this before in another Nissan and he believes it is a common problem with the plastic oil pan. Internet search of forums describes similar problem and that replacements are the mid-$400s, just for parts, not labor. Sounds like a recall is needed.

I was traveling east bound on 161/16/37 near Raccoon Valley Golf Course in Granville OH. I was near MM 104. It was approximately 8:13PM and the road conditions were clear. I kept pumping on the breaks because I didn’t know if the ABS was working. Then I hit the guard rail on the right side of my car and after I hit the guard rail, that time when I pressed the breaks, I was finally able to stop. I am unsure what system malfunctioned. There were no lights or warning messages. I did have the vehicle at Lexus for routine maintenance a couple weeks prior. The sheriff came to the scene and filled report 23-31830. I also called Lexus the next day and filled a request for an inspection to be completed. The vehicle was manufactured within the time frame listed in the documentation from NHTSA but nonetheless Mercedes does not include this vehicle amongst the cars qualifying for replacing the fuel pump. Again they found nothing to explain the loss of drive power. The third time I was able to get off the highway at a nearby exit and, again, waited for 5-10 min before starting and resuming. When I saw the recall notice on 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid Recalls, I realized this must be the issue. I brought my car to Ed Voyles Honda in Marietta, GA near my job on August 21, 2023 to have it checked out. They said that this was not on the list of recalls, but if it happened again to bring it back to them to have it checked out. I do not want to wait for this to happen again as this is a safety issue and has obviously happened with other 2020 CR-V Hybrids such as mine. I drive 45 minutes on major highways to work daily and can never be sure when it will happen the next time if I will be able to manage to avoid a crash causing injury to me, occupants in my car, and other cars on the highway. This car was equipped with safety features that should have stopped it from driving as it continued over sharp, protruding rocks, went through cactus plants taller than me and over a cliff. The seats have seatbelt sensors, this car knows it is driving with no passengers or a driver. Thankfully my 97 year old, blind and deaf mother-in-law was not in the passenger seat, or my 10 month old grand baby was not in the back seat. This could have been a catastrophe. 11/2022 dash air bag warning light started flashing in 2014 Nissan Maxima. Dealership said air bag sensor (part #873009DH5B)was bad and seat needed to be replaced est cost~$1600. In January, I called dealership to schedule seat replacement and was told part was on back order with no timeline for availability. Called first site, seat was no longer available, called second site and purchased seat (~$1670)which was shipped here and installed by dealership for ~$300 on 22 February 2023. Air bag warning did not resolve with new seat, so spent ~$400 to install sensor (next step in the algorithm), still did not resolve warning. So, dealership tested a seat from one of their personal vehicles which did resolve the air bag warning. They determined the new seat that I had purchased was not functional. Since February, dealership has kept the 'new' seat and has been attempting to get it replaced under warranty as it is a new part that malfunctioned. I have had two case numbers with Nissan consumer affairs, made many calls, sent multiple emails detailing this with no response since January when they gave me the 3 in-stock locations. When I call to check on case #, reps say someone tried to call but couldn't leave message. They were able to reach me in January and I have no record of any calls nor issues receiving other calls/voicemail. I will not risk the safety of my family with a potential air bag malfunction in an accident, so have been unable to have a passenger in the front seat for over 6 months. Dealership is communicative and helpful and keeps trying to get the part but they continue to be told that it's not known when the part will be available. I understand supply chain issues and have been patient, but this is a severe safety concern. It's not reasonable for a consumer to be left with an inherently unsafe airbag activation system for over 6 months.Read more

... the air bag harnesses of both knee airbags, and potentially the ACSM module in the center console as well. As per this diagnosis, the failure was caused due to a short-circuit. If this issue was left unattended, it would have prevented the deployment of airbags in the event of a crash, resulting in the death of the driver or severe injuries. A manufacturing fault or other quality issues are clearly to blame for such short-circuits. I request NHTSA to investigate the issue and pursue a recall notice for such faulty driver restraint (harness in this case) control modules.Read more

... s the user of the vehicle and others around them at risk as key safety systems are compromised. This is in an area that is generally not easily accessible for an owner to clean. However, I was able to remove the camera and clean the glass (please see pictures) and normal function resumed immediately. This is not an operation a owner should attempt and there are warnings about camera re-calibration. I believe NHTSA should consider this a design defect that could be cured by a visit to a dealer (periodically) with their technicians performing a complementary cleaning of the interior camera glass to ensure the camera continues to function properly. About the car: This car has never been in an accident, non-smoker, always garaged (no sun/heat exposure) driven in the city with no dust or debris in the cabin (exceptionally clean inside and out) 33,500 miles at time of cleaning (photos attached). I believe this fog is due to off-gassing of cabin materials that occurs naturally as the vehicle ages.Read more
