When installed per specifications, the seat appears safe. It does not move more than an inch. However, if even a pound of pressure is applied towards the rear of the vehicle, the seat inverts. There is an insufficient fulcrum with the back of the seat. I have a 2017 GMC Terrain. This is exceptionally dangerous, because when pulling only left and right, the seat appears secure. I, for example
... , used the seat for years (a fact about which I am now aghast). I first alerted the manufacturer to this fact on March 17, 2024, and promptly sent a video. The company insisted is was user error and referred me to my local police. I alerted the company on May 20th, that the police had inspected, found the seat unsafe, and recommended it not be used in the rear-facing configuration. The manufacturer has not responded to my comments and continues to sell the item. Here is the police report from Fairfax County PD in Virginia: Hi "I have completed the log for your install. The reference number is [XXX]. In the install sheet are the following notations. “ Seat arrived installed rear-facing. Tight, lap belt. Set still rotated toward rear headrest. Occupant’s head (face) would have contacted the rear headrest in even moderate impact. Seat performance deemed to be unsatisfactory. Suspect manufacturer design flaw for this particular vehicle.” Additional comments. Seat was inspected by two qualified inspectors and reinstalled twice in rear-facing configuration. No seat damage noticed, and installation seemed to be appropriate. Nevertheless, the seat rotation toward the rear was uncontrolled. I’ve approximately the last 45 thousand miles, Lexus dealers have replaced the brake actuator and other components of the brake system on this vehicle at least 6 times due to noise issues. Lexus has stated that this is not a safety issue, I have an open ticket with Lexus, but yesterday I had to slam on the brakes and did not get nearly the response that should have come right away. There are no
... warning lights, as far as I can tell the traction control didn’t engage, and eventually the car suddenly started breaking much harder, but it was very delayed l, and disproportionate with any additional force applied. Lexus knows the brake system is an issue in this model to the point where they are covering the system for 10 years or 150,000 miles, but to say that it isn’t a safety issue seems short-sighted. This system works in conjunction with the radar sensors adaptive cruise control, and I’ve had. This car has also had a number of seeming electrical issues, with every door lock actuator replaced at least once, some of them more than once, and the infotainment system shuts down and reboots randomly or freezes.Read more
