IN MY 2000 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2, AS APPARENTLY IN MANY OTHERS, FROM TIME TO TIME, USUALLY AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES IN A ROUTINE STOP, AN ALARM CHIMES AND THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH ILLUMINATE SHOWING THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM IS NO LONGER WORKING AS WELL AS THE HILL DESCENT CONTROL AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN LAST WEEK FOR THEM TO FIX AN ISSUE, SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND I WAS INHALING COOLANT FUMES; THEY STATED THAT IT WAS FIXED, NO SOONER THAN 4 HOURS AFTER I PICKED THE CAR UP ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON, DID THE SAME CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GO ON AND I CURRENTLY AM DRIVING AROUND INHALING FUMES FROM COOLANT AGAIN. WHEN DO THESE ISSUES GET RESOLVED. IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR OF THE SAME ISSUES WITH A CAR, THAT THE SALES WOMAN'S WORDS TO MY HUSBAND WERE, THE FIRST VEHICLE CREATED BY LANDROVER IS STILL ON THE ROAD. IT WAS 11:30 PM, I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THERE WERE NO TOW COMPANIES OPEN. FINALLY SOMEONE CAME TO ASSIST ME AND PUSHED MY 7000LB TRUCK INTO AN EMPTY LOT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. WHEN THE HELP ARRIVED THEY PARKED ABOUT 3 FEET BEHIND MY TRUCK, NOT KNOWING THE TRUCK WAS NOT SAFE IN PARK MY TRUCK DRIFTED BACK AND HIT HIS NEW BMW TRUCK. BOTH TIMES THE DIFFERENTIAL WENT UP I HAD TO PAY FOR IT! OVER $2500 BOTH TIMES NOT TO MENTION THE COST TO TOW MY TRUCK BACK TO MD FROM OHIO $1600. I MUST SAY THAT WHEN MY TRUCK ARRIVED AT THE SHOP ALL OF THE MECHANICS KNEW ABOUT THE ISSUE WITH RR'S AND THEIR DIFFERENTIALS. THIS IS SO SAD, THERE IS NO WARNING IT JUST HAPPENS. I EXPECTED SO MUCH MORE FROM RANGE ROVER, THE NAME TO ME MEANS QUALITY BUT THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT LIVED UP TO ITS NAME. NOT TO MENTION THAT THE COMPANY HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AND THEY STILL WILL NOT TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS DEFECT. UPON SEEING THE LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT ILLUMINATE, I RESEARCHED ONLINE TO SEE WHAT MAY BE THE CAUSE. ... SERIES II VEHICLES MAY BE THE RESULT OF A MANUFACTURING ERROR. LOCATING DOWEL PINS MAY BE SLIGHTLY MISALIGNED PERMITTING ASSEMBLY OF THE OIL PUMP TO THE ENGINE BLOCK, BUT PLACING STRESS ON THE PUMP HOUSING WHICH CAN ULTIMATELY LEAD TO LEAKAGE OR FAILURE. RESOLUTION WHENEVER AN OIL PUMP FAILURE IS ENCOUNTERED ON VEHICLES WITHIN THE ABOVE VIN RANGE THE ONLY EFFECTIVE REPAIR CURRENTLY AVAILABLE IS REPLACEMENT OF THE COMPLETE ENGINE ASSEMBLY INCLUDING THE FRONT COVER/OIL PUMP MANUFACTURED TO THE LATEST TOLERANCES. I DELIVERED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP LAND ROVER OF THE GULFCOAST, MOBILE, AL)WHERE I WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT MY VEHICLE OIL PUMP FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE EXACT REASON AS STATED IN THE TECHNICAL ALERT AND THAT I SHOULD CONTACT THE NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS OF LAND ROVER TO SEEK A RESOLUTION TO THIS MATTER. THE TECHNICAL ALERT STATES THAT THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER'S DESIGN FLAW AND ALSO GIVES THE REDESIGNED REQUIRED REPLACEMENT PARTS (WHICH IS THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE ENGINE ASSEMBLY). LAND ROVER REFUSED TO MAKE GOOD IN THIS MATTER. I THEN CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE MANAGER THEN CONTACTED THE HEADQUARTERS ON MY BEHALF TO GET THE SAME REFUSAL. I WAS TRAVELING IN MY 2004 RANGE ROVER WITH 47K MILES ON I-H201 IN HAWAII AT 55 MPH WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED UP, THE WARNING SIGN CAME ON AND SAID TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND IT STOPPED ACCELERATING. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER FREELANDER. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT CREATED A HOLE THROUGH THE ENGINE. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE.
