FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY LUNGE FORWARD WHILE AT A STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE OVER THE LAST 3 WEEKS. AS THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD, IT WAS ON A COLLISION COURSE WITH THE CAR RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME IN THE CIRCLE, BUT HAVING HAD THE FIRST ACCIDENT, I INSTINCTIVELY PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD, AND REACHED OVER AND DISENGAGED THE TRANSMISSION FROM DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL, AVOIDING THE ACCIDENT. ... LETELY FAILED AT 103,000 MILES WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE BALTIMORE BELTWAY (695) AT 60 MPH. FREELANDER K-SERIES ENGINES HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO DROP THE CYLINDER LINERS INTO THE BLOCK. BECAUSE THE LINERS ARE STEEL AND THE BLOCK IS ALLOY, THE LINERS BEING HARDER, WORK THEIR WAY INTO THE BLOCK. WE PURCHASED A 2002 LANDROVER FREELANDER WITH 71,000. REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON CAR BY ORIGINAL OWNER AND WE CONTINUED IT. IN THE FIRST 2 YEAR OF OWNERSHIP WE HAD TO REPLACE THE WATERPUMP TWICE AT $ 1,100 AND $565. THERE WAS A RECALL ON FUEL FILTER AFTER I HAD IT REPLACED DUE TO BREAKING DOWN.
