At the end of May, about 10 days after getting my car serviced at the Land Rover Manhattan location middle of May, I headed to a short trip with my family. An hour into our trip, I could hear horrible noises coming from the engine, as if the gears were grinding with the engine shaking drastically. As I tried to pull to the side of the highway to safety, smoke started coming out of the front of my
... car. I got my family out of the car immediately and called roadside assistance. I went to inspect my car while we waited, and I noticed that there was oil all over the front (and rear) bumpers, as if all of the oil had spilt while I was driving. This was extremely strange since there was no light on my dashboard and my car had recently been serviced. It has been a month and a half since the incident and I have yet to get a clear idea of what exactly went wrong and I have yet to receive back my car.Read more

Suddenly, one morning on my way to work the steering became extremely heavy and the handling became very dull. The steering wheel still turned the wheels, but it required a vast amount of effort where the previous day the steering wheel could have been turned with one finger. There were no noises coming from the steering column, or warning lights associated with the defect. No smells associated w
... ith friction from parts rubbing together, either. Totally silent. I consulted the manual and no mention was made re: what was happening. It had advised to call an authorized dealer to have it inspected. A trip to the dealership confirmed that the steering gear assembly (a $5,000 part) had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealership did not make mention of this issue being common, or even having happened recently with a similar model/year. There is almost no power assistance coming through the steering, and I am worried about what could happen as a result. Perhaps the steering itself will become impossible? The dealer was uncertain as to whether it posed a greater issue or was just "an annoyance".Read more

As electrical harness issue as described in NHTSA Reference #10056417, the suspension fails and dash reports suspension fault, leading to a suspension that is extremely unstable and could cause vehicle to roll over even at low speeds less than 30 MPH. My safety and the safety of nearby drivers was at risk while driving in a construction area near my home. I had to make an emergency erratic stop,
... once the suspension started bucking wildly after hitting a minor bump on the street, almost damaging the referenced car as well as those cars around me that were skidding to a stop. Yes, the problem is well documented in the above NHTSA reference and technical bulletin (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2014/SB-10056417-1282.pdf) has been published that does not solve the safety issue once the damage has occurred. Not only has it been confirmed by multiple sources, but the manufacturer has published the technical bulletin with recommendations that don't solve the issue; rather, they put a band aid on it, that only helps if you find the issue prior to it occurring. Vehicle state has been well documented by dealer recommended land rover service center. Warning lamps, messages, appeared on dash immediately prior to the unresponsive suspension issue. All previous service and recalls were performed by dealership; however, no recommendation for performing the technical bulletin above was every mentioned which could have feasibly avoided the potentially life threating issue.Read more
