On several occasions the vehicle shifted by itself from D to N. Leaving you stuck until you shifted into P then back to D. This is scary and potentially dangerous. Dealer has only a service bulletin, so if you complain they can hopefully fix it. But, this is dangerous should have a recall.

Land Rover/Range Rover does not have remote start on the key fob, but instead proudly boasts of their InControl App. "InControl Remote provides information on your vehicle and enables you to interact with it remotely. Compatible with most AndroidTM and Apple iOS® smartphones, this service allows you to lock/unlock the doors, remotely preheat/precool the vehicle using the climate control function
... and remote engine start, or find your Land Rover faster by using the Beep and Flash feature." A quick look at the App reviews or an online google search of this product indicates this simply is not the case. The App is unreliable at best and unsafe at worst. It absolutely does not operate as marketed. The App is defective and Land Rover is well aware and has done nothing to correct this. I have been locked outside of my own Range Rover multiple times in various locations. Today, there was a winter gale warning of Real Feel 17 degrees. I started my car about five minutes before exiting. The App showed that my car started. When I was about one minute from my car, I opened the App to unlock my vehicle. It said it was unlocked. I physically saw the side mirrors on my car close and heard the doors lock as I was approaching. The App continued to show that my car was running and unlocked. I stood outside the car in the freezing weather (note that I could SEE my key fob inside the car) waiting for the App to refresh so I could unlock. I took a screenshot of the App indicting my car was unlocked and a video of me trying the handle on my car at this time. After approximately 5 minutes, I started walking back to the restaurant. The continued to try to use the App. I emailed [email protected]. Finally, it showed that I could lock my already locked car, so I locked it and unlocked it. I walked back out. It was not unlocked. I called Roadside Assistance for help. She was in the process of filing for someone to come unlock my car, when I tried the App again 10 min later. It unlocRead more

The issue has to do with the Navigation System. It is so bad, it is dangerous. In Napa, CA the system was telling me to turn the wrong way on a one way street. In Nevada, it nearly took us off a cliff in the mountains. I have advised Land Rover of this issue, but they couldn't care less. I'm not sure if Navigation Systems falls in the safety recall category, but in this case I think it should
... . Land Rover's position is I can pay for a maps update (over $500), but still no guarantee this will resolve the issue. I'll happily provide you with more details if it will help you determine the dangers or risks into which this system puts its drivers. Someone should really care enough to look into this. I've never had a car with such a horrible Nav system.Read more

My 2020 Defender has had three incidences of the windshield cracking due to the smallest pebble. The first two cracks, I had professionally sealed. The latest incident involved a pebble so small that I couldn't see it. In fact, the pebble was so tiny that a point of contact on the windshield can barely be observed. However, it caused the windshield to crack clear across the middle, impairing visib
... ility and creating an unsafe driving experience. This is, I believe, the seventh Land Rover windshield that I have had the misfortune to have crack on me over the years. One Range Rover windshield cracked while sitting in the driveway with no projectiles involved. Another cracked in cooler overnight weather. These windshields are clearly defective and Land Rover is aware of the problem. This is why the dealership offers a very pricey windshield package as an option when you purchase the vehicle. I have called Land Rover corporate again in this instance because I'm fed up with paying $1800 to repair a defective bit of glass, only to have another crack appear and be forced to repair or replace that as well. Land Rover Corporate said that a pebble constituted "outside damage" and the windshield would not be covered under warranty. However, a driver does purchase a car under the presumption that the glass would be safe if struck by a tiny object or if taken through a car wash--as occurred with my previous Range Rover. Taken together, I do request that this consumer safety board review this issue as I know for a fact that I am not the only one concerned about the safety and reliability of the Land Rover windshields. Regards, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).Read more

I recently had a failure, while driving, of the left rear toe link bolt on my 2013 Land Rover LR4. A few pictures of this fractured bolt (Land Rover Part # RYG501580G) are attached. The failure caused the left rear wheel to toe in about 10-20 degrees. Fortunately I was driving on a circular on-ramp to Interstate 15 in St. George, Utah. Had I gotten on the freeway and had this failure while cha
... nging lanes at 60 to 70 mph, I suspect the vehicle could have flipped and crashed. The bolt holds the Rear Suspension Toe Link, Part # LR019117, to the wheel hub. The fractured part of the bolt remains in the hub. From the pictures, it looks as thought the bolt had began to fracture some time ago (the darker, discolored areas on each side of the bolt). These fracture areas would be consistent with loads imposed from turning the vehicle. The final catastrophic failure occurred at one time, as can be seen by the “silver” area down the center of the bolt. This pattern is vertical with respect to the vehicle. This is a classic stress fracture and failure.Read more

The upper dash board of the LR4 is made out of I believe leather. But it's shrinking and distorting so badly that I worry about the passenger side airbag deploying properly. It could affect it potentially 2 ways, first, doesn't deploy because it cant, or it deploys incorrectly. Either could have devastating consequences to the front passenger. I have done research on this and Land Rover knows t

I have not been in an accident where this has been an issue, I'm concerned it will be an issue based on research. You are more than welcome to take a look and verify the issue. If need be, I can reach out to others that may have been impacted by this issue. As you can see in the images it's shrinking so badly that it's tearing the stitching out. Which then could put a bind on on the deployment of the airbag.Read more

I experienced three incidents attributable to a malfunction of the turbocharger integrated exhaust manifold. The first two occasions the vehicle suddenly and inexplicably lost power slowing to approximately 5 mph. Acceleration only made the engine rev up but did not increase power. No prior indications from the function of engine nor any warning indicators activated at the time the first two i
... ncidents occurred. I had only owned the vehicle for two to three months when the first incident occurred. Being my first experience with a vehicle equipped with paddles affixed to the steering wheel and not having any prior warnings I presumed I had inadvertently and incorrectly touched the paddles. The loss of power lasted only minutes but rendered the vehicle unable to maintain speed to safely maneuver through and move from travel lanes. The most recent occurrence happened while traveling at highway speed on an interstate. This time the vehicle again immediately lost power and my speed abruptly dropped to about 30 mph and for the first time illuminated the check engine light. Fortunately, traffic was light and I was within 1 mile of the next exit. I was able to maneuver to the shoulder and eventually exited the highway. The vehicle recovered function and I travelled approximately 10 miles back to a Land Rover Dealership. Diagnostic tests pulled code DTC P0299 and recommended that the turbocharger be replaced. There is currently a class action lawsuit pending against Land Rover vehicles for this problem which has been reported to be a common occurrence in the 2012-2017 Evoque, 2015-2017 Discovery Sport, and 2013-2015 LR2. In 2020 4 complaints were filed with NHTSA (11342410, 11342277, 11375748, and 11375786) regarding turbocharger failure and sudden loss of power. My vehicle has been parked at a dealership since July 8, 2021 because the unforeseeable loss of power renders the vehicle unreliable and at risk of accident and injury.Read more

My 2012 LR4 engine completely seized on the highway in July 2022 while I was traveling at 75mph. I was incredibly lucky to be in the right hand lane (after passing 2 large trucks) when I heard and felt the extremely abrupt "clunk" come from the engine. The red engine light came on and my LR4 no longer worked. I had to veer off the highway and coast onto the grass. Had I been in the left hand lane
... still when this happened, the outcome for me and multiple others on the highway that day would not have been good. My Land Rover dealer (where my car was towed back to) confirmed engine failure. They found a torn oil filter and lots of metal shavings in the filter. They also found a damaged piston with indents and grooves on the piston in cylinder 3 and recommended a new engine. In July 2022 (a week prior to the engine failure) I had my car serviced at the Land Rover dealer. After service I noticed a small leak, a clicking noise in my engine at 30-35mph and a feeling of reduced acceleration. I returned to the dealer 4 days after my service visit to check on these 3 things. I was told I had a very small rack in pinion steering leak and that it'd be okay to drive but to bring the car back when I returned from my trip. That is when my engine seized on the highway. I now know that there is a settled lawsuit on timing chain and tensioner issues with the 2012 LR4 (and other vehicles) and that Jaguar Land Rover USA issued a Technical Service Bulletin to dealers in 2015 stating that if a customer had concern of a clicking noise coming from the engine to follow timing chain/tensioners steps. I don't know why my engine concerns weren't handled more seriously. I have pictures of the engine parts and the engine parts available for inspection upon request. HOW IS THIS NOT A RECALL ISSUE? How is this a known issue and yet consumers aren't protected? I was lucky that day. It's important to me that the safety of others driving these vehicles be both protected and prioritized.Read more
